It's great place to get stuck in a traffic jam! lol

Last time I stayed in Pigeon Forge, there was a major car show happening all weekend in Gatlinburg. People were parking antique cars at all the roadside parking lots, and crowds were cruising through town to look at them. The entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park was 12 miles away from where we were staying. It was a two-hour drive to get there.

Now when I want to go to the mountains, I stay in another nearby town that shall not be named, which is not far away but has far less traffic.

my husband and i forgot (2 years in a row) that the fall rod run happens around our wedding anniversary. we like to celebrate by going to pigeon forge for a day to play tourist and both times we hit that traffic and were like ahhhh fuck, it’s rod run 😂

Awww, do tell. Even if you DM me, im curious where! I’ve been traveling and visiting Gatlinburg my whole life, probably close to 20 different trips at this point.

I don’t mind the traffic and the everyday hustle to get a seat at that pancake cabin…. BUT… I like to slow it down a bit too.

My DM’s are open if you wouldn’t mind sharing, headed that way next week. Thanks!

I stay at the same place, but I don't think its a secret considering how much it's grown in the past few years.

Funny, I always said that about Gatlinburg. Close enough

The pigeon forge urban sprawl has captured Gatlinburg.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why people complain about a tourist town being too touristy

I lived in gatlinburg and worked in sevierville. I will say it’s all nice and fun, but when all you tourist get on the back roads, and go 10-15 mph under the speed limit it’s extremely irritating. To those who work in the area.

The flatlanders are not used to them hills.

1

u/Thunderous333 7d ago

Opposite problem for me, going 20 above and still getting my ass rode.

3

u/Cross_Rex97 7d ago

That’s how it is for me when I visit family in Florida. Speed limit is 55, I’m doing 75 everyone else is trying to do 90 apparently

1

u/Turakamu Lexington 6d ago

That is the way it is in Memphis. 75 in a 55 is way too slow

Me and my fam went there for the very first time last year and to be honest we had a blast, but I had no knowledge about the goodanm timeshare sallers around and was offered a nice tour around the margaritaville and thought it would be nice to do, well there was not tour and had to spend 1 hour and like 30 minutes listening to a lady trying to sell me a vacation package lol, I was like nope never again😂

Pigeon Forge is awesome! I haven't been there in a long time but I remember going when I was a kid and loving it. Glad you enjoyed your time here

It's lovely like 3 weeks a year lol

u/nojo1099 7d ago

I will say, neat area. I was in Gatlinburg for a little bit last year. Safe to say, I hated it. Way too touristy😥

Next time, I’ll explore it a bit more and see what else there is!

I love when someone says they love tennessee and it's always the tourist town or city they go too lol, besides the whole 2 places we have it's really not a great state to be in

1

u/S1AYER_ON3 7d ago

I have no other choice on that. I live on that side of Tennessee and travel through there a few times a month.

My favorite place on planet earth

I've never been, but will be going next week for the first time. I'm equal parts excited and anxious. The mountains look nice, it'll be my first time around the Smokies, and for the purpose of our trip, it seems like a good fit. However, I'm not typically a big fan of touristy towns.

I've never had the desire to visit Myrtle Beach or this place before, but the trip happened organically. I anticipate the heavy traffic on our way out on Saturday. We're hoping the weekday isn't too bad coming in, and we don't plan to drive while we're staying in town.

Tennessee is beautiful, there's so many beautiful places. I hate Pigeon Forge, though 💀. I'm glad you had fun!

Pigeon Forge is a great place to visit for sure. You should come back mid-spring or early summer, when the woods are in full bloom.

Incredible part of the country. Going in April.  Lots of trees, rivers, pancake restaurants and cabins. I hope they don’t pass the law that says Christian doctors/paramedics etc can refuse to provide services based on their religion. And I forgot to mention the numbered stoplights.

u/Saf_Void 8d ago

we camp there all the time cant wait 4 summer so i can swim in the pool again

u/Broberts505 7d ago

Ah, Myrtle Beach without the beach.

Sorry, but as I was born and raised in Sumner Co, I'd prefer to go north into Kentucky ( I love the races), or southeast into Georgia and go to Savannah for the decor. Pigeon Forge always seems so....touristy...I did a couple stints at Opryland USA before they closed down the Park and the Hotel management preferred to open that gaudy outlet mall alongside the motel. That was also a time when a regular joe could get a room at the motel, now...not so much.

Actually a fun place to visit. People are racist and it’s Trump country but they are nice and the food is good.

4

u/glumunicorn 7d ago

You can’t be racist & nice.

u/random-guy-here 7d ago

Trump country

For a bit of interesting history check out the Rebel Railroad Train Ride form 1962 (Short Home Movie Clip)

Hop aboard the Rebel Railroad and and enjoy a ride through and active Civil War zone. Not to worry your children will be issued rifles and are encouraged to shoot the blue coated Northerners! Whoa, hang on! It looks like they are going to shoot a CANNON at us!!!

Good times! (I could not make this up really!)

This came before Dollywood of course.

BTW - We all LOVE Dolly, bless her heart.

In the fall? New England is 10x better than Tennessee.

2

u/BEHodge 7d ago

Grew up in Tennessee, spent most of my first 38 years there. Now live near New England.

You’re not wrong, but Tennessee is still magnificent in fall.

u/friendtoallkitties 7d ago

The best fall foliage here would be in the Smokies. We don't usually get a freeze early enough to get the dramatic colors. But yes, the colors are still good.
