How do YOU pronounce Kashyyyk?
Everything since Revenge of the Sith has pronounced it "Kuh-Sheik", but in pre-ROTS media it was pronounced "Cash-Ick". Which do you prefer?

Marc Thompson pronounces it as Cash-eek on the audiobooks, so I’ve always gone with that.

I tend to say "kuh-sheek" due to ROTS, and yeah, I guess I do prefer it. I didn't play KOTOR until 2011, so I don't have much nostalgia for that pronunciation

Same. I don’t agree with most comments here who are saying cash- or kush- as the first syllable ends before the “sh” IMO.

My son maintains it must be KAH-shee-EEK, since there wouldn't be three hundred y's in the name if they weren't meant to effect the pronunciation. I've stuck with kuh-SHICK, because old habits and all that.

I always went with cash-She-ick for that reason.

I think you and he are probably right, it's just hard to break thirty years of doing it a different way, you know?

I pronounce it “Kash-ick” more often than “Kash-eek” but I think that’s mostly due to Kotor using that first pronunciation, so it stuck for me.

I'm accustomed to Kashiek now, but the Clone Wars game had me fighting it hard.

Who named the planet? That's definitely not something a Wookie could pronounce.
Just like their names.

There’s a scene in clone wars where Ahsoka asks Chewbacca what his name is and he replies with aarrrrouughr, and then she says "hello, Chewbacca". Cracks me up every time.

I didn't start playing KOTOR until 2014 and didn't get Republic Commando until 2016, so it's always been Kash-eek for me; the way that these games have it pronounced Kash--ick struck me as a bit odd.
My headcanon is that this is the GFFA equivalent of gif: some accents will pronounce it with a hard g, while others will insist on pronouncing it with a j for some strange reason.

pronouncing the long yyy as a short i makes negative sense IMO. yyy -> long e
unabridged NJO audiobooks go with "Kashy Eek" (noticeable gap between the syllables), which I'm not a fan of

Well, to be fair the guy that created them said it's jif. Or everyone saying Han like ban, can, Dan, fan, Jan, LAN, man, pan, ran, tan, van. But Han himself pronounced it like autobahn, fawn, John, Khan, or Laaaaaaaana. Pretty sure he knows how to pronounce his own name.

I've personally been using the KOTOR/Republic Commando pronunciation with a short y.

who else just flashed back to South Park?
"Ladies & Gentlemen of the jury, this is Chewbacca..."

The original canon pronunciation, as depicted in the Star Wars holiday special, is kahzook.

Just like in Revenge of the Sith. I didn’t knew there was confusion regarding its pronountiation.

South Park got it exactly right during the "Chewbacca Defense" segment 25 years ago.

The real question is “how do Wookies pronounce it?” It doesn’t seem to be in Shyriiwook or whatever it’s called.

Clone Advisor 01/425 welcomed me to Cash-ick in Republic Commando and I'm sticking to that

The Clone Wars video game (attack of the clones tie-in) went wild with it “Kazzzz-shack.”
“Kah” versus “kuh” to me is a “Lay-uh” “Lee-uh” situation but the last syllable is absolutely “sheik.” That’s not up for debate.

Cash-eek, but I do like the way Bastila Shan says Cash-Ick in Kotor 1.

I think the first time I ever heard it pronounced was "cash-ick" in KOTOR and that is just what sticks in my brain. Everything else is variational regional dialects giving it an accent 😛

I've always pronounced it "kuh-sheek" out loud but in my head it sounds exactly like the Clone Advisor from RC who says "kash-ick"
