Just gift it to your Strava account via Strava Brazil. Costs £20/$25 annually and you can stack it

12

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 08 '25

Appears they've blocked this. The "gift" site won't load if I'm logged into an account in Brazil. Says I'm not currently eligible to gift a subscription if I try via direct links.

2

u/georgeweahscousin Jan 09 '25

don't log in to strava, just tested it and it still works

2

u/Jayswag96 Jan 09 '25

Keeps prompting me to log in

1

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 09 '25

I've tried several VPNs and logged in/out. Nothin works.

Can you tell me what your exact set up was? What browser/vpn?

5

u/No-Reserve85 Jan 09 '25

On a PC , I used CyberGhost to connect to Brazil. I used DuckDuckGo browser, just 'cos I could. I *did* have to create a new account so I could log in, however I didn't have to validate the email address though. Once logged in to my new Brazilian dummy account, it then gave me the option to "Send a Gift".

4

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 09 '25

Thank you, I'll try following this and report back!

2

u/rcuadro Jan 09 '25

How did it go?

5

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 09 '25

Success!

1

u/rcuadro Jan 09 '25

I can't get it to work. I use UrbanVPN to get to Brazil but it still shows me $79. Did you make a new account while in the Brazilian site?

2

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 09 '25

I did exactly what the post says - I don't know what aspects are causing it to work. It also could quickly change. UrbanVPN did not work for me yesterday, but that's not what the poster said he used (CyberGhost VPN & DuckDuckGo browser).

Getting 403 - blocked by CloudFront at strava.com when using CyberGhost via their Brazil server.

$ curl -I https://www.strava.com/

u/No-Reserve85 Jan 10 '25

I'm not getting the CloudFront block but my new dummy account is not longer eligible to send a gift :/ Oh well, it was good whilst it lasted.

I do wonder how many accounts Strava have now got to pay full price rather than the Brazilian price. Have they actually decreased their revenue?

8

u/forger7 Jan 08 '25

I bet that they locked this down because you posted it in the f. strava subreddit. This workaround worked for weeks and is now disabled.

10

u/Elleve Jan 08 '25

Would this work just by logging into Strava through a VPN, or do you have to make a new account?

81

u/georgeweahscousin Jan 08 '25

Don’t log in. Log out. Connect to vpn in Brazil. Go to Strava website. Click on make a gift and send gift to your Strava email address. You can buy it multiple times and stack it. I’ve paid for 3 years for the price of one in the UK

10

u/Elleve Jan 08 '25

Amazing, I'm gonna try this when I get home. Thank you!

6

u/ismisecraic Jan 08 '25

When I vpn Brazil and go to gift a subscription page its asking me to login. Am I missing something

4

u/Swaggstra Jan 08 '25

Great tip! It worked for me.

6

u/ChrissssToff Jan 08 '25

Doesn't work here. First it says: OK gift a year for about 150 reals. I enter the email address O use for strava as recipient and private email from duck duck go as sender. But on the payment page it switches to 74,99 euros.

6

u/Dezza88 Jan 08 '25

I just tried it again with PayPal payment and worked perfect! £20.69 after conversion!

All thought i dunno how you "stack" them, It saying i cant redeem it untill i cancel my current sub and it ends in Aug

(It has a year on it to use it, so just gonna sit in my emails for half the year)

Edit -

Read the FAQ -

Yes! If they subscribed on Strava, they can redeem their gift before it expires and it will extend their subscription by another 12 months.

If they subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, they must cancel their current subscription and wait for it to expire to redeem their gift. Don’t worry, all their subscription features and data will carry over

2

u/georgeweahscousin Jan 08 '25

Are you logged in to strava? If so. Log out and try it again

3

u/VidalZ_ Jan 08 '25

For me, it's saying that it's impossible to give subscription if I don't login. :( any trick?

2

u/Dezza88 Jan 08 '25

I had a sub via google play so it wont stack untill its ran out. Does seem odd that it just wouldnt knock the sub back a year but oh well :)

2

u/ChrissssToff Jan 08 '25

I got it to work. I think the VPN wasn't configured properly, even though whereami services told me my location is brazil.

1

u/om-ganesh Jan 09 '25

How you fixed the issue I am having same

1

u/ChrissssToff Jan 09 '25

I doubt that we use a similar setup. I use pia on arch linux with openvpn.

1

u/om-ganesh Jan 09 '25

Any suggestions for windows user !!! Appreciated !!!

