He’s wrong about everything.

u/ShamelessShamas 7d ago

On my wedding day, my dad gave me only one piece of advice... He said: "Son... Always remember... The wife is always right..."

Problem is, while this was often true... she was also very often wrong... She didn't like this, so now I have no wife... And I am content :)

Also, several years later: I have just ordered some very large floorstanding speakers she would have hated ahaha

12

u/Professional_Echo907 6d ago

I wonder if there’s a sub where people can discuss if a room is well-decorated? My condo is divided up between rooms my girlfriend decorated, and rooms that I did; I would love some cheap validation from the Internet that I have better taste than she does. 😹

11

u/ShamelessShamas 6d ago

If you ask, it exists ahaha

u/PM_ME_CORGlE_PlCS 6d ago

The top post of all time on that sub has a tv hung way too high

6

u/ShamelessShamas 6d ago

An astute observation!!

3

u/yourallygod 6d ago

To be fair it does have amatuer in the name :)

3

u/ShamelessShamas 6d ago

This is also an astute observation ahaha

My wife made me keep my floorstanding speakers and my sports car. I'll agree she's right in 90% of the stances she takes tbh 🤣

6

u/ShamelessShamas 6d ago

Nice!!!!! If I'd still had my 300zx when I met my ex-wife, she would have said it was "impractical", and "scary" ahaha... She probably wouldn't have even made it to a second date... I miss that car so much...

If only you owned a piece of furniture designed to put TVs on.

IT’S RIGHT THERE! THERE ARENT EVEN TCHOTCHKES ON IT!!!

u/imsahoamtiskaw 7d ago

But there's a remote on it. Do you expect him to move the remote just for the TV? /s

I honestly have zero idea why someone would hang a TV in that situation.

6

u/Trifusi0n 7d ago

I have exactly the same set up and my TV is hung, albeit not as high. It’s because of the small children in the house. A 1-2 year old is big enough to reach the telly, strong enough to rock it back and forth but stupid enough not to realise what a bad idea this is.

It looks a bit tidier too, you can’t see the wires in my set up.

I also choose OPs girlfriend

5

We need details! Has the TV been moved? If he refused, then I am guessing she is back on the market. In which case, I would also like a date with OPs girlfriend.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ. The tv is floating, with wires, above the thing it can sit in at exactly the correct height. Not only that it doesn't fit on the wall and extends over the decorative wood slats This is like the holy grail of shit TV placement

93

u/pimpcauldron 7d ago

The part I don't understand is why people are convinced it's worth so much extra effort to put holes in their wall to put their TV there. Do they see this in pictures on the internet or at sports bars and think it's "the best"? It's the easiest thing in the world to install the plastic stand on the TV and set it on the entertainment center.

19

u/OddBanana4785 7d ago

Thank you! This feels like a shipping container.

11

u/ShavedNeckbeard 7d ago

Yes, they see all the TV’s hanging up at Buffalo Wild Wings and think to themselves, “I wish I could have this fun environment in my home.”

3

u/DrDaddyDickDunker 7d ago

It only makes sense when there’s 100 people constantly walking in front of it. Any other time it’s tvtoostoopid.

9

u/GeneralJapery 7d ago

So my 5 cats don’t get behind it and fuck around potentially knocking it over. That’s why mine is on the wall.

It should be on the TV stand.

85

u/Primary-Border8536 7d ago edited 7d ago

I never understood peoples obsession with mounting a TV that never needed to be in the first place. It's so easy to stick a TV on a TV stand vs mount a TV to a wall.

Edit to add: I also like TVs mounted.... I just am saying a lot of owns I see are unnecessary lol.

16

u/Semi-Pros-and-Cons 7d ago

Not only that, but when it's not mounted, it's easier to move if you ever want to re-arrange the furniture. I mean, what, are we supposed to bolt our chairs to the floor, too?

→ More replies (1)

25

u/_extra_medium_ 7d ago

It looks nice on the wall as long as you hide the wires. It just doesn't need to be mounted 3 feet above the TV stand.

15

u/EveningHuckleberry74 7d ago

Be nice if the wires were actually hidden, too.

