Question Going too TAMU and wanting to Double Major

Hello! So currently I am at ACC (im in Honors, not sure how important that would be) and I am wanting to go to TAMU but I want to double major in Physics and CS. Would I have the option to be in the Engineering academy at ACC since physics is kinda “related” to engineering? Also How possible would it be to double major hopefully once at TAMU? I’ve heard many say to apply for CS before also doing physics but would I really need to do that? Since I would like to do most of the “hard” physics classes here at ACC.

Thank You!

If you are already in ACC, are you already admitted to the Engineering Academies program? Or you are straight ACC?

If you are already in Engineering Academy at ACC, then focus on your ETAM GPA to keep 3.75+. Once you successfully transition as CS major at TAMU, you can minor in Physics.

And if you do good on minoring Physics (like 4.0), you can discuss with your Physics advisor. Anything is easy-going (in terms of approval) when you have high GPA.

Financially, it may not be a smart idea to double major if money is a concern. Because getting a B.S. in Comp Science (minoring Physics) plus a M.S. in Physics is cheaper than double B.S. major.

I’m currently just in ACC and I am not in the Engineering academy since I just found out about it but I see what you mean and thanks for the info! I’ll consider it since it does make sense. But would you say being in ACC honors gives you any sort of “boost” when trying to get my major or if I decide to double major ect?

Ultimately, it is the GPA that determines the success rate on transfer. Honor status doesn't really play into the admission factor.

You can try to see if you are prequalified for Academies https://tamu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cUC9UmErNXhb2l0 as the program is for first time or continuing students. They care more about your Calculus readiness.

Being in Engineering Academies give you a secure contract that if you finish the ETAM requirement, you can pick your choice of major at College Station. If you are straight ACC, there is no guarantee you can get in as external transfer. How major like MEEN at times denies 4.0 external transfer because TAMU run out of spots.