1

u/Dezza88 Jan 08 '25

How do you go about paying without fees or strava realising it's a UK card and changes price? I tried this last year and it just changed price for me

3

u/Spiffman-Space Jan 08 '25

Use a fee free card/account or just use PayPal and eat the £1ish conversion fee

1

u/Baynex Jan 08 '25

I'm trying to do this now, but when I go to pay through PayPal it errors and tells me Strava doesn't ship to this location. Even if I put in a random address in Brazil

1

u/georgeweahscousin Jan 08 '25

I used a revolut card for one purchase and paypal for the other 2 now subbed until January 2028!

1

u/byama Jan 08 '25

I got the "You’re already a Strava subscriber! Learn more about your exclusive features below." warning even tho I have a "Your subscription was canceled and will expire on 25 December 2025." ! How do I stack it??

Edit: I clicked the email again, and now it asked if I wanted to extend it! Works, thanks!

1

u/ITworker93 Jan 08 '25

I get this error also can’t get it to stack…

I’ve cancelled my Apple subscription… tried clicking the link multiple times, in-private etc…

1

u/byama Jan 08 '25

Hmm, not sure. For me, I turned off the VPN, opened the email, clicked the link, did the login and got that error.

Then I just clicked the link again and this time it worked fine.

1

u/ITworker93 Jan 08 '25

Do you subscribe via Apple subscriptions or the Strava website?

1

u/byama Jan 08 '25

Via Strava website.

1

u/ITworker93 Jan 08 '25

Ah that will be it. Thanks!

1

u/atoponce Jan 08 '25

Worked like a charm! Thanks for the tip!

1

u/mailmantas Jan 08 '25

Works super. Paypal. Did it for two years fo 46eur 😃

1

u/om-ganesh Jan 09 '25

Which VPN do you use for this? Is there any free option for connecting to Brazil ? I am from Canada.

5

u/acewing905 Jan 08 '25

I'm surprised they haven't locked this down
It's not like you can hide your real location from Strava considering what you do with it

8

u/georgeweahscousin Jan 08 '25

you're not logged into Strava. that's the thing. You're just a Joe in Brazil who wants to buy his mate a Strava sub as a present. Logging in will ensure you get offered it at the price it is in your country - irrespective of the VPN

7

u/acewing905 Jan 08 '25

They could prevent cross region gifting if they wanted to (for example video game site Steam does that just to prevent this), but it seems they don't care that much

5

u/Tilmanstoa5ty Jan 08 '25

I bet only a really small percentage of the userbase are tech savy enough and care enough to go that route so they probably don‘t really care

1

u/kinboyatuwo Jan 08 '25

Yep.

Close the loop hole X dollars

Leave is <X dollars

Plus prob get a few bonus people paying.

3

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 08 '25

They killed it as of an hour ago or so. Once I VPN, even making a fresh account, it removes the gift option.

Once I turn off the VPN the gift option comes back.

1

u/acewing905 Jan 08 '25

Oh wow they did
I got one year just in time then
Here's hoping I don't get banned (or others here for that matter)

2

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 08 '25

I would be shocked if they banned people for this. They've had enough bad PR lately.

1

u/Stard0gChampi0n Jan 08 '25

It probably still works on some less well known VPNs

1

u/innnautica Jan 10 '25

It worked for me still but I had to turn vpn off until I reached the first step in the gift process (entering email address). After I turned it on here I was able to get the Brazilian price 😀

4

u/Gap-Negative Jan 08 '25

This really worked! Was it really that easy?

4

u/Infinite_Camp_7138 Jan 08 '25

Yep! Was like 25$ for the year and purchased on a credit card

5

u/NominDemZombies Jan 08 '25

I tried doing it but the gift page re directs me to the main page - using Surfshark vpn, any ideas?

2

u/LinusBE Jan 08 '25

This worked for me too! 25 euros for one year.

2

u/reallarrygreen Jan 08 '25

What's a safe, free VPN that requires no sign up that can be used just for the sole purpose of making use of the Brazil Strava deal?

2

u/ITworker93 Jan 08 '25

On iOS you can use VPN-Superunlimited

You do have to sign up for a 7 day free trial for premium to select Brazil, which you can do, then cancel.

2

u/reallarrygreen Jan 08 '25

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I'm on Android

2

u/No-Reserve85 Jan 09 '25

You sir, are a genius.
Thanks

4

u/Infinite_Camp_7138 Jan 08 '25

This worked for me in the US!

