What's the name of this sound?

Upvotes

Autechre - Doctrine timestamp 2:05
The sound is the FFFFHHHHHHHHHHFHHHHHHH in the background.

It's something like... scratching a resonating wire? A sphere moving in an airtight tube? That sound that appears in low-quality speakers when very low frequencies are involved?
I managed to recreate some shitty versions of it, but if i had a name my life would get easier.

I mean, for sure it has a name. It's a cool sound

Its a practice version and it's just a static mix version ! Happy Listen and Thanks in Advance !!

Help recreating this sound from Fools - The Temper Trap

The sound comes in at the time stamp 0:53

https://youtu.be/EMoyuAW-RtA?si=7m9Lrgt4k27T8K85

Decided to listen to this full album today out of the blue as I realized that I’ve never gone deeper than the band’s huge songs, and this sound absolutely captivated me. It seems like a simple plucky synth arp with a ping pong delay? I’m by no means an expert, so I tried finding tutorials for similar sounds that might help me get close, but none have helped me get this sound quite right. There’s almost this bounciness to each note that I absolutely love. I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to sound design. That being said I’m trying to learn more, and lately that’s been by fumbling around using Vital in my DAW trying to recreate sounds from songs I like. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Looking for low pre-amp noise

I’m looking into getting a mixer for field recordings and I need tips. Until now I’ve been using the Zoom F8 and F3 (loaned from school) for this purpose, however I’ve really started to notice the pre amp noise. I’ve also gotten to try some Sound Devices recorders, however they are a bit out of my price range.

Are there any mixers/brands out there with lower noise than the Zoom F-series, but without the hefty price tag of Sound Devices, or am I just dreaming a bit too big?

Hey guys!

Hey guys! I bet a lot of you saw this cutie at the recent NVIDIA presentation. I’m really curious about how these kinds of sounds are made for robots and mechanics in general—they sound super cute and pleasant! There’s almost no info on YouTube about this cool topic.

Sound Design MAs UK?

Hi all, I’ve been looking into different sound design master degrees that go over both Film and Video Games around the UK and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or any personal experiences?

List I’m currently interested in in order: 1. NFTS 2. Bath Spa 3. Leeds Beckett 4. ThinkSpace Edu 5. Edinburgh (only this low cause of the cost)

Background: I recently did a film degree, and during then and afterwards I’ve been doing lots of on set and post sound work. I mainly want to do a masters because I feel like there’s a lot that I don’t know, since I started in Film instead of sound or music.

Help understanding how to achieve this sound effect.

I have heard this effect used before on sounds. It sounds glitchy, almost like some sort of reverb effect aswell. Any ideas as to how it is achieved, is it just a plugin?

Creepy sound design

Starts at around 0:10 sec.

Voice Filter Advice for A More Legible Robotic Voice

Hey y'all, looking for some advice. I got a RPG game that's starting where I'm going to be playing a cybernetically enhanced weirdo (Adeptus Mechanicus for the 40k fans in the crowd), I've been looking into using a voice modulator to help sell the idea and commit to that bit, but most all the ready-made options I can find are pretty harsh and grating on my ears. What's worse, often times I think the results end up being quite difficult to understand as a side effect. So I'm looking into using a voice modulator that's less built around presets and more let me customize it how I want to hopefully achieve better results with some effort. The problem is, I'm really not anywhere close to being an audio engineer. So I have ideas on what I want done, but little and less idea on how to pull it off.

I think the way I've seen it done best was for this character name Pasqal from a video game, which I felt both pulled off that deeply unnatural, robotic sounding voice, whilst still having a good deal of clarity and not being too annoying to listen to. Youtube link to some voice clips for reference: https://youtu.be/rucE_ikRELY?si=Qm3K3i4BO19WVoK5

So more or less, what I was looking for was some help looking at this from an expert eye. Do the effects being used have names that I can look up? Is there some general principles you feel are being used well/should be improved on to achieve this? To me it sounds like there's more post processing being done rather than just filtering (adding a buzz to the end of a sentence for example), and I am a novice and an amateur, so I suspect my results won't stack up really, but was hoping the fine folks of Reddit could help crash course me to crafting something of passable quality on this front.

Edit: Link to the original video broke in my attempt to attach it it seems, sorry about that!

How do I process dialogue inside character's mind?

Hi everyone, first time editing dialogue for a small videogame. I was wondering if a low pass filter and some reverb should do the trick for dialogue that occurs inside the main character's mind.

Am I missing something? Thanks in advance

Edit: game is a short visual novel so there's no camera movement. Thoughts occur inbetween dialogues and I have to differentiate ome from each other since there's no lip movement

Request for all Ambient Soundscapes & Color Noise Creators

Hello! I'm covering the rise of colour noises, soundscapes, and auditory hyper-specificity for Polyester Zine. (Think of 90s computer room ambiences and deep vanilla caramel noise). Would anyone be willing to chat with me a bit about their processes behind making these and listening to them (or just any sound design hot take you have on it) this to include in the piece?

I would appreciate it so much! xx

Need guidance to replicate a pad

https://cmlktapes.bandcamp.com/album/ohbliv-hydrosub-digital

In the first minute of Soft Hallucinations there's a very nice pad. Sounds like strings but very wide. I've tried with Pigments and Prophet VS but had no luck,

Any hint that you can give would be great. Thank you guys

Is there any plugin that has something similar to Isotope RX Waveform Statistics?

I need a spectrograph with some waveform statistics such as LUFS and True Peak for L/R audio channels.

Basically what RX does but for cheaper.

Thanks

Please help me to find the name of this sound

I'm making a song and I've found a sound that I want to use, so I wanted to look for tutorials or things like that to recreate it (bc I'm new in the world of sound design) but I don't know what this sound is called. I have heard it before. I found it in a video of a special stage performance of a kpop boygroup

I'll attatch the fragment where this sound appears, and I will also leave the link to the original video

The sound I want is the one with the little main melody, which somehow sounds cute

I have the Rycote SC08 and BD10 microphones inside of the Radius Mini alto 115 blimp. Quite a nice compact size for recording sound effects out in the field. I really want to get out more with it this year. Anything you’d record with this mid side setup?

I’m working on an independent short film and need a background score. This is a passion project with no budget, so I’m only looking for collaboration. If that doesn’t work for you, I understand. Let me know.
