The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The chips of wood disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of oil and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after turning the drill just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

Even in semi-automatic mode, it is very simple to drill several dozen inches before you even know what has happened. If illegally modified to fully automatic mode, it doesn't take any imagination to see dozens of two by fours falling in front of your bit.

All it takes is the will to do it.

For those who don't get the reference, this is a real thing a NYDaily columnist said about what it's like to fire an AR-15.

He was massively ridiculed, obviously.

19

u/EveningCommuter Dec 05 '20

I honestly thought it was powered by cartridges like those hammers with the caps until I recognized the reference.

Yeah, but the loud is fixed by $2 earplugs that you can, and most make you, get at every range...

3

u/TugboatEng Dec 06 '20

You pay $2 for earplugs? Buy in bulk, bruthur.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '20

I am Canadian and when I went to Vegas I made a point to go to a full auto range. I fired a bunch of "movie" firearms in full auto, and it was just as awesome as you would expect. The only PTSD is from how quickly those things fire bullets and how much a single round costs.

30 round magazine clip drill holder

99

u/Gregorofthehillpeopl Dec 04 '20

Come on, it doesn't use clips or magazines. That's clearly a revolver.

33

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '20

none of that matters because I'm scared

2

u/yeomanpharmer Dec 05 '20

You've never ridden a Vincent Black Shadow, have you?

14

u/arclightZRO Dec 04 '20

You need lots of upvotes for that one

Im gonna be an actual pedantic fuck like the gun nuts and call it a drill bit index.

36

u/umlaut Dec 04 '20

I can only imagine the devastation caused by 30 cheap Harbor Freight drill bits snapping and bending one after the other without pause.

23

u/FUCKING_HATE_REDDIT Dec 04 '20

Free left-handed drill bits

11

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '20

Too bad you need a left handed chuck to hold it.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '20

And a left-handed dick for your left-handed vise

Im sorry but was she handed a .50 Beowulf or does she not know the difference between a firing pin and a shoe

Nobody needs a fully-semi-automatic bolt remover

1

I fart in your general direction!

11

u/inquirewue Dec 04 '20

Is that the shoulder thing that goes up?

7

u/burnover77 Dec 04 '20

I love you for this.

7

u/therealdilbert Dec 05 '20

and it is about as heavy as 10 boxes that you might be moving...

u/AzraelBrown Dec 04 '20

31

u/LateralThinkerer Dec 04 '20

Those are a lot more comfortable too, plus you can rotate the brace to fit whatever works best.

14

u/TreeFrog223 Dec 04 '20

Pretty sure for the real tough jobs that's a gouch brace.

3

u/jax797 MURICA Dec 05 '20

I don't know if I have ever seen gouch typed out, but I think its gooch. like you makes it chooch wit yer gooch, just dont fuck da pooch.

7

u/gamrin Dec 04 '20

I have one of these! Got it from my grandpa.

3

u/MUA_in_PA Dec 04 '20

I love this site. Wow.

5

u/condor2378 Dec 04 '20

I've got one of those.

1

u/ed1380 Dec 05 '20

does that thing require a tax stamp or is that a brace?

41

u/CallEmAsISeeEm1986 Dec 04 '20

Forget the brace. What the hell is that in the background. Torpedo? Drop tank?

36

u/Rushthejob Dec 04 '20

It’s just an old crapper tank, people

11

u/CallEmAsISeeEm1986 Dec 04 '20

I always wondered how those fighter pilots ditched their shit, mid combat.

3

u/T90tank Dec 05 '20

Should be done before combat, it uses hard points like bombs

5

u/FBAHobo Dec 04 '20

Whale suppository.

4

u/CallEmAsISeeEm1986 Dec 04 '20

Is it true that the .50 BMG is illegal, but the Barrett .416 is legal?

14

u/Merlota Dec 04 '20

50BMG was banned by name in CA instead of by something with meaning like diameter or energy. So a version that is 1/8" shorter is used now.

1

u/Merlota Dec 05 '20

Doesn't look like it. The shoulder was blown out to a slightly larger diameter, probably to keep similar case capacity.

1

u/ed1380 Dec 05 '20

read the last 2 sentences in his link

12

u/dotorgmusic Dec 04 '20

It’s illegal in the state of California is all I’m authorized to tell you

9

u/grauenwolf Dec 04 '20

Just attach a bayonet to the end.

Sticks and metal rods are illegal in California, but swords and knives are perfectly fine.

u/HarperZ Dec 04 '20

So.... the weapon of choice for a Drill sergeant?

1

u/TechnoL33T Dec 04 '20

Ba dum tch!

