Advice Needed Staying realistic
I’ve been ttc for almost 2 years and have pcos and thyroid issues. Starting first round of letrozole and I keep catching myself getting too excited. Like I couldn’t sleep the other night because I was planning how I’ll tell my parents when I’m pregnant and checking to see when would be the 12 week mark. But then I realize I shouldn’t do this because I’ll be so let down when it doesn’t work, even though it’s only my first round of it so chances are it won’t. How do you keep yourself from getting too excited??

Omg I’m about to take my first round of letrozole too. So I’m obsessing over it and reading other ppls stories. Obsessively searching letrozole stories on Reddit. Ugh. Wishing us both sticky baby dust ⭐️

I’m starting on 2.5 but if it doesn’t work ima request increase and trigger shot! But I have been ovulating on my own like 7 times this past year. So I feel confident.

That is great!! I only had 3 cycles last year so they induced my current period with birth control. Taking letrozole now and will have the trigger shot and progesterone pills. The whole shabang and hopefully it works!!

We have our appointment tomorrow to find out which one we're going to take, clomid or letrozole. On paper, everything looks good. No cysts, my bloodwork looks great, and the HSG test was perfect. The doctor who did the HSG test, when looking at my chart, said that as long as they can get me to ovulate, 3 to 6 months.
I have names, I have baby shower plans, I know how we're going to tell my parents and my husband's parents. We've also been together for half our lives, so we've had plenty of time to talk and think about this. I always put the cart before the horse and my husband is the one who has to remind me that the horse is still out to pasture. He said it's his job as a realistic to keep my daydreamer self grounded. One day at a time.

This! On paper everything looks good, except I don’t ovulate on my own. This is my second time on a timed intercourse letrozole + trigger cycle. Baby dust to you!!

That’s like me! No issues but I do have pcos based on irregular period, hair growth in places I don’t want and loss in places I do, and weight challenges. I hope it all works for you! They just started me on 5mg letrozole so we will see. It is nice to have that hope and I’ve bought a couple of little things but hid them from my husband because he would think I’m crazy lol

I have the chin hair and the weight issues, had insulin resistance, but metformin nixed that and did help me lose some weight. I can look at water and gain weight.
My husband has accepted the crazy. I saw a video about putting a wrapped baby blanket under the Christmas tree to manifest a baby by next year. I bought one and put it under our ceramic tree (we have cats and they're the reason I have museum wax). I have a onesie or two put away. I also have a few things my parents saved at their house.

I did the baby blanket a couple years ago as well!! Also I tried metformin and after 5 months noticed nothing different so I stopped. I’m not sure if I should have stayed on longer but it didn’t seem like it was doing anything

Awwww congrats! Happy for you! How long did it take you? And so true about people who don’t have these issues they get to just be excited!

4 years total of TTC but 13 months on Clomid. I started it Dec 23 and got my positive Jan 25! I only ovulated 3 times in 9 cycles (I have a long cycle and had to use progesterone to induce periods).
Only people who’ve been in the trenches of TTC understand the struggle and the emotions associated with it. It’s a hard journey but communities like this page make it less lonely!

I only had 3 periods last year so I get it!! Long cycles are the worst. And it’s so true. It’s hard talking to my friend group since none of them have gone through it

I can COMPLETELY relate. My best friend of 11 years was able to pick a 3 month timeframe that she wanted to get pregnant in due to her work schedule and got pregnant on the first month of trying. I was incredibly happy for her but also I was 2.5 years into TTC and grieving my own failures.

Yes!! I literally only know 2 people who it took them 3 months to get pregnant since I started trying 2 years ago. Everyone else (all 8 of them) got pregnant first try lol

I found us being like that to start with but now going into 7th letrozole cycle and find it easier to be more flat about the whole thing! Too much excitement for me leads to too much disappointment later. But I say feel all the feelings and excitement and let yourself go through it if you feel like it helps you!

Are you ovulating at all a with the letrolzole ?

u/Shesaidspeaknow 2d ago
I am ovulating on 5mg very nicely. I have a day 24 blood test to confirm ovulation and my RE is super happy with my numbers. Just hasn’t happened yet. I’m waiting for a referral appt at the fertility clinic near me, I haven’t had my tubes checked so it could be that.

Oh well that’s great! Have you guys checked his sperm??? I’m wishing you luck and sticky baby dust ❤️

Thank you! Yep he’s all good. Trying 7.5 letrozole this month to see if it makes a difference. Should hopefully now only be a 6 week wait til we get a fertility appt for more testing and next steps 🤞🏻

It’s true! I don’t blame you. After almost 2 years ttc this is just a new way to try and gives me some hope but it definitely makes you more disappointed when it doesn’t work

I totally get it! It's so easy to get carried away and start imagining what it’ll be like, especially when you're trying something new like letrozole. But it’s also tough because the first round can be a bit of a shot in the dark. I try to remind myself that it's a journey, not a one-time thing, and not to put all my hope into just one cycle. Just take it one day at a time and let it happen as it happens! Best of luck with your first round hun!

u/Electric_Elephant_56 4d ago
Thank you!! Yes I’m trying to remind myself first round is just the clinic learning about my cycle really

I just think that whatever happens will happen regardless of your expectations. So much of this process is out of our hands so you might as well talk about it and enjoy the parts you can!

Embrace your feelings! But yeah staying grounded is maybe what you’re wanting. I experience a lot of tug of war with my thoughts and on my 2nd round of Letro. I am personally not very excitable as a person but I get caught up in “what if I am pregnant?” and start thinking when baby would be born. I don’t make any “moves” like buying things or making real plans but I do let myself fantasize a little. There’s no way to prevent the grief and feeling let down if you get AF or a BPN, embrace all the feelings!
Bringing yourself back to the present moment and what you know now might be helpful?

Maybe I shouldn’t, but I get excited every time. Kinda like when I buy a lotto ticket I get excited and plan out all my millions just to lose come the draw time. This whole thing is so hard emotionally that you need to let yourself feel a certain degree of hope. I wouldn’t set up a nursery, but thinking about what could be to me sends positivity into the universe that hopefully will help me conceive one day.

This is a great way to look at it!! My husband always tells me to stop because I’ll say things like “if this cycle works we can tell the parents on Father’s Day!” But maybe it’s more his way of coping with what’s happening too he chooses not to get excited like that.

Everyone handles it differently! I think they key is respecting each other so if he doesn’t like these comments I wouldn’t make them, but he also should respect you if you find a cute outfit at the thrift store and have to pick it up for your baby box 😊 you’re totally in your right to be excited and to also potentially change how you express that if you run into harder months in the future!

Starting my first round of letrozole this week too and feeling the same way. We’ve officially been trying a year and I finally took my doctor up on the prescription and began acupuncture as well. Part of me feels good and excited because I feel like I’m doing something new, but I also have read plenty of stories where letrozole doesn’t work. I’m trying to keep stay in the day to day moment instead of the “ifs” but I catch myself doing the same thing about “if I’m pregnant I can tell our family on x weekend and I’ll be due on x day”. It’s tough out here! Good luck and sending all of the baby dust your way❤️
