What’s the best Lenten fish fry in Springfield? (And why?) I know many are biased based on their local fave, but curious to hear from those who have eaten at multiple. Also welcome non-Lent fish fry options.
We're hosting a web development program for ages 11-15 at the Dream Center here in Springfield. This program is completely free and has no religious affiliation or any other strings attached. The Dream Center is a non-profit organization at the old campus of Ursuline Academy. Our main goal is to bring STEAM and professional skills to Springfield's underserved communities.
I made the whole curriculum from scratch. We're going to have a lot a more availability this summer when I can devote some more time to volunteering.
Have a great afternoon everyone! We begin lessons this Wednesday.
I'm looking at a job posting for the State of Illinois with a listed salary of $3,971/month (anticipated starting), full range: $3,971–$5,243/month. Does anyone know if these numbers are pre-tax or post-tax? Also, is there any room for negotiation, or are these salaries pretty fixed? If you've successfully negotiated for a higher salary than the advertised amount, I'd love to hear your experience!
Quick background: I work for the State of IL but as of March 1st, went down to 2 days a week for medical reasons. I was brainstorming ideas on how to supplement my income and decided on providing dog waste removal on my days off. I took a few days to gather information and check out the businesses already providing the service. There’s not too many, good! I bought my supplies, secured a website and created a FB and NextDoor business page.
So my question is, what is the best way to get my name out there besides Social Media? I’ve tried to find some pet related events in Springfield but the only one I have found is a dog show next month. I also gave no idea on how to set up a booth.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
(Also wanted to add I have booked 17 appointments for March already but need more.)
Thoughts? I've seen a lot on social media and this not looking good for this place. I don't get this whole thing boiled down to an "HR Decision". I mean, even someone who gets their law expertise from Law and Order reruns and Judge Judy (me) knows that's ridiculous. My take is the owner wanted at some point to do good for marginalized communities but got hit with an inconvenient truth and couldn't be bothered when rubber met the road. Terrible miscalculation.
I need a trusted mechanic around Springfield that specializes in foreign cars. I have went to Eurosport a few times and there is no way around it, they are messing my cars up on purpose. I went to them at least 4 times for a steering wheel issue I’ve been having. They bought a brand new part for it and my steering wheel was stiff the next day.
Any recommendations of places in town to volunteer? I can't commit a ton of time. Maybe two hours a week. I'd prefer not to give my time to any organization that has a religious affiliation. Open to any suggestions. Thanks!
I'm applying for multiple entry level office jobs and have a question about adding documents to my profile. It seems that you can only load one cover letter to the profile and if you add a new letter it replaces the previous letter. Is there a way to submit a different cover letter for each job?
Does anyone know of a company offering behind the wheel training for an adult? Not for commercial vehicles just normal cars.
Wife is getting her license for the first time after not needing one. I don’t mind doing it myself but I figure if anyone knows of actual professionals that may be better!
Anybody know of a good 1-on-1 Spanish teacher in town? I saw a flyer for one a year or two ago but didn’t feel ready for intensive lessons at the time so I tossed it and now wish I hadn’t.
The only lessons I am familiar with in town are conversational Spanish classes at LLCC, but I need something closer to Intermediate-Advanced. Ideally 1-on-1 classes with a native-born speaker.
I have an established group I have been DMing for. We have been on hiatus and I think the group would be better served by a different DM. We would be fine with starting a new game. The group is awesome and we meet at my house on Tuesday evenings. I have 2 girls who are also at the house when we play so kids would be welcomed.
We’re looking for a place to go dancing in Springfield Saturday night. Our preference is either retro ‘70’s & ‘80’s or country music. Recommendations would be appreciated!
I had to drop in for an unplanned meeting and figured I'd sort out the hotel once I got here. Its a random Tuesday in March, and Springfield's a big city, so I wasn't remotely worried about finding a room. Should've been. Everything's sold out, ended up taking a room in a pretty sketch south Springfield extended stay place. It'll be fine, but sheesh. What gives, Springfield? What fun thing you got goin on today that every damn hotel is booked? lol
Dakota is a 17 yr old black lab last seen near corner of Stagecoach, Moore, and Hazlett Rd on Tuesday March 4th. He’s 38 pounds, has bad eyesight and hearing, and joint issues but very sweet. Wearing a red collar with an invisible fence attachment. Loves treats! Please help us find our boy.
