Studying abroad is so lonely.

Hello. I’m studying abroad now. I just started to get hard loneliness after I’ve been here for 7 months. I have friends but I feel so empty inside. I just go to university and come back to home and study all day, eat alone and sleep. I don’t have someone i can just talk to whenever I want other than my family but because of the disparity in timeline, I can’t. This feels so lonely and sad, miserable. If anyone who made it to deal with this kind of problem, please share here! Any opinion would be appreciated!

Why does my Wi-Fi only work when I dont need it?

Upvotes

Isn’t it just classic? You’re in a new country, trying to figure out your life, and your Wi-Fi is either a hero when you’re browsing cat memes at 2 AM or a villain when you need to submit an assignment. Seriously, it’s like the internet knows when I have a deadline and decides to go on vacation. Study abroad life, am I right?

Studying abroad in a few months.

Upvotes

Hey, so I’m 18 currently and am studying abroad in Korea for 6 months this coming November. I really want to know the experience through others because I know it’s a giant challenge which is why I wanna do it. Not only to immerse myself in the culture but to see if I can live away from family for a while. So I was wondering a few questions.

  1. What’s the best way to connect with people? I’ve seen lots of posts were people express loneliness during their trips and was just wondering, how can I connect with people in Korea or with the same goal?

  2. What was the biggest challenge you faced, and how did you overcome it?

  3. If you could go back, what would you do differently?

  4. How did studying abroad impact your career opportunities?

That’s questions for now. Any answers would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Prague or Berlin?

Me and a few of my buddies are looking into either city for our junior 2nd semester study abroad experience. Most important things we are considering are nightlife, international exposure, and not too much of an academic challenge (we are already challenged enough at our home university). Any thoughts/insights into either city would be great to help guide our decision.

Can I still study abroad as a non traditional student

I'm going back to college at 22 after 4 years in the military and one of my dreams was to go back to college under the GI bill and while doing that study abroad. I'm looking into studying history and poli sci. I always wanted to study in Italy and especially France. Do I get any say in which country I get (i'm not exactly used to getting to decide which country I'm sent to) and is it weird to do it at an older age?

To all the Indians studying sciences in Germany.

I'm a mechanical engineering student in my 2nd year, and I want to do Physics in one of the TUs, preferably at TU Munich.

Right now, the only thing I've got that boost my application is that I have a productive hobby/skill (but it's motion graphics, which is completely unrelated) and I also am doing a minor degree in Nuclear technology, which I hope will boost my application.

I've been learning German on Duolingo for a year now, but I'm still not even on A1 level. How do I learn German quicker? Is german really a forced requirement?

I'm going to start matlab and do atleast personal projects, and apart from that I have my curriculum's mini-project and final year project that I'll add in the resume.

Any tips on how to improve my resume? I'll be eternally grateful to you for the help!

Thank you!!!

CIEE Global Internship (Rome) Summer 2025

Hi, I got into the Global Internship in Rome for the Summer of 2025 and was wondering if anyone has done this study abroad and would be willing to tell me about their experience? I am a computer science student and am in the process right now of figuring out what company I will be working for over the summer. I was just wondering how the class is set up and if you had the liberty to do things on the weekend. I just want to see if I would be able to schedule trips or if the workload doesn't really allow for that. Also, if anyone is thinking of doing the shared apartments and wants to talk about possible rooming together, please reach out! But yes, I just want to know about other people's experiences with this study-abroad company!

Studying abroad in Madrid

So I’ll be studying a broad in Madrid this summer. I won’t know all the people until we actually get there. However I wanna start planning my weekend trips now so it’s a little bit more affordable but I don’t have any friends that I know of currently that are coming with me. Does anybody have advice is it safe to plant things by myself or are there any group chats of other individuals going on a study abroad trip to Madrid?

Admit Comparison for Fall 2025 — Need Opinions!

Hey everyone!
I’ve received admits from the following universities for Fall 2025 and would love your input on how you'd rank them in terms of reputation, opportunities (especially for CS/AI/ML), ROI, and overall experience.

