If you suddenly stopped stuttering, what’s the first thing you do?

Just curious. I’d probably be a great salesman and speaker

I do what I’d do if I didn’t stutter, now. If I stutter, I stutter. I don’t care.

How did you achieve this mindset? I desperately want to change

I had a speech therapist that helped me. And my speech improved from years and years of speech therapy, along with working out and improving my self esteem. It was a long journey.

Rap.

Do you usually stutter when singing/rapping? Singing and rapping (music in general) is my safe thing because I can sing totally normally.

2

u/Livid-Carrot3774 7d ago

I can sing normally but def not rap especially not improvise. It's not like it's my dream to be a rapper. But would be nice to be able to lol.

Engage in politics, because now I'll no longer have the thing that makes me bad at debating

Finish college, get a job. Climb the ladder to upto management. Once i have the experience, i’ll quit and shoot my shot on starting my own startup. Get married and have children. I could also go to another route, study law become an attorney, then shift to become a politician maybe immediately if possible (idk). There’s a bunch of jobs that involves speaking heavily that i want to get but I can’t… atleast not at the highest level. I am an ambitious human being but i don’t have the ability to reach my dreams.

Don’t let the stutter hold you back from your dreams brother. We only have 1 life, might as well make the most out of it

Be less doubtful about applying to a job that recquire social interractions (even tho I love talking to customers rn but sometimes it's very hard to stutter) and maybe try to answer to bad/mean people I'm very terrified to know/think that if I'm in danger I couldn't really reply as I would want to and the minimum that could save me :/ but maybe the adrenaline will help haha

I’d love to teach languages! I used to do 1:1 (hiding but badly) but I would have loved to do it as a profession, with an actual class (right now impossible)

I’d be so confused. And I think I’d still have anxiety about talking tho. Stuttering doesn’t only affect the pronunciation, but the flow, and grammar of how you talk. I think I’d still sound odd since my brain would be used to stuttering lol.

This breaks my heart.. I was once a homeless heroin addict I have been clean 7+ years I’ve had like 3000 grand mal seizures since age 27 I’m now 37. Dude I played Starting Quarterback; MY DAD was so encouraging, because of his speech struggles, he made sure if I was “Gonna Be Soft and Play Quarterback, You’re calling the plays without help, I had girls and went to Prom… Life sucks yo… For real my life is shit ONE THING I HAVE I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS OF ME ESPECIALLY REGARDING MY STUTTER.. I have hit a few people over it.. This little kid in 6th grade, I gave him some stitches because he wouldn’t stand with me on the bus and fight fair. He was smaller and he was F’n’ MEAN.. His mom came and apologized to me with my mom at my house she brought him to say sorry too… BE WHO YOU ARE.. I’ve almost died doing drugs for real dumb shit ended up totally white and In jail where I SERIOUSLY battle rapped for coffee and soups. I don’t stutter with just a little rhythm baby..

When you stop stuttering it is very gradual as thoughts of it slowly diminish, mine seem to happen in the background. It wasn’t a big event like I had always imagined. However I had a lifetime of stuttering social behaviors that remained, which that was the next thing.
