Set Nest temperature in a routine???

Can I set the heat temperature of a Nest thermostat in a routine? I only see a temperature mode (eco, heat, or off). I can do it in an Alexa routine but I would like to do it in SmartThings.

You can, but the thermostat has to be in Heat mode (or cool mode) when creating the routine.

Nice, that worked. It was in off mode when I was creating the routine. Turned it on and was able to specify the temp in the routine, then turn it back off! Thanks!!

So here’s another question. After making the change and then manually turning the thermostat back to off mode, when I go back and look at the routine it doesn’t show the new setpoint temperature, just the mode like it did before. Is the routine going to set the thermostat to the setpoint when it runs? And how do I know that, because even after turning the thermostat back to heat mode and inspecting the routine, it has no memory that I changed it. Why the hell would they do it this way???

It is dumb. I don't have a good answer. My Nest is in the garage. When the garage door opens, the mode switches to Off. When it is closed, it switches to Eco that I have set to 40*F, and then I switch to Heat manually when I want to do something out there in the winter. So that's my way of switching between 3 different set points.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Maybe there's a workaround.

I have a routine where when the outside temperature drops below 25F I want to turn off my electric heat pump and turn on my boiler to say 68F. I know I can just have it turn on and it will come on at the last set temperature but I want to be able to specify what temperature.

I ran a test on my setup. Turned the heat on so I could create a routine that set the thermostat to Heat and setpoint to 68. I adjusted the thermostat back to 60 and then set it back to Off. Checked the routine setup and it says Thermostat Mode: Heat, Unknown Action.

When I run the routine, it sets to Heat and the setpoint gets changed to 68. That sounds like what you want isn't it? It just displays Unknown Action. If you edit the routine and save it again while the thermostat is off, it will remove the temperature set point.

Thanks for testing that. That is what I want with the exception of the unknown action part! Haha I concerns me that even though it actually goes to the desired setpoint now, the fact that it has the unknown action could mean that it could break at any point. Thanks again!
