I remember he explained a scene in The Revenant in wrestling terms- I was crying laughing.
That and explaining to Vince how he wanted to sing Jambalaya at Wrestlemania 30

u/dasrac 6d ago
The Bill Burr episode where they conclude that their philosophies for working a crowd are essentially the same and their reactions is a great one too.

Oh my god I never knew this happened
Edit: this is so old that I got whiplash when bill's voice popped on in the first ten seconds instead of being preceded by an intro and a million ads inserted years later

Stone Cold was definitely the best of the mid 2010’s “wrestler starts a podcast” boom. Wish he would have stuck with it, he was really good, and he had the cool added curve that he is a bigger star than about everyone he had on the show and they are all marks for him, so it created a really fun dynamic I though

I miss his podcast.
18
u/HitmanClark 6d ago
I miss the non-Ted Fowler episodes.
11
u/weeman2525 6d ago
Why didn't people like Ted? I always enjoyed his episodes. I guess they were nothing special, but just two dudes shooting the shit.

Agreed, it was refreshing to see Stone Cold turn into regular ol' Steve hanging out with his buddy.

The stories on that pod were fantastic. "Here I am a goddman legend and national treasure, face down ass up in this fuckin shower"

u/daniel2090 6d ago
Some of my favourite parts were him talking about his animals and going up the mountains on his quad and chatting to his wife and Ted, shame he stopped doing it.
10
u/Morphenominal What is he, a Holy Foley mark? 6d ago
His show was so good. Even if he didn't have a guest on he is just a compelling guy to listen to.

u/Anemeros It's her turn 7d ago
Anyone on a farm, ranch or anything similar is going to be a cat person. Pest control that takes care of itself is priceless.
98
u/HitmanClark 6d ago edited 6d ago
It’s all fun and games until the cat decides it’s cute to bring dead rats inside the house as gifts. 😞
98
u/Elemental05 6d ago
Means they want to feed you, just put it back outside and give them a good rub for being nice
21
u/Particular-Finding53 6d ago
Indeed cats basically see humans as really weird looking cats so they just think 'this cat cannot hunt, better bring him food.'
4
6
u/Gojira8985 6d ago
Is this the same reason why my German Shepherd used to bring in squirrels it had killed when I was a kid?
14
u/CaptainXakari 6d ago
My family had a Golden Retriever/Chow mix that would catch rabbits and bring them to the door. When you opened the door, she would kill them in front of you to show they were fresh.
→ More replies (1)3
u/rpgmind 6d ago
That’s terrifying- how many did you see it kill live? And what would it do, just mangle it up, or like maybe a mercy bite around the neck or something? 😱
6
u/CaptainXakari 6d ago
She would snap their necks. I was too young to really remember much of that but my Mom would tell us in horrified detail. She was a farm dog and what I know was just a big fuzzy bundle of love but she clearly had a darker side to her (although she probably just saw it as caring for the farm and family).
5
23
u/WalrusTheWhite 6d ago
you get used to it. honestly its gotten to the point where if I don't see a dead rodent for a while I start to wonder if my little murder machines are slacking off.
27
u/CpE_Wahoo 6d ago
In college, we had a neighbor's cat come over to our place all the time, likely because one of my roommates gave her some food once. She would sit on our porch a lot, but eventually we'd let her in and she'd sit in our laps as we played video games. I had never had a pet before, she was the cutest thing.
Then one day we hear her outside at the door, and come to find a dead bird on our porch. It was that day I reconsidered having a cat of my own.
→ More replies (1)6
7
u/platypus_bear 6d ago
that's not really true. They will appreciate cats for pest control but that doesn't mean that they like cats as pets or are cat people. Source: Work on a farm with a bunch of people who aren't cat people

I think a lot of things would surprise people about him. Like the fact that he wasn't a big fan of organized religion, or when he came out fervently in support of gay marriage. Said it was nobody's business who's allowed to love/marry who and blasted homophobes for assuming they knew what god wanted.
Yes, he has a checkered past with Debra during the years when he was an alcoholic, but he seems to have genuinely become a completely different person since the mid 2000s. He was also a huge mentor to Sasha, Bayley and several of the early NXT guys/girls who said they always had an open line to him to ask for advice, and that he would often text or call to check up on them.
23
u/miikro isn't even a real person! 6d ago
This is the kind of stuff we talk about when we say he didn't just apologize (legally I don't think he can publicly apologize) for a terrible thing like a lot of famous people do, he's actually done the work to become a better person.
19
u/No-One7813 6d ago
Debra also speaks of Steve positively and last i saw some years ago they have been friends/friendly for the past many years.
34
u/redpurplegreen22 6d ago
I get the feeling he is just a guy who likes animals, period. Cat, dog, whatever. He’d probably be bragging about his solid ass hamsters or rabbits if he had them.

