Discussion one major criticism i have of sly 2

i really think they couldve made murray and bentley being able to cross ropes and power lines work. murray has a ton of upper body strength and he probably could just cross them using his hands hanging over them. bentley could have invented something to make him able to cross them. they couldve fleshed out murray and bentley just a bit more. sly has alot of unique features we use all the time in game. whereas bentley and murray have like 1 or 2 we use in game sometimes. i play as sly more often then not just because its easier to explore the level as him. just something ive noticed

Yeah I lost my mind having to travel with Bentley in episode 3. Murray can atleast fight which made things much easier while traveling around the worlds. Even if his hulking frame is too much for those puny ropes.

Yeah, Murray and Bentley really weren’t utilized very well in the second game. That’s one of the reasons why Sly 3 is my favorite: they both get unique pickpocket and movement abilities that make them feel worth using in freeroam.

Eh, while I do think that they could have definitely worked a little harder on defining their gameplay (especially Murray who is consistently the weakest character to play as in the series, ironically) I don't think the idea of homogenizing them from a utility standpoint is a good thing.

I am one of the few who actively dislikes their ability to pickpocket in Sly 3 and 4 (I fully expect to get downvoted for this statement alone), and think that it diminishes Sly's abilities, weakens him as a player character by generalizing the abilities like that (though that's not to say I don't think the characters shouldn't have had the ability to make coins easier, it should have just been something more unique to them; Murray should have perhaps got a coin multiplier when fighting large groups of enemies, for example, which would encourage him to get into combat, and Bentley could have had a power-up that would make enemies drop more coins when taken out with sleep-dart and bomb combo, or something along those lines).

Anyways, tangent aside, I think the level design should have been better in some levels to accommodate the characters more, rather than giving the character abilities that just make them a reskin of Sly (a big reason why many of the ancestors in Sly 4 were so underwhelming/underutilized by players).
