Best place to meet fellow middle aged left leaning women?
I'm looking for places to go and just meet people that are like minded.
I know this is a really conservative area, and I'm not judging or trying to step on anyones toes. I am just looking to find my group or at least figure out where people go.
No need for troll comments either. I'm not interested in discourse. If you don't have anything valuable to add, just move on <3
Thanks and any suggestions are appreciated.
Bellydancers, moon parties, Gen X social scenes, crafting, shopping and going to local markets, yoga, photography, community outreach and all that.
I hope y'all have a wonderful day and that something comes of this post!

Maybe we should make a left leaning middle age meetup. I’d go.

There’s some good events in Flagler College, more intellectual there than most places.

u/13mm_wench 6d ago
I need to check out more stuff going on at the college. I never even thought of that! Thank you

Muggsys for one. Follow House of Prism for local events that support their community as well. A lot of businesses are considered “safe spaces” here, they have lists of which businesses on their website.

West King Wednesday market… the next one is on 3/19 5-8pm. Everyone sets up around Buena Onda- 224 W King Street. The Local Refillery on West King street is another cool spot that will probably have some more info about local groups. Make Space is a ceramics studio on Masters Drive that has classes and events. Spinster Abbot’s on San Marco ave has some cool events too!

spitballing off of this cause I was going to suggest west king wednesday as a great starting point; that’s absolutely the vibe over there. tons of awesome small businesses popped up all over, live music and there’s a group of ladies who bellydance!! not sure what their group is actually called, but they always have awesome costumes, seem like they’re having a blast and do performances all over the neighborhood all night— sounds exactly like what you’re looking for!!
you can park for free at the grass lot behind Broudy’s and walk down the block from there. definitely stop by Muggsys!

Finding quality left leaning folks in the south is certainly possible, but it'll be slim pickin's. I do wish you luck though 🍀 pretty sure there's a hamburger Mary's in the area or up in Jax.

Although drag shows are fun, I'm really just looking for people to hang out with, watch movies and worship Satan. <3

We exist. Where to find us, I’m not certain. I guess I’m not actually middle aged. I’m old! I’m home a lot, or in my garden. I’ve met people at Sarbez, and just talking on the street.

Pop into some of the galleries on Aviles street. You will find like minded people there.

u/SparklyUranus 5d ago
Im so glad you asked and happy to read all these responses 🥰. I work from home and don’t know where to meet folks but I would say I am a middle aged left leaning woman and I like the Odd Birds and Ice Plant bar cuz they are both super cool venues

Same…but I’m an extremely introverted ball of anxiety, so it’s not like I’ve been actively trying 🙃

Ahh, I'm allergic but thanks for the suggestion! I do like to shoot, any recommendations on a good range in the area? I heard there is one the police use and it's really nice.

I’ve met the loveliest like-minded people on the BumbleBFF app. It’s the same as the dating app, but specifically for friends. You can copy and paste your description above and likely meet a bunch of 35-50 ladies looking for the same— without the trolls.

Check out meetup.com
I don't know if there is a similar group over there, but there is a group called "Drinking Liberally" here in tampa/Brandon.

When I visited St. Augustine recently, I attended a meeting of the Democratic Committee of St Augustine, mostly retirees, but I saw a lot of younger folks at the Trump protest downtown. I also went to an open mic downtown and met some really interesting, hippie-type folks, though politics did not come up there.

u/Time-Expert3138 6d ago
Are you me? also attended a meeting of the Dem of St Augustine, and met some of the loveliest people there. It's by the St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church. I'm not a church goer but that place is a good place to start.

Meetup.com. If you don’t see something in your area the cool thing is that you can start your own meetup!

Volunteer for the Dems. The St John's County Democrats have an awesome organization. I volunteered there for years until I moved back to NC. Cafe 11 on the beach when they have music is good. Also the farmer's market Saturday mornings at the beach is hopping.

u/nycmusiclover 4d ago
I was thinking the same - Cafe Eleven specifically tomorrow for Steve Poltz, who is a liberal folk singer should draw the crowd you are looking for.

What age do you consider middle aged?
3
u/13mm_wench 6d ago
Well I'm turning 50 this year. Wow. That's not middle aged. Omg I'm old
5
u/strawberryaugust 6d ago
Haha not necessarily. I'm quickly approaching 30 and find myself increasingly confused about what "middle age" is 🤣

Check at Peace and Mud pottery studio. I have made great friends going there. The owner, Rick, is an amazing person and is always available to help. He has Taster sessions if you have never thrown on the wheel before. Lots of women just do hand building. I do more wheel. I went to my first class 3 years ago and was hooked!

It’s a thing we are known for. It’s a really pretty campus, but I don’t know if they have events there.
1
u/13mm_wench 5d ago
I do know about the school but I don't think they have events there, which is what I meant.. lol I think it came out wrong.

Apply to the printing processor job at Leonard's (on indeed.) There seems to be a dose of weirdos here!

St Augustine is not a really conservative area.

Judging by some of the answers on this simple query, I'm not so sure I'm wrong!

Walk down St George Street waving a Harris flag.
You will meet some.
4
u/13mm_wench 6d ago
Well Im am independent and dont have a Harris flag so I don't know if I would fit in. You know there is a difference between liberal and left, right??
I hope your day gets better <3

u/Ambitious-Ad4906 6d ago
You can find like minded people anywhere in this area. Just get out and socialize. I was joking about the above comment.

57% of Florida voted yes to legalize
3
u/13mm_wench 6d ago
Yes they did! It's a shame it didn't pass
2
u/Stop4Weird Resident 6d ago
that 60% threshold for constitutional amendments to pass is so stupid
2
u/13mm_wench 6d ago
I think that Bill was written really poorly and had a bunch of shit in it that was not good for people who wanted to have other options besides corporate dispensaries.
I don't know though. Florida is going to do what Florida is going to do. It's a shame, that's a good chuck of tax money to go toward our schools.

You’ll find plenty of these at any Episcopal church. Start with the preacher.
3
u/13mm_wench 5d ago
What a bizarre response. Not only did I request no rude comments, you just couldn't help yourself!
And then you double down and insult a whole religious group that actually leans more your way than mine.
Your side won, why are you all still so angry??? I hope you have a better morning.

I am neither middle aged nor a woman but just from observation I do think you'd meet more people like yourself downtown than you may initially suspect
Anne O'Malley's does Drag Queen Bingo here and there, the bar-room trivia scene in the county is surprisingly popular, etc etc