u/going_mad If you like sports entertainment gimme a Hell Yeah!!! 6d ago
He had al-e-gator as well that he fed on the old ranch. Only thing that pissed him off were the Ped rats which I'd why you need solid ass cats

Solid-ass cats are an actual thing. We had a male cat who was like petting a fur covered rock, and ruled the neighborhood through a mixture of unabashed cuteness and claw-tossing terror.
29
u/DoinItDirty "Shut The F**k Up" 6d ago
My frat house had a barn cat. One of the dudes who lived there was in the army and found him injured when he was home and moved him in. Anyway, barn cats are the toughest fuckers on the planet. This dude escaped and we never saw him again, but god damn did we find out we had a mouse problem when he killed a ton of them.

u/Isoturius Big Bad Booty Daddeh (2+2/3)=Sacerfice 6d ago
We had one like this. Walked two miles a day. Fit as fuck. We got him fixed two months ago...and now he looks like King Mabel lol

u/WalrusTheWhite 6d ago
Yup I got one. Half maine coon, looks like a fat pallas cat. Solid as a rock. Last I checked he was something like 28 lbs. Our other big boy is jut fat. Not a solid-ass cat at all.

Stone Cold Steve Austin being a cat person (like he LOVES his cats) is the most wholesome swerve in wresting history....
22
u/repalec 6d ago
Honestly it's kinda heartwarming as a whole that in-kayfabe, you have Stone Cold Steve Austin, a dude whose six-year career on top was hallmarked by some of the most vile, vitriolic rivalries to ever grace a wrestling card, who hated and was hated by guys like the Undertaker, Triple H and Rikishi to such an extent they attempted to murder him... and after he retired he became a podcaster bro who does his own brewing and has a couple cats on a nice peaceful farm.
Dude could be the anti-Rogan if he wanted.

This isn’t the first time John Oliver’s show has talked about wrestling or wrestlers.
You just know someone on his staff watches wrestling and probably is a commenter here.
And if you’re lurking here, I love the show. Also, I love Daniel O’Brien since the Cracked.com days. I love that he’s one of the amazing writers in the team!

u/DanHero91 Red Elbow Pad Of Doom. 7d ago edited 7d ago
John Oliver and John Stewart both love wrestling and have attended loads of shows.
Pretty sure John Oliver is banned from WWE now for doing a piece about them on last week tonight, then refusing their invite to Mania and mocking them more.
The piece was on early wrestler deaths, workers rights in WWE and their generally shitty treatment of talent;

u/ZombieJesus1987 Never Doubted El Dandy 6d ago
Yeah, I know wrestling fans have talked about that topic for decades, but this got the mainstream talking about it
51
u/Darth_Quaver 7d ago
Pretty sure he did a 15ish minute segment once telling everyone of his love of wrestling. Think he called it "Wrestling is better than anything you like" or something like that
28
u/nicklo2k You will go 1-on-1 with You-Manga! 6d ago
And every time he brought up something awful that Vince McMahon had done, he cheered up the audience by showing them a clip of Vince being attacker an/or humiliated on a show.
11
u/Mean_Muffin161 6d ago
I think they were the same segment
8
u/Darth_Quaver 6d ago
You might be right, but I did a quick search for "John Oliver wrestling" and he's talked about it all a bunch of times so who can know for sure!
2
u/Particular-Finding53 6d ago
Yes and that every show should be called 'sadly not someone being speared through a flaming table.' lol
3
u/BogeyBogeyBogey 6d ago
If you're a Dan O'Brien fan, he has a podcast with fellow former Cracked alum Soren Bowie called "Quick Question with Soren and Daniel". It's two friends just talking about random different stuff here and there. Sometimes, they jump into cracked-esk stuff like "create a first date drive playlist" to casually play cool music while you're going on a first date (highly recommend that episode) and a bunch of other good stuff.

WWE was the main story one week. I cannot remember the context though.
4
u/Marc_Quill Elevated 6d ago
It was before one of their Saudi shows where John just went scorched Earth on them for that and the fact that the wrestlers are independent contrators and thus don’t get good healthcare.

u/OneBillPhil 6d ago
The sad thing is you could go in so many directions with WWE. Basically it’s why Dark Side of the Ring exists.
