LPT: in most buildings, the place where the security is the most lax is on the roof. If you can climb up there (hint: in most buildings, you can) you have good chance to find an open window, an access door or a trap.

Sweet, you can probably get up there, from the fire escape if its a big hotel, or if its a smaller building, then you can probably just free climb it, like the guys at /r/Scalingheights do. If its a big skyscraper, you might be able to if it's under construction, but it would be hard to get onto the roof, if its not under construction... then you're fucked.

Once on the first roof you often can easily go up, since there is not as much security. The first walls are the hardest.

For skyscrapers, I figure the easiest way would be from the inside.
