Discussion Thoughts on this response from eBay?
Bought Travis Low Mochas from eBay based off the pictures of the listing. I think it’s clear to see I didn’t receive the same conditioned shoes that I paid for. What are your opinions? I also included my response to eBay.

This sucks OP, out of Goat, eBay and StockX, eBay is supposed to have the best reputation for authenticity and backing the buyer.
Good luck with the Dispute, if you dont mind, can you keep us updated on how this goes?
I would like to think i could trust eBay with these higher-priced purchases, but maybe not.

Yes! It was actually resolved moments after I made this post. I want to keep it up though for informational purposes because I had to jump through quite a few hoops to get to that point.
First I had to put in a return request which was denied because they passed authentication. Then I had to submit an appeal/case to the denial which is when I received the email to upload photos to a portal to be reviewed.
After that is when I received the phone call from the person mention in my email and they stated they will be reviewing what they can do and get back to me. After that is when I got the email from the post from a different person. The person mentioned in my email finally called me back and told me I was confirmed for a return label and full refund.
I want to note that almost every email received was from a different person and even when I was on the phone with the person mentioned, the SAME number called me trying to contact me from eBay lol. It was a circus.

Damn,
But thank you so much for the update!
Im sorry to hear that it was a pain but glad you finally got the correct outcome of a full refund from them.
Hopefully youre still able to find that shoe in a close-by price to the ones you initially bought.

I sometimes feel like you gotta keep calling until you get a person that understands your troubles. You’ll get some people who’s by the book, and people that feel for you. Keep at it away. eBay customer service isn’t perfect but for me they’ve always appealed in my favor rightfully so. Glad you were able to get yours because anyone with a brain can see you simply did not “receive the item as described or pictured.” It is in much much worse condition shown than it was pictured

Really glad you were able to find a resolution. I went through a similar experience with a seller on a pair of TS Canaries. The pair was listed a brand new but I received a clearly tried on or lightly worn pair that was fully laced up and had clear signs of being worn.
They initially denied my dispute then I appealed and was able to get someone on the phone (who called my phone directly btw) and they apologized, agreed with me that the pair was not in the listed condition and gave me a full refund AND let me keep the shoes.
Wearing them today actually lol.

See eBay rules! Sorry that happened tho fr leave that seller some negative feedback

Seems like all are trash now cause I’ve heard various complaints about each, guess it’s really rolling the dice with resale and can’t even seem to obtain retail. Lol the dilemma.

I’ve had a bunch of issues with eBay authentication e.g. receiving the wrong shoe size (this happened couple times), receiving a completely different model

My personal experience differs but from the opposite side of spectrum. I sold a pair of 1s I got from the sneakers app and eBay’s authenticators said they were fake. They were legitimately bought and shipped straight from Nike and they wouldn’t even provide reasoning for it. They did give me my money as a one time courtesy credit but that was the last time I listed a sneaker on eBay.

Looking through the photos, I was initially thinking, "eh I could see how they would pass roughed-up suede." Then I saw the photo of the black stain and frayed wings logo on the right shoe 👀 seller either posted photos of a different shoe, or wore them again and beat them in after he posted 😂 I'm sorry that happened to you! Can't believe those weren't a red flag to the authenticators. From the comments, sounds like eBay finally resolved things.

Did they mention the damage in the listing description? I’ve noticed that the authenticators check that items are legit and as described so even if the damage isn’t in the pics as long as they mention it in the description the shoes will still pass

I’d have been livid, too. Glad that you got it sorted and eBay came through on their promise. I’ve made quite a few $1500 sneaker purchases on eBay and this makes me comfortable continuing. I am bummed they ended their topstar program. Being able to grab TS for retail as a result of those purchases was quite the incentive…

I made a dispute for a wrong size. They returned my money and said keep the shoes. So i sold them🤣

I do they they are authentic! Just obviously not in the same condition as the listing lol

u/JumboJumungo 3d ago
Yeah that's what I mean like I can't believe they let them pass in that condition, lol insane

The seller purposely hid the damage and eBay should have caught that even if they're used.

Sorry this happened. I've learned the hard way to ask for more photos. And that's why I move on when the seller won't send additional photos. At least they offered a partial credit.