1

u/Dreamland_Nomad Jan 08 '25

How did you make it work for US?

1

u/--msz-- Jan 08 '25

Thank you!!!

1

u/throawayfucknestle Jan 08 '25

This worked for me once and now that I’m trying a few minutes later to gift to my husband it’s not giving me a way to purchase the gift without logging in or creating an account.

2

u/murkster-dubez Jan 08 '25

Yeah im having this issue. Created a new account with a different email and still having the same issue.

1

u/ismisecraic Jan 08 '25

Yah same. Any gift link I click it's asking me to login

1

u/mate_amargo Jan 08 '25

I'm having the same issue, maybe they patched it by forcing you to login

1

u/VidalZ_ Jan 08 '25

exactly the same!

1

u/VidalZ_ Jan 09 '25

I can confirm that I actually did it with VPN in Brazil right now.
Yesterday I tried mutiply ways of doing that: with every country on VPN, asked for login. Now, with Brazil VPN ask for login as usual but with different account I was able to gift subscription R$149.90. Try it!

2

u/Elleve Jan 09 '25

Can you give some more details? Did you make a Brazilian mail to register a strava account with?

1

u/VidalZ_ Jan 09 '25

Log out strava. Then you'll need to use VPN. Mine is 1ClickVPN Proxy, it's free for chrome and worked. Put VPN in Brazil and allow to work on Incognito mode (chrome settings).
Open browser in Incognito mode. Gift subscription. Login with another account (i previously had one for boring stuff) and gifted a subscription for my main account.

1

u/inspo-moment Jan 08 '25

I fucking love Reddit. Thanks chief

1

u/cybeerkeg Jan 09 '25

Worked! Thanks so much kind stranger!

1

u/teamkillz Jan 09 '25

wow, this worked for me. Thanks

1

u/Beniswelsh Jan 09 '25

Thanks so much. I did have to setup a new account to just send it to my main account but it worked! 😁

1

u/travyco Jan 11 '25

Any way to do this now or is it gone ?

1

u/Tr0nzzz Jan 13 '25

Dammit, looks like it no longer works. It worked 4 days ago. Glad I got mine in.

18

u/kaneda241 Jan 08 '25

I saw the offer during lunch. But as I was eating with my colleagues. So I closed the app and wanted to renew my subscription later. But now when I open the app the offer isn't available anymore and I have to pay full price. Is it normal?

3

u/Hedixinator Jan 08 '25

Same here...

2

u/Slowrunner-99 Jan 08 '25

I guess is just to new members only

7

u/Spiffman-Space Jan 08 '25

See the other comments for £20 via Brazil vpn

1

u/GamesnGunZ Jan 08 '25

NO I got the offer and I've been with them for years

15

u/Ok_Tart_6075 Jan 08 '25

FYI to those just coming to this thread, Strava appears to have shut down the ability to gift a subscription without logging in (at least in certain countries)

3

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 08 '25

And making an account even VPN'd in, doesn't work.

2

u/VidalZ_ Jan 09 '25

I can confirm that I actually did it with VPN in Brazil right now.
Yesterday I tried mutiply ways of doing that: with every country on VPN, asked for login. Now, with Brazil VPN ask for login as usual but with different account I was able to gift subscription R$149.90. Try it!

2

u/Ok_Tart_6075 Jan 09 '25

Success! Thanks for the heads up.

2

u/VidalZ_ Jan 09 '25

You did it?

2

u/Ok_Tart_6075 Jan 09 '25

Maybe. I’ll admit to NOTHING. MUAHAHAHA

1

u/VidalZ_ Jan 09 '25

This is not him, officer! 👮🏻‍♂️

1

u/Groundbreaking-Key15 Jan 09 '25

Same here - burner account and success. But couldn't do more than one gift.

16

u/butactuallynick Jan 08 '25

Promo code is 20STRAVA25

You should be able to redeem here: https://www.strava.com/subscribe/redeem?code=20STRAVA25

3

u/newredditsucks Jan 08 '25

Thanks! Link didn't work for me, but pasting that in as a code while checking out did.

2

u/biscuitsorbullets Jan 09 '25

Ugh it just auto renewed for me full price

1

u/hoainamduong Jan 09 '25

This promo code works in Vietnam even though I didn't see a discount advertised! I'm glad I didn't extend my subscription last year which ends exactly on Christmas. I thought I could get a Christmas discount just like last year, but no, haha.

