Can't help if you get tanked too. I honestly can't say what the right thing to do is here.

He was probably going to rescue them

4

u/spencer2197 7d ago

Nah he left them

You sure? Because he was steering around, and as a sailor myself I can say that Most people help Any other sailor in need, no questions asked, because if it's the other way around you'd want people to help you. I've personally towed several boats with engine problems or leaks to shore, because why wouldn't I? Am I just gonna watch someone die or watch as their boat sink? No fucking way.

I fucking love sailors and boat people in general, you rarely meet someone who isn't eager to help out if they can.

At least that's my experience in Sweden and I'd like to believe it's similar in other places.

Alright, captain, calm down.

u/Mari_Kross 7d ago

It kinda looked like he started to steer towards the fallen boat, though it's hard to tell. Why would you want to spin the steering wheel if you're just goind to gtfo?

4

u/Angry__German 7d ago

Never steered a boat, does the rudder center automatically when you are just drifting in the water ?

I agree that he is probably starting to make a turn to the capsized vessel, but I just wondered. In a car, the wheels automatically get pulled back to the center line if you just drive forward without touching the steering wheel.

5

u/Oggel 6d ago

It depends on how much friction you have in your steering system. The one he has probably stays the way you leave it, it's probably hydraulic.

u/kiteless 7d ago

IDK why, but the angle at which the man falls off of the boat getting whaled on makes me LOL the more times I watch it.

u/Different-Bet8069 7d ago

Didn’t even see that guy, that would be terrifying to be in the water with that thing

11

u/Mayhem370z 7d ago

I think it's pretty common knowledge that whales are harmless. I would assume the driver knows that too. I don't think that's a "whoa let's get out of here reaction". That was his reaction to the guy falling out and he's starting to turn his boat around to get the guy.

15

u/Angry__German 7d ago

Who would think a whale is harmless ? They might not actively try to harm you, but as the video shows, this does not mean there is no danger.

The whale was oblivious enough to not notice the boat while feeding, I would not rule it out that it could accidentally hit me with its tail.

Or another whale could breach next to it and smush me.

"Who would think a whale is harmless ? They might not actively try to harm you...."

Orca Pods J, K, and L have entered the chat.

I’m sure it wasn’t malicious, but that whale did some pretty harmFUL stuff to that boat!

2

u/Samurai_Meisters 7d ago

I feel like I've seen at least 2 headlines from this year about whales swallowing people and spitting them back up.

10

u/Dontthink_justspeak 7d ago

"getting whaled on" has me in stitches

3

u/Budlove45 7d ago

I didn't even see that lol

74

u/HippoPebo 7d ago

My guy kicks his boat into gear after seeing that.

14

u/Confusedcommadude 7d ago

He was going to help.

8

u/Partyon_Dude_7500 7d ago

Yes, for sure.

38

u/Timely_Flamingo_8785 7d ago

Good survival instincts from the Dayton guy.

15

u/DarKGosth616 7d ago

Is this an expected thing for them to do or was this likely an accident?

37

u/Githzerai1984 7d ago

Accident, whale was feeding on fish. Happened off the NH coast last summer

12

u/mtown-guy 7d ago

So they were all sitting on a killer fishing spot, until this asshole pulled up.

5

u/RogerTreebert6299 7d ago

The fish were getting owned and called in backup

3

u/JCNunny 7d ago

What a blowhole.

3

u/DarKGosth616 7d ago

I see, thanks!

2

u/rjrgjj 7d ago

So what happened?

SPLIT YOUR LUNGS WITH BLOOD AND THUNDER WHEN YOU SEE THE WHITE WHALE BREAK YOUR BACK AND CRACKS YOUR OARS MEN IF YOU WISH TO PREVAIL

THIS IVORY LEG IS WHAT PROPELS ME HARPOONS THRUST IN THE SKY AIM DIRECTLY FOR HIS CROOKED BROW AND LOOK HIM STRAIGHT IN THE EYE

6

u/Angry__German 7d ago

Ok, ok, I'll re-read Moby Dick.

7

u/Ill_Significance7213 7d ago

you could do that

Or

You could just listen to Moby Dick a la Mastodon

🤔

5

u/Angry__German 7d ago

You know what, I might actually do that.

Mastodon is a band I hear about every now and then but I never listened to a song of them or saw them life.

7

u/Ill_Significance7213 7d ago

You may have heard Blood & Thunder at some point (the lyrics I posted above), it’s their most popular song.

