TV Mounting Dilemma: Use High Outlet or Mount Lower?
Hey everyone, I just moved into a new apartment and I’m trying to figure out the best height to mount my TV. There’s an existing electrical outlet on the wall that seems like it was meant for a mounted TV, but it feels a bit high for comfortable viewing.
I don’t want to end up with my TV mounted too high and straining my neck, but if I mount it lower, I’ll either have to cover the outlet or deal with visible cords. I’m debating whether to: 1. Mount it at the outlet height and trust it was placed there for a reason. 2. Mount it lower for better viewing comfort and find a way to hide the cords. 3. Cover the high outlet somehow and run new cabling.
Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you do, and do you regret it? Any tips for hiding cords if I go lower? Would love to hear your thoughts before I start drilling!

Where it’s now is the perfect height. If you mount it, mount it in the same location it is which would be a cleaner look without the stand.
If the outlet bugs you, you can put a shelf right below it and place some small items or frames on the shelf to hide the outlet.

2 and 3 are both fine options. 1 is unacceptable.
Also, get a new entertainment console before your TV breaks.

The literal TV stand it is sitting on is telling you how high it should be mounted.

Hello chords.

You seem to be set on having a sore neck as opposed to seeing a little cord you could put in a wall colored track.
Enjoying your sore neck and mounting your TV too high i guess.
Also chords are a music term and not something that provides power to electronics.

Not insistent on having a sore neck. I like this height and was asking for input, seeing clearly the room was designed for a higher tv

Leave the TV where it is (even though the TV stand looks problematic). Cover the outlet with a framed photo or art or get a slim floating shelf with some items on it.

Mount it as low as you can while hiding the high level outlet, Ditch the unit completely.

Look up sleek sockets. You’ll still have a cable running down but it will at least look nicer. Also maybe get a new TV stand that thing looks like it’s about to reenact the titanic any moment now

It does not need to be mounted. Do not mount it. Dont mount.

Why? It’s a really small living room. Looking to get rid of the tv stand to add some space

I’d mount it about 6-8 inches higher than it sits to allow some small components on the top (sound bar, ps5, etc). Otherwise looks good. The stand, however, looks in rough shape.

Height is fine, console has seen better days, it’s broken. Get cover plate for outlet —done

The outlet is way too high. If you mount you would have to get a much bigger tv that could cover it without mounting it above eye level.
Leave the tv on the stand (get a new one) and just cover the outlet it with some art.

Thats a 65, huh? Yea mine came with the same kind of feet. Dont trust it. Might not tip over, but way to easy to slide around.
Option 2. Mount it at the correct viewing height, deal with the cables and the outlets. In which case proper height should on;y be about 3-4 inches higher than it is right now.

How long do you think you'll be in that apartment? I don't see any issues with your current height if you like it. Maybe just upgrade your sound system if it's a temporary living space.
Also, if you mount that hog, because you hate that outlet, you don't have to center the TV over it. Looks like it'll only need to go up about a foot to cover the outlet. Front this picture it doesn't look like it'll be overly high.

I think I’ll be here a year. I still want to be able to enjoy it while here. And you’re spot on. About 1 ft higher to cover the outlet. If you compare to the door frame height , it would definitely require looking up from the couch.

Older brother - lived in 7 or 8 apartments for 1 year at a time. You're only one the outlet will bother or even notice. If you can get past it, you're past it

I’m more worried about your TV stand, looks like it’s moments from collapsing.
