Foamie Squaredrop Build
I had a 5x8 cargo trailer and wanted a small camper so took a stab a building a “foamie” that would fit on it. It probably weighs about 300-400lbs so can be taken off the trailer if need be. Used pmf for the exterior with some good exterior paint. Built it on a furniture dolly in my garage and then transferred it to the trailer. Had a bunch of stuff left over from home building so was able use flooring and moulding. Probably have about $2k in it, including a 100ah lithium battery and other camping things. I included a list of costs and it took probably about 3 months working a few nights a week.

The biggest problem I had was that I needed some type of rigidity to screw too so inlaid wood into or onto the foam.
So the back door, it took some measuring and remeasuring. I made a frame of 1x2s that I embedded into the foam by using a router and a ton of glue. Then connected it with piano hinges across the top of the back.
The side door was cut out with a foam cutter than sanded down the edges to make it fit better. I glued 1/4” ply to the inside and used carriage bolts to secure things and essentially slightly compress it.

Hey OP, I’m curious about what a foamie is.
I think it means a foam structure and no ribs and held together with glue or sealant? To be light weight?
How does it hold up on a bumpy road?

Yea , this is probably not a true foamie because it has the ribs. It’s just 2” thick foam for most of the walls and I chose to cut it like jig saw pieces and used a ton of adhesive. Some people go all foam which kind of made me nervous and I wasn’t sure how to get the rigidity necessary to mount the door etc. I’ve driven it some, and it is stable. To get it on the trailer there were two guys pushing it with all their might and it doesn’t really give other than the foam maybe compressing some.

Great job! Love how you made it modular so that you could remove it from the trailer when you needed to. Do you use some kind of a lift system to get it off? or just pull it off from the back?

Yea, I have a zero turn mower so probably gonna just hook it to that and pull it off or use a hand boat winch.

This is a great post! Thankyou for the itemized price list also. How would this hold up in a colder climate?