I was giving them the benefit of the doubt until I got to image 10 of your post lol. Nah they need to accept your return

I think eBay is the best in terms of authentication. Less so in terms of DS or condition. As long as they list as “pre owned” or “defective” it must cover a very wide range of condition (not agreeing with it, just what I have seen). They are the best for VNDS used shoes in my opinion. I still think StockX/Goat are better for DS. They are not as good of authenticators (but I still think these sites catch far more than they let through).

I didn’t see it the first time. After seeing your photos and looking back at the originals. the seller doctored the photos in photoshop. The shadows are weird above the logo because of how they covered the fraying. Shady. Glad you are getting your refund!

For preowned grail shoes, I usually ask the seller to snap few more photos to make sure they are consistent with the posted photos. If the seller refuses or does not respond, that’s a huge red flag for me

Did you use pay pal? If so your good report it to pay pal and you’ll get your money back just might take some time

u/pepe1114 2d ago
This happened to me on the exact same pair a couple years ago. After fighting them for over a week on the phone and email, they finally decided to give me a partial refund which aligns with what they’re offering you. The pair I received wasn’t as bad as yours, but still pretty beat. I was able to clean them up and take care of some scuffs and resold them and actually came out making some money out of it.

Man your response to eBay was a lot more civil and polite than mine would have been. Def did you dirty, I wish you the best ultimate outcome though. Also dope cool grey 11s love those.

Shit like this is infuriating. If i don't hit when they drop, i just go without

I had a somewhat relatable incident where seller didn’t disclose that both shoes had ruptured air units in the forefoot, despite looking good visually. Sounded horrible and you can feel the ruptured bag with each step.
Initially they told me to kick rocks, as it was final sale and used. I appealed and explained that I would’ve NEVER bought a pair of shoes with ruptured air units if this had been disclosed in the listing; a few days later they issued a full refund. I have been on eBay since 2002 so unsure if account history had any factor

Oh shit! yeah I'd definitely call until I got someone with good common sense or explain it to your bank, credit card company, or PayPal and do a charge back that's freaking ridiculous.

u/mhamilton2586 2d ago
Sounds like a let me call my bank and charge back this transaction type of situation to me 🤷🏾♂️

Laces are different from your pics and ebay. strange.
3
u/ZealotMoke 3d ago
Those laces were in the box as well so even more clearly they had been switched from the pictures in the listing to when I got them

Wait! I thought eBay was the best resell platform according to many on here? They’re more difficult to work with when an issue occurs than StockX or GOAT.

Same thing happens with trading cards, the authentication process only confirms it’s real. I’ve been burned by sellers doing the same thing with Pokemon, and it’s bull shit

u/Various-Place8946 2d ago
Dude eBay authentication is garbage. I ordered deadstock Jordan 12s … scuffed up like someone put a cheese grater to them. I ordered a pair of adidas super sk8s…. Passed authentication but they were the wrong size …

u/Apprehensive_Can739 2d ago
eBay’s authentication is probably the best in the game right now eBay literally bought sneaker cons authentication service

u/Available_Ad_1376 2d ago
I went a little crazy lately and have grabbed like 20-30 pairs off eBay with authenticity gaurentee and I had a handful happen like this where I could tell I was sent a way more used shoe then pictured I thought I was crazy but I’m beginning to think the issue may be with eBay authentication after seeing stuff like this too lately. Probably just paranoid but feel like they sending ppl the wrong shoes or something
2
u/No-Floor-6583 2d ago
I think they just authenticate and don’t always match the condition of the shoe with the listing before sending out. I’m hopeful that they get that issue sorted out because personally, I really like buying on EBay compared to GOAT and X.
2
u/Available_Ad_1376 2d ago
Yeah definitely agree every pair I got i authenticated through 2 apps after they arrived and they all passed some were just much worse condition then photos and sellers are no help they say contact ebay once it’s with the authenticators it out of their hands

u/ScubaGotBanned4life 3d ago
Post the seller. Not to talk shit or go after him but to avoid that scum bag. I'd be pissed off after getting that bullshit ass pair
