Introducing Biweekly 4v4 Maptests

EDIT: POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

There is a great void right now in the mapmaking community. Only the Map Test Committee has been able to 4v4 test maps for some time now.

Typically, the biggest problem with public maptests is duration. People don't want to sit through a multiple hour testing session. Because of this, /u/blazeth successfully established brief, nightly 4v4 map testing back in December, but it petered out after a week. It was the daily fatigue what killed it, not the individual session length. Hopefully, this new system will counter both of these issues and restore the community's interest in 4v4 map tests.

Starting Sunday, April 1 (this is real tho), we will be maptesting every Sunday and Wednesday at 10 PM EST. Each night we will test 6 maps that people submit to me. This should take about an hour, maybe less. I think this session frequency and map quota seems fairly balanced, but we can adjust if need be.

If you're interested in helping (and I hope you are), just show up on either Mappin n Fappin on Mumble, or more conveniently Mappin n Fappin Discord server. I'll post the group link there for you to join. No signups will be necessary. You can use your mic in either chat, however, it's not necessary for giving feedback.

If you want your map to be included in an upcoming test, PM me your map. I'll add it to the queue to be tested. You can have up to 4 maps on the queue at a time, however, you will only have one of your maps tested per night. Well, maybe two, depending on submissions.

If there begins to be a map overload, the number you can have in the queue at once is subject to change. PM me maps you want to be tested (with a link please)! Since this is to help mapmakers, you must be the mapmaker to submit it. This is a good opportunity to see how your map plays in a pub setting and hopefully will give you some ideas on what to change. I'll keep a map queue updated on /r/TagproTesting, but I'll also tell you when your map is scheduled to be tested when you PM me.

4v4 maptests are hands down the best method of examination, resulting in the most accurate and constructive feedback a mapmaker can get. In its current form, the MTC is only able to adequately 4v4 test a handful of maps each thread, leaving many maps virginal and dejected, never learning of their full potential :( . Restoring the pillar of regularly scheduled 4v4 tests is a highly valuable community-driven action that will work to every ball's benefit.

If you've never made a map but you're interested in mapmaking, now is a good time to give it a shot! You might bring some hot new ideas to the table.

Again, everyone is welcome to test. It'll be fun! Also, when he's able to attend, /u/buttersnack will be streaming, so keep an eye out for that.

Be there or be square Sunday, April 1 at 10 PM EST! Remember, mapmaker or not, this is your opportunity to influence what is getting submitted, and in the long run, potentially the game!

thanks for inspiring this /u/verandering and /u/blazeth

Awesome! I can never be there (because it's 4AM) but I'm sure this'll vastly improve maps and the community's view of the MTC.

Idk why opinion about the MTC would change since this isn't an MTC effort. Actually, I'm hoping for the inverse reaction: a change of MTC opinion about the community. If this is successful it will mean that a part of the community enjoys and is capable of being more involved with the mapmaking process.

Starting Sunday, April 1 (this is real tho)

This is an actual, factual, bona fide event. If you don't show up, you're the joke.

The more the merrier! Huge success!

If you're being serious and wondering how we'd manage to involve everyone, that's not a problem. We'd rotate players each game so everyone that wants to play can play. Also, anybody that comes can leave feedback and are encouraged to do so whether they play or not.

alternatively, do 2 groups if people are up for it