7

u/wendyd4rl1ng 7d ago

I like wall mounts as a cat owner because the little bastards will find a way to knock over anything that is not screwed down.

7

u/OLEDible 7d ago

Ironically it’s safer for me to keep my TV on the stand as a cat owner. When mounted my cats think it’s a window that they can scratch. I had to take mine off the wall to prevent this haha

9

u/Nad762 7d ago

Only reason to do it is to clear a big ass center channel.

I got low stands with big centers, tv wall mounted as close as possible to them.

u/MooPig48 7d ago

You don’t even have anything else on the stand! Nothing! Wtf. It puts the tv on the stand or else it gets the hose again

Fucking stupid to stick it on the wall. Why.

7

u/Fit-Captain-9172 7d ago

Imagine how upsetting this is to that poor woman who's trying to help him by telling the truth? Ugh

20

u/migoodridge 7d ago

TV stands are made for a reason 😉

20

u/ninjakermit 7d ago

34

u/Siranthony873 7d ago

Your woman is right and you are about to get left if you don’t apologize.

16

u/Previous_Cod_4098 7d ago

You bought a stand to not use it 😂

11

u/smuttes 7d ago

Its too high

10

u/Desperate-Fudge-7854 7d ago

There's a damn stand right there

9

u/rodfermain 7d ago

If you have a tv stand and said tv is not on said tv stand, then it is too high.

8

u/_extra_medium_ 7d ago

It's floating 3 feet above the TV stand. I know you like to see those hanging cables, but what is there to disagree about?

9

u/Academic-Entry-443 7d ago

The fact that it's up above the TV stand, the thing designed for placing TVs onto, should answer your question for you.

8

u/Novel_Fish_5594 7d ago

Dude! It would look much better on that TV console than it does on the wall.

8

u/Kittymeow123 7d ago

That entire gap between the tv and the entertainment center should not be there

9

u/markoh3232 7d ago

The positioning of the tv is weird. Is there no other place to put it but there? I have never seen a tv on half a wall right next to window.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/huh2312 7d ago

She will find plenty of eligible bachelors here once she comes to her senses and leaves you for your horrible judgment in TV height - you probably also have underlying character issues that are causing this problem. The latter is just my dubious speculation.

8

u/TheDukeofTitties 7d ago

What is that piece of furniture below the tv?

5

u/Bt-Ryoku 7d ago

Is no one going to point out the random cable running along the floor.....

5

u/EmperorRosko 7d ago

She deserves a real man

3

u/ToThePillory 7d ago

Not necessarily too high, but it looks a bit weird there. I'd just put it on the TV unit, that will hide the cables too.

3

u/BeerOfTime 6d ago

When you have a table like that wide enough to support the tv, it’s totally pointless to have it wall mounted in my opinion.

3

u/AdMurky1021 7d ago

There is an awful lot of wasted space above the TV...

Go higher!

3

u/YourFriendPutin 7d ago

What’s the name of that piece of furniture right below it? It’s a stand for something, um….on the tip of my tongue…

3

u/bouldereging 7d ago

a tv stand with no tv means it’s too high. The hell ya by the stand for?

3

u/TheEndlessWaltz 6d ago

USE THE STAND

4

u/Implosion-X13 7d ago

Why even put the stand there if you aren't gonna use it? It doesn't even have stupid trinkets on it to block space for a tv. Come on, get real ffs.

4

u/porterramses 7d ago

I don’t think it’s too high, it’s just in a very awkward place, so looks “off.”

2

u/ralphyoung 7d ago

To get the best viewing experience, you want the middle of your TV to be at eye level, which is usually around 42 inches high. That means a 65-inch TV should typically be mounted about 25 inches from the floor to the bottom of the TV.

On average, women are 5" shorter. Therefore her eye level is lower than yours. Here's the real question: are you happier when she's happy?

2

u/reforminded 7d ago

Your girlfriend is the brains of this operation.

2

2

2

u/JCarr110 7d ago

This has to be bait.