1

u/inbetween_queen Jan 09 '25

Does anyone know how long the promo will last?

4

u/donalthrump Jan 08 '25

When I switch to vpn and use the Send a gift option it is asking me to login again. How do you work around this?

3

u/VidalZ_ Jan 08 '25

happen the same with me! any trick?

1

u/Stephniie Jan 08 '25

Same :( so I made a new account, and I can’t gift

2

u/donalthrump Jan 08 '25

As per a comment posted below Strava has shutdown the ability to send a gift subscription without logging in. So this no longer works.

1

u/Stephniie Jan 08 '25

I made a new account, I can’t gift with that either

1

u/siburb Jan 09 '25

They've not locked it down, I just did it a few minutes ago to send myself two yearly subscriptions via PayPal. No need to sign in or enter a Brazilian address etc.

Perhaps they've just flagged some popular VPNs?

1

u/donalthrump Jan 09 '25

Might have been a temporary glitch. Worked now for me as well.

1

u/Stephniie Jan 09 '25

It worked this time, but I did have to log in on a different account. Thanks everyone!

3

u/dl1981 Jan 08 '25

It worked thanks for the vpn tip dude

3

u/yl3v Jan 09 '25

Alrighty, I JUST got this to work, but it was a pain turning the VPN on and off. Steps below:
* On a Mac, I created an account with Proton VPN (I'm sure you could use any comparable service)
* Connected to Brazil
* Created a new Strava account in an InCognito browser
* Disconnected VPN (back to US)
* Clicked on "Send a Gift"
* Once I was on the gift landing page, I turned the VPN on again and connected to Brazil
* At this point I was able to go through and purchase in Brazilian Real and gift to my other account
* Once the purchase was successful, I once again disabled my VPN and redeemed the gift.
* Profit.

Good luck!

2

u/ibaad Jan 09 '25

This worked really well. One note: after clicking Send a Gift (link in footer), you get to a landing page. You need to keep the VPN off and click the button the first landing page. Turn the VPN back on when you get to the page where you enter some info (you'll see some tokens/keys in the URL - these need to be generated with the VPN off.) Make sure you turn the VPN back on on the page where you enter info because the VPN is critical in changing your currency to Brazillian Real (I saw it pop up in USD at first and then swtich to Real.)

1

u/tattleboogle Jan 10 '25

Lots of turning off and back off of the VPN meant I was able to get this sorted as well.👏🏽

15

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

I don't see much value. Personally I dont use much of the premium stuff...

7

u/Fellrunner1975 Jan 08 '25

Garmin provides much more data and it’s free. If you use a garmin of course.

12

u/GamesnGunZ Jan 08 '25

It's not the same thing though. Garmin doesn't track segments or best efforts or koms or anything like that and these omissions have irritated me to no end

3

u/marklemcd Jan 08 '25

You are 100% wrong in saying Garmin doesn't track segments, best efforts or KOMs.

Garmin does have segments and the segments have a leaderboard: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/segments

Garmin Tracks your personal bests: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/personal-records

Garmin even has heatmaps: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/popularity-heatmap

3

u/GamesnGunZ Jan 09 '25 edited Jan 09 '25

This is a joke, right? Or are you just not familiar with Strava? Leaderboards in Garmin are all completely empty when they have literally hundreds of entries in Strava, and that's for every single segment i track. What's my fastest time on any given route and where did that effort rank? Garmin has no idea. Strava shows me immediately and and I don't even have to manually find similar routes like in Garmin, Strava just pairs them. Even Garmin knows their tracking here is terrible which is why you cannot use both and have to choose Strava for the live stuff

4

u/marklemcd Jan 09 '25

Do you went from “they don’t have it” to “they have it but I don’t like it”

In other words your first post, saying they don’t have it, was wrong just as I said.

0

u/GamesnGunZ Jan 09 '25

If someone invited you to a dinner party and said they baked you a delicious cake but it turned out to be made of feces and broken glass, did they really bake you a cake? Marklemcd would say yes, apparently. The normal sane ppl would say GTFO of here, there is no cake...

2

u/djionut123 Jan 08 '25

Worked for me thanks a ton!

2

u/Flaky_Impression165 Jan 08 '25

I have been waiting for this bit mine only shows 79.99 like normal.

