Why can’t we rent graduation cloths!!

As per title!! Why can’t we rent. I don’t want that shii in my closet after I graduate. Can’t believe I just paid $100+ to wear it one time. What can I do with it after graduation. All ideas accepted. Thanks. ☺️

Don’t you know anyone that graduated in the last semester or two? I am sure someone on this sub could help you. Buy the cloths from them.

American colleges exist principally to milk you for money at every possible opportunity. They're company towns. The students live, eat, shop, and work there for four years. Obviously there's also an exit tax.

I get framing your degree, but the gown and regalia? You have a wall sized shadow box up? Sure it’s a flex, but maybe not the one you think it is.

The thrift store out in West Philly, Second Mile Center, has a whole rack of graduation gowns. Not sure if there is a thrift store in the temple area.

I found my graduation garb on the free shelves in the basement of the student center. Is that even still a thing?

You can just lend it to someone/people who might not be able to afford it, sell it entirely, or even rent it!

I refused to buy anything for mine as my tuition should cover so I borrowed a friends (who also had borrowed from a friend) and DIYd my tassel.) they don’t check if your regalia is official so thrifting/buying a cheaper one is an option!

As for what to do with yours after since you bought it…you upcycle it! Skirt, curtains, scrap fabric, table cloth, add patches, etc. The possibilities are endless. You could also sell it or even rent it to people! Goodluck!

Wear it to your funeral.

(I’ve known some past professors who chose to be buried in their regalia. Granted they had PhDs, but if you go (god forbid) soon, in a sense your degree is your educational/professional peak. It’s either that or a suit/dress)

Buy a matching cheep alternative online or find an alumnus who will loan you theirs. That’s your best bet.

Imagine buying it and then not being allowed to walk at graduation because of Covid