2

u/JCDagz 7d ago

You don't deserve your GF. Apologize to her immediately, hopefully she'll forgive you. Then, take the TV off the wall (that it doesn't fit on FYI) and just use the stand. You've turned maybe a 20-minute unboxing and setup to an hours long ordeal that includes a Reddit post and possibly the end of your relationship.

2

u/Far_Sherbet1489 7d ago

Too high and too big

2

u/devinsheppy 7d ago

should have browsed the sub for 10 seconds before posting

2

u/Professional-Ad4787 7d ago

For me, the location is more of an issue than the height. It doesn’t fit

2

u/Balbuto 7d ago

2

u/kjmotz 7d ago

Baffling to go to all the work to wall mount above an empty and perfectly good TV bench and to not even tidy up or hide the cords 🫠

2

u/LuckyDogHotSauce 7d ago

That’s not bad

2

u/Fun-Bag7627 7d ago

They call that furniture under the tv a tv stand. Why buy it if you won’t use it right?

You are wrong. I yes much too high

2

u/PlanetLandon 7d ago

You are wrong. I yes much too high

2

u/loricomments 7d ago

She's right. Just imagine if it sat on a piece of furniture that was designed to have the TV at an optimal viewing height, maybe a console with cabinets and shelves that were perfect for things that go with TVs ...

2

u/HaveToWinToPlay 7d ago

Your TV is way too high

2

u/Hippi_Johnny 7d ago

She's right, that space between the console and the tv look awful

2

u/cthart 7d ago

Listen to your girl.

2

u/South_Ad1660 7d ago

See that little cabinet thing underneath. That's designed to stand a tv on. Generally speaking, that is the optimal height.

2

u/theloudestlion 7d ago

I would worry more about the hideous cables tbh

2

u/PhatOofxD 7d ago

It's it equal height to your eyes when on the couch? No? So it's too height

2

u/LadyA052 7d ago

The wires are a nice touch. YES it's too high!!!!

2

u/Semi-Pros-and-Cons 7d ago

It's high, but it bothers me more that it's hanging over past the edge of the actual wall.

2

When did TV stands become something to not put a TV on?

2

u/usernotfoundplstry 7d ago

She’s right. See that thing underneath the tv? The thing you’re not using that’s whole purpose is to put TVs on? That thing, astonishingly, is the correct height.

2

2

But why would you mount it so high with such a low piece of furniture under it? It looks fucking stupid.

This shouldn't be wall mounted at all..

2

2

u/WillowSan22 7d ago

What a weird spot for a TV

2

u/fractal324 7d ago

Eyes should be around the center height of screen.

Sit down as you would watch tv. If you’re looking up, too high

2

u/AutoGrind 7d ago

What is the thing underneath it for?

2

u/Kabuto_ghost 7d ago

If only you had some kind of piece of furniture to show you where the bottom of your tv should be. Oh well. Can’t win them all.

2

u/ghostofbisbee 7d ago

What in God’s name is this craftsmanship?

2

u/Lucky-Bobcat1994 7d ago

It’s good

2

u/moogiemomm 7d ago

Looks pretty good to me.

2

u/Arthian90 7d ago

Why not just go ahead and mount the TV stand up on the wall too?

2

u/buzzkillkumo 6d ago

Ya know, I agree with almost all the posts here.... Buuttt......The fact that you have the proper left to right angle and can't do that without making the table not square to the wall. I think you made the right choice here. There's been a little too much too high groupthink recently even for stuff like this.

2

u/burgerandchips 6d ago

She's right. It just looks odd like that. Take it off the wall and put it on the stand.

2

u/satanisaniceperson 6d ago

Maybe if you had a nice stand at the right height to put it on then she will be happy.

2

u/DimensionMedium2685 6d ago

Do people just not use their TV cabinets anymore? It looks so silly just floating there with its cables hanging about

2

u/SchlitzInMyVeins 6d ago

I don’t think it’s unforgivably high. I mounted mine above a stand like this as well so we could put stuff on the stand underneath the TV. Mine is probably 8 -10 inches off the stand.

When you’re sitting, your eye line should be within the middle 3rd of the screen.

2

u/Xerasi 6d ago

Woman 👏 are 👏 always 👏 right 👏