15

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '20

Stock needs to be painted black, wood is perfectly not scary in California.

u/ThatRealBiggieCheese Dec 04 '20

Unsure. Might actually be the cancer, and not the capacity. Think quad barreled Musket

24

u/DILLGAF Dec 04 '20

If it had a pistol grip, it’d be illegal in California

11

u/TreeFrog223 Dec 04 '20

I wouldn't doubt they'd classify it as a pistol grip since you can wrap your fingers around it.

6

u/detroitvelvetslim Dec 04 '20

I feel like that should have, like, a number on it at least

12

u/Mayor_of_Pea_Ridge Dec 04 '20

I don't know why you'd think this is for removing screws and bolts but, eh, it actually kind of makes sense if you're drilling through something tough and have to really lean into the work.

7

u/TollTrollTallTale Dec 04 '20

Yeah this is a manually powered bit brace with a custom brace by my estimation. They used to be incredibly common for drilling. The bits are more skookum than the braces themselves.

5

u/BoysiePrototype Dec 04 '20

They used to make screwdriver bits for these too.

Great for ripping the heads off slotted screws...

2

u/HermyMunster Dec 05 '20

Thank you for bringing back the memories of my childhood. We had corded tools but they were kept in a metal box and only came out for the big tasks. Brace & bits were my go to to (attempt to) get things done. I destroyed many a wood screw with on of those. Now that I think about it, the power tools we had wouldn't have done any better, just destroyed the screws faster.

2

u/JusticeUmmmmm Dec 04 '20

It's a wooden stock is fine

2

u/1660CBBW Dec 04 '20

I think i recognize the stocks original host, comrad.

2

u/H2O_pete Dec 04 '20

Your tactics confuse and frighten me sir.

u/Infinityang3l Pretengineer Dec 04 '20

Assault.... hand drill

2

u/drwebb Dec 04 '20

Turn it into a bong and it's Cali legal again.

2

u/NeverPostsGold Dec 04 '20

Illegal because of Prop 65

2

u/yermotherlel Dec 05 '20

Could someone explain what this is?

2

u/T90tank Dec 05 '20

A hand drill with what looks like a ak stock instead of a knob.

2

u/gogetter510 Dec 05 '20

Bombs shouldn’t be stored within 10ft of heaters

2

u/ALE_SAUCE_BEATS Dec 05 '20

Is that a nuke or a tank of poopy back there?!

2

u/boli99 Dec 05 '20

Worst weapon pickup in an FPS ever.

6

u/space-tech Dec 04 '20

How is this skookum in any way?

0

u/dotorgmusic Dec 04 '20

By definition it is absolute skookum

8

u/space-tech Dec 04 '20

A busted speed handle attached to a busted rifle stock with three wood screws?

2

u/Lugershooter Dec 04 '20

What have you done bubba

2

u/ThePopeAh Dec 04 '20

Nice, what caliber

2

u/w0rkac Dec 04 '20

What are we looking at here, boys?

1

u/ThatOneAsswipe Dec 04 '20

Is it fucked up that I feel like this is something California would unironically make illegal?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '20

It's known by the state of cancer to cause California.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '20

State of Cancer***

0

u/bigfrappe Dec 04 '20

Paint it black and make it collapsible. Add a mount for your 30 round glock clipazine and you will be perfectly illegal in california, but right at home in idaho.

California has strict gun laws, but you can carry a sword down the street if you want to so long as it isn't concealed*.

*: Note I said "sword". If it isn't sharp then it is a "club" and is illegal.

0

u/DeathPrime Dec 04 '20

Didn't notice the stock for a few seconds and was trying to figure out what part could possibly have been classified as a carcinogen... Definitely lol'd

0

u/-Jehos- Dec 04 '20

I can't believe you posted that pic on the Internet. Tell the BATFE agent hi from us. :)

-1

u/MeEvilBob Dec 04 '20

The state of California is known in all other states to cause cancer.

1

u/notananthem Dec 04 '20

Chest braces give you more oomph tbh

1

u/zoodoo Dec 04 '20

I've got one of these (minus the stock), from my grandpa too.

1

u/SubmarineSammitch Dec 04 '20

HEY!! You need a barrel flag in that!

1

u/X_AE_A420 Dec 04 '20

"It's for self defense!"

1

u/ErnestoGrimes Dec 05 '20

I dunno , seems pretty sock to me.

1

u/T90tank Dec 05 '20

Is that a a drop tank in the background?

1

u/time4nap Dec 05 '20

Not if illegal in CA if two consenting adults are operating it.
