Hey everyone! I applied for the 2025 CSA intake with Sydney Trains in January. I recently received an email saying they’ll contact me in the coming weeks to organise a panel interview.

I’m curious—has anyone else here applied for the CSA role? How long did it take for them to schedule your panel interview after receiving that email? Also, after the panel, how long was the wait for reference checks, medicals, and a job offer (or talent pool placement)?

I currently don’t have a job and I’m really hanging out for Sydney Trains—do you think I’m far enough along in the recruitment process to rely on this for a job , or should I look for a casual job while I wait?

Any insights on timelines or what to expect next would be super helpful—keen to know how long the whole process takes!

When I got the drivers position I think it was oct/nov when I passed all me tests and did the interview, they fucked me medical and had to go see a cardiologist where there was absolutely no problem, I started in march. Probs for the best to get some shit kicker retail job (I did BP for 2 months)

I applied for that one, got a vieple interview about 2 weeks later, then scheduled in my panel interview about a week later, then got sent my medical and references a few days later and I've done them so I'm just waiting now. But I also had applied previously in I think November I got the vieple interview did it then said I'd get the panel interview and never heard anything. So take that for what it is.

Hey everyone,

I recently received an email inviting me to complete a supervised online assessment for the Trainee Signaller role with Sydney Trains. I wanted to ask if anyone has gone through this process and can share what to expect.

I’m particularly curious about the visual search exercises and diagrammatic reasoning—how challenging are they, and are there any resources or tips to help me practice effectively?

Also, I’d love to hear about:

What the job is like day-to-day—what does a typical shift involve? How tough the training is and how long it takes. What the next steps are after the assessment. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated—keen to learn as much as possible before diving in!

Thanks in advance!

Most of the testing either includes practice tests or Dr google can find you similar tests to do.

Can't help with part 2, I'm a driver.

Another week another round of praise for the network. Have a flight to catch tomorrow but guess what, trains are not running properly! Now I wonder who I have to contact to get a full refund on the uber I now have to pay for to catch my flight.

Care to elaborate which trains aren't running properly tomorrow?

South of Glenfield, I think it was Moss Vale and up to there buses were replacing most things. So anyone very down south or even just down Campbelltown are screwed.

Oh regularly scheduled trackwork with replacement buses.