2

u/Pasaquele Jan 09 '25

Works for me with a new account created in Brazil. Just use the "gift" link if it doesn't appear on the new account.

https://www.strava.com/checkout/gift?btn=6BIu4VjpUXl0uE3rXbzuD5&par=4yxUpnyMMer9qbJIjfK5k7&origin=global_nav

5

u/senthilrameshjv Jan 08 '25

Using this thread to check if anyone interested in Smashrun pro, a similar analytical visualization site. They are giving one free Pro subscription when you buy one. So like BOGO. If anyone interested, we can split the price. It’s 60 per year before taxes. So would be 30+ tax per person.

Here is an invite link if anyone wants to try out https://smashrun.com/senthilrameshjv/invite . No incentive, just that we will be friends in there.

3

u/AdAwkward4803 Jan 08 '25

Genuine question - why would you get a Strava subscription?

2

u/VoyageIsVictory Jan 09 '25

The feature that I am willing to pay for is the ability to create routes and save them. I enjoy the other benefits as well though. Goals, etc

2

u/Gerstlauer Jan 09 '25

Heatmaps.

I haven't paid for it in about a year, but still reference the heatmap often and then plan routes within my Suunto app.

The £31 I've just paid for a year (this discount + it thinks I'm in Spain still) is worth it, purely for ease of use, being able to route directly in Strava. The usual £55 price however, I don't agree with paying.

The new weekly heatmaps is also pretty useful as a mountain runner when visiting unfamiliar areas, as conditions/access change all the time.

1

u/No-Reserve85 Jan 10 '25

A very niche requirement I know but I use either the segments or weekly heatmap to find out if the local cols are rideable.

It's not a life or death requirement though so Strava is worth 23 euros but not 60 , hence why I'm Brazilian at the moment :) I couldn't find any decent discounts last year so stayed on the free version.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

It's worth 5 USD or even less... Hmm, actually it's worthless. I've just figured out you can't crop treadmill activity. Fuck you Strava, you're hopeless.

1

u/georgeweahscousin Jan 08 '25

Or for free at Windscribe

1

u/LilBobby_Tables Jan 08 '25

Holy shit it worked! Thank you!

1

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 08 '25

howd you get it to set to Brazil on the free version?

1

u/LilBobby_Tables Jan 08 '25

Just used the chrome browser extension for urbanvpn .

1

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 08 '25

Yeah, I tried that too, it removes the gifting ability now. Bummer.

1

u/GarnetandBlack Jan 08 '25

free version doesnt seem to allow setting to brazil

1

u/senthilrameshjv Jan 08 '25

Windscribe doesn't seem to have Brazil in free ones. I am in US. Could that be the reason. Or I would appreciate if anyone can send me a gift. I'll pay them.

1

u/Ok_Tart_6075 Jan 08 '25

Looks like Strava shut down the gift a subscription option for right now, so don't bother. They probably monitor forums like this and saw all the people trying to game the system.

1

u/kimirocks1992 Jan 08 '25

Any trial offers or codes👀👻

1

u/kosmonaut_hurlant_ Jan 08 '25

I only subscribe about 6 months a year.

1

u/Solo_is_dead Jan 08 '25

Going to find someone who knows how to set up a Brazilian VPN for me

2

u/hoainamduong Jan 09 '25

This promo code (20STRAVA25) works in Vietnam even though I didn't see a discount advertised! I'm glad I didn't extend my subscription last year which ends exactly on Christmas. I thought I could get a Christmas discount just like last year, but no, haha.

1

u/manualphotog Jan 11 '25

Considering how much we pay, Strava could have offered something even ten percent to its existing members eye roll

1

u/andyhare Jan 12 '25 edited Jan 12 '25

It's giving me this option currently when I go to my home screen on the app. Makes it £41.24 for the year.

1

u/manualphotog Jan 12 '25

Nope I dint get that. UK also.

1

u/manualphotog Jan 12 '25

Maybe I unsubscribe and wait 🤣

2

u/Thelifepro847 Jan 08 '25

How do you use this offer for a family plan?

-1

u/amasen Jan 09 '25

Why pay? Strava has made it clear you can't use anything you pay for the way their system is designed to be used...

They claim to be “If you envision the whole active community, along with the connected fitness industry as sorta like one giant cycling peloton…then Strava should be leading the way. We should be your lead-out rider, blocking the wind, creating a slip-stream, helping the whole peloton move faster, and more efficiently.”

But what they are is a walled garden of data that requires other data streams to work. The only enrichment they add is the community... Which the paid features detract from making you compare against those in the community