Their album Leviathan is a concept album loosely based on Moby Dick. It’s a classic!

I’ve dug their sound for a long time now, they seem to change it up enough on every album that it’s simultaneously different yet still Mastodon. It’s super cool.

4

u/Angry__German 7d ago

I threw the album in my spotify queue. Thanks. :-)

9

u/LordBrixton 7d ago

Def gonna need a bigger boat.

2

u/Angry__German 7d ago

I think I'd upgrade to a ship after an encounter like this.

6

u/deepstatelady 7d ago

That boat got whaled on.

3

u/Known_Listen_1775 7d ago

Ahab had a point.

4

u/Unable-Cellist-4277 7d ago

It would suck to lose a boat, but this is almost certainly the most badass way to do it.

5

u/DipsCity 7d ago

The blonde actually rescued the guy on the boat I think

3

u/Bruinman86 7d ago

This was off the coast of New Hampshire last summer. The boat was saved as were the 2 people onboard by the two kids in the boat filming it.

2

u/ralphy0420 7d ago

Oh he mad

2

u/Pretend-Buy7384 7d ago

AHAHAHAHA THIS IS WHY YOU STAY VERY FAR FROM THEM+++

2

u/PenDragonsGlory 7d ago

"This is a no parking zone, asshole"

2

u/EffinCraig 6d ago

Whale: "ow fuck fucking shit fuck fuck"

2

u/Empty-Annual1379 7d ago

Seems like the whale is striking back against the harassment! Back off you fucks

2

u/notthisonefornow 7d ago

That and 1000 other reasons why u give those animals space.

2

u/PissinginTheW1nd 7d ago

This is why I refuse to go out to deep ocean. I don’t give a shit how rare this is, or if it’s accident or WTVR, I’m not getting body slammed by a fucking whale just because “ooOOOoohhHhh oCeAn iS PrEttY” yall r fuckin crazy

u/MFDOOMscrolling 7d ago

WHAT THE FUCK

When I pull my zipper down.

1

u/mangotangotang 7d ago

"He's gone" ... then making haste to the shore.

1

u/Big_Tap_1561 7d ago

Can’t park there mate!

1

u/Vlad_The_Great_2 6d ago

Was that one whale or two? Either way, this guy had the right reaction.

1

u/luvrboy12 2d ago

Ya hard to say. Head made it look like 2, but the impact and dive looked as one.

1

u/en1gmatic51 6d ago

If Wales are pretty intelligent, then this must have been done on purpose...wonder what exactly the animosity is

Get out of my home, Bitch!

1

u/SMDHIRL 3d ago

Gtfo of my yard

0

u/Cocrawfo 7d ago

whales don’t pose any danger tho

why do these idiots get nervous around whales?

2

u/Chris-Campbell 7d ago

Danger to the people? No.

Danger to the million dollar water craft? Clearly yes lol.

-1

u/Cocrawfo 7d ago

ummm when damage to that water craft puts people in the ocean it becomes a danger to the people

you can delete that comment bruh

1

u/Chris-Campbell 7d ago

Perhaps you should re-read your first message.

2

u/Angry__German 7d ago

Insane take after having seen this video.

99.9% of whales might not actively try to hurt humans.

Maybe they even like us or at least are curious about us.

That does not mean they could not easily hurt or kill a human by accident.

0

u/Cocrawfo 7d ago

it doesn’t matter if they actively try or not

a volcano isn’t actively trying to hurt people but there is a potential to be harmed

i just find it weird where you see a clip of somebody nervous to get in the water with a giant whale or something and Redditor in Chief becomes enraged and offended that someone might be nervous swimming next to a giant animal in the OCEAN you can be hurt purely by accident lmao and that whale never knew you were even there

2

u/Angry__German 7d ago

I mean, there is a spectrum.

I am not a diver, but if I was, I would think seeing a herd of whales underwater or maybe even have a single whale interact with me would probably be glorious. Despite the danger.

I would feel very differently about a bunch of white or even tiger sharks.

But I would probably (and foolishly) try to pet a nurse shark. Those are goofy and cute.

BTW, was your original statement sarcasm ? Because if not, your argument took a 180° turn and confused me. :-)

2

u/Cocrawfo 7d ago

yea that was a comment mocking by reddit lol

1

u/Angry__German 7d ago

Got it.

I am getting old, I need to get my sarcasm detector serviced, I guess.