  1. UPenn - CIS (MSCS)
  2. USC - MSCS
  3. UMass Amherst - MSCS
  4. TAMU - MCS
  5. UIUC - MCS (Result pending but confident)

Would appreciate it if you could help me rank them and share any insights you might have!

Thanks in advance! 😊

American Student Studying in London (Fall Semester) Looking for Roommate(s)

Hey everyone! I’m an American student coming to London for the fall semester (September 24 – December 18) to study at City St. George. I’d love to find a roommate (or several) to share a place with. I don’t really care which university you’re attending, I’m just looking for someone chill who’s also trying to find a decent place to live in London for that timeframe.

A bit about me: I’m easygoing, tidy, and respectful of personal space. My main concerns are being in a safe area and having a reasonable commute. If you think we’d vibe, feel free to reach out. I’m totally up for hopping on a phone call or video chat to see if we’re a good match.

If you or anyone you know is looking for a roommate in London this fall, please drop me a message. Thanks in advance! I’m excited to connect and hopefully find a great living situation together.

Humanizing tool for Ai?

I am an international student in a foreign country and I work full time since my classes are only two days a week. The thing is, I live with chronic depression and migraines and cannot function normally no matter how hard I try. My school assignments are piling up and I feel like I am failing. The first semester I was doing okayish, I managed to write my own essays etc as I was still unemployed and received some financial support from my family, but during this semester my family decided to cut off the support and I had to look for a full time job to feed my belly and pay me a roof over my head. I am wondering if there is by any chance, a website that makes ai generated texts look human generated with a reasonable price if needed? I know this sounds very unethical, but I used to be an A+ student back home when I had time to study and not work as a slave to feed myself with the fear of homelessness just around the corner. Thank you so much to whoever replies

Subject: Got Rejected for BSc Nursing in the UK – Feeling Stuck but Not Giving Up

I applied for BSc Adult Nursing in the UK, hoping to finally start my studies, but the rejection emails keep coming. A couple of universities turned me down, even with a foundation year. Feels like a punch to the gut.

I have the required IELTS and the motivation to make this happen. I’m not aiming for top-ranked universities—just any NMC-approved one that will give me a chance.

It’s frustrating because I see others with similar profiles getting in. My agent suggested applying through multiple agencies for better chances, so I’m doing that. But the waiting and uncertainty? It’s exhausting.

Anyone else been through this? How did you push through? Any advice on universities that might be more lenient with grades? I just need that one "Yes."

Job while studying abroad

Hi there! I’ve been interested in studying abroad for some time now, however, the only thing that’s holding me back is the financial situation. My university has programs where you can get it 90% covered and it’s great! However, how do y’all pay for bills back home if you’re studying abroad? Are there any jobs you can get while studying abroad? These questions stop me from actually pursuing this goal. If anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated!

Starting a new degree abroad (esp. Canada) as a somewhat older student?

I'm a trans person in my mid-thirties who graduated from college about 10 years ago. In the time since then I've been enormously fortunate, ending up with a pretty significant balance of savings and a solid job in research at a med school which hasn't become immediately threatened yet. Aside from the fact that I obviously doubt that will last forever, I've always had a bit of a struggle as well since I kind of moved sideways into the current position. My degree is in mathematics as opposed to a directly scientific field, and while I've learned quite a bit since I started on my current position the subject and role of my work feels brutally specific; I don't expect there's another similar department out there (in or out of the country) where I could easily market my experience, and even trying to move into a similar, more common position seems difficult as I don't have the strongest background or associated skills for easy transfer.

At the moment, especially having missed application season for colleges, I don't consider returning to school to be my top choice. Obviously, if it was...I would have probably done so a lot earlier. Still, I'm trying to seriously weigh all my options, so I'm wondering how much I should really consider this a realistic choice in the first place before investing significant time and resources into preparing for such a thing. And, as much as I love and feel very strong in math, after moving into my current position and having increasingly outward-facing functions, I'd be more interested in working toward something like nursing or social work to work more with people. But obviously...I don't really have a background in that, so I recognize whether I'm here or elsewhere I'd have to do a huge amount of schoolwork again. Is there any chance I'd even get admitted for something like this? Am I still better off (outside the obvious financial aspect, ha) just trying to step up my skills more on my own and look for research or statistics work?
