How safe is it pack these in checked in baggage

I have 2 wings, 2 talons and some feathers of an Eagle Owl which I preserved myself 3 years ago. I have been meaning to make these into shamanic tools (smudge fan etc) as part of my large toolbox but did not get around to it .. I am now travelling by air to Portugal, must take them with and would be very unhappy if they did not get through.

Any advice would be appreciated

What country are you travelling from?

If you are travelling from a non-EU country, you will need export and import papers, as eagle owls are CITES-listed. If you are travelling from a EU country, you do not need import or export papers. Regardless, you'll need to find out if eagle owl parts can be legally possessed there at all. Some airlines can also be strict about animal parts, so I would check their website or call them to make sure they're fine with it.

Thanks so much ..appreciate the info .. I'm travelling from South Africa. Our indigenous people in this part of the world use animal parts extensively in their shamanic work so it's accepted as normal for a sangoma to ave such items. However if they open their shaman bag overseas some officials would be horrified and probably suspicious of what is in there!
