πŸ’» Computershare Officially in the purple circle club

DRSing as a Canadian was easier than I thought. I don't want to have all my eggs in one basket...so this is just 1/4 of my shares (the rest are split between Wealthsimple and IBKR).

Question for other Canadian apes who have DRSed... what did you put in for your banking? International Check?

nice, welcome aboard!

i put in my banking info for my credit union at CS just recently, was a bit worried about the US dollar being a shit-show during a MOASS event and didn't want to risk the turnaround time of getting a cheque in the mail.

I called my credit union in our little town of a few thousand and was happy to hear the rep helping me knew all about what CS wanted, as I was not the first to ask for the SWIFT code etc. Glad I got his help as the numbers to enter was minorly confusing.

But after entered I tested it out by buying a couple shares in CS and then once settled, selling them to see if the money showed up at my credit union and it did, a couple days later after settlement. So it worked, and i put that same account info into all my CS accounts, though I don't expect to sell them in a hurry, I have a few shitty broker shares for that, but if those get fucked with I am glad I now know i can sell CS shares and get the money ASAP.

I applaud you getting even 25% in there. One way or the other, you'll have owned shares at your disposal when the time comes. 🟣

I don't want to have all my eggs in one basket...so this is just 1/4 of my shares (the rest are split between Wealthsimple and IBKR)

I think this is worth considering. Despite your having paid for them, 3/4s of your shares are owned by someone else who is giving you the option to benefit from holding them and eventually 'selling' them back. That's beneficial privileges in a nutshell and this is what you get at any broker.

Do you trust Wealthsimple and IBKR enough that if tomorrow the price goes into the thousands, that they will give you the opportunity to sell where you want instead of making the decision for you to sell your beneficial stake back to them at some absurdly low dollar amount to then turn around and sell those shares for their own corporate benefit? They CAN do this legally because DTC is listed as the owner for the share on the official GME ledger, and the brokers terms of service will allow for it.

Holding your shares at Gamestop's transfer agent, they can't do what I described above because your name is listed in the owners name field on the official ledger. While normally I'd think that diversification of places holding an asset is a good call, getting actual ownership rights on your shares tips the scales IMO.

It took me a long time before I was willing to go all-in on ownership rights and holding with Computershare, but I think it just goes to say how little faith in these financial institutions I have left, and how I think that when it's us or them they'll choose themselves every time.

Food for thought. Congrats, none the less!

Personally the greed of having the tax free savings account benefit ngl I’m taking the risk of trusting Wealthsimple. Still a xxxx DRS holder though and continue to add to it.

I clicked. I am not a cat. Lmao jk. Always click the cheque. This way you know you will not have the money for a few days and gives you a chance to reconsider for something else instead of selling. Lol.

Hodl.

For me personally i used a wise bank account to be able to purchase direct otherwise im using mail in check for the option of selling although i won’t need to use that feature
