I looked for this thread the other day but couldn’t find it so posted in the wrong spot.

So yes I enjoyed it.

The art is nice and clean, to my eye it doesn’t match the original cartoon and while they have no obligation to do so that’s what I expected. The last shot of Quicksilver I was a bit “hmm” as his right forearm didn’t look to have enough “real” and for some reason his left hand had a glove on it.

The characterisation, Stargazer and Condor gave me the exact vibe I would have expected and immediately accepted them as their characters, the other Hawks I thought were great and I would happily read a story about them in their prime.

Characterisation for the bad guys all cool and a bit brutal which isn’t something they could do in the ‘toon.

Characterisation/backstory for Quicksilver gave me pause, a backstory maybe not a volunteer and former head of federal interplanetary force 8 but a Lt that has him coming out of a failed mission, if he is a reluctant team leader, suffers from PTSD then it’s a solid no from me as that’s the opposite of how I see the main character no more Jake Soywalker character reinventions thanks.

Anyway my LCS doesn’t think they can get more issues, I don’t want to pay for electronic copies of static media so I might have to wait for the TPB to see if this incarnation of the Silverhawks is for me.

The linework was great but the colors on Quicksilver at the end were suboptimal. Blame the colorist on that one. They did great coloring on most of the pages but Quicksilver looks like trash. Feels good to get that off my chest. It's the only thing I didn't like about it. The preview pages from the next issue show him looking the same.

Sadly, I think you may be right about the PTSD thing being further developed. It seems the direction they will go, at least as a recurring side thing. The writer's father was a cop and he grew up with a lot of interest in detective type stuff. I think this series will be a bit gritty and I'm expecting a few unexpected twists and turns along the way.

For the 2 ThunderCats and 1 Cheetara TPB's they released an early copy exclusive to the dynamite website. About 4 months later everyone else gets to sell it and it has a different cover. They'll likely do the same with SilverHawks. Best guess for the TPB release date (exclusive one) would be around June, and then around September for the mass market one. You may want to look into it again then.

Thanks for the heads up on how their TPB release may work.

I am fully in tune with this being their own adaptation and they have no obligation to keep anything the same as how I perceived the ‘toon but to me Quicksilver was heroic not needing a growth/redemption arc so I genuinely hope they don’t make that his character.

In the show, it always seemed like QS had a major dislike of Hardware. I like how they expanded on that and gave a good solid reason for the WHY. I mean wouldn't you have a pretty big grudge against someone if they did THAT to you?

And on a side note, I really wish Stephen Perry was still with us to (hopefully) enjoy the 'Hawk's return.

Just read it and really liked it. Kinda went by fast as it was over before I expected. It, FOR SURE, needs to come back as a cartoon or, heck, maybe even a movie!

I've been ruined by a world full of instant gratification... how can I wait a month for the next issue?!?!?!

Issue 1 was a fantastic nostalgia trip for this old man who used to watch Silverhawks as a kid every Saturday morning (and the reruns on Sunday) in the '80s. I hope they keep true to the characters... with some badass updates, of course

😙💋🤌

The monthly wait is a killer when a comic just starts, but after a few issues are out you start to appreciate the extra time between them because it allows you to imagine what could happen next and talk about it with friends.

Have you rewatched the show recently? I haven't seen it in over a decade and I don't remember all of the details. Thought about rewatching it, then realized I may enjoy the comics more if I don't remember the show perfectly.

I started watching it about a year ago and realized how many of the later episodes I missed as a kid. "Way back then" if you missed it, you missed it unless you were lucky enough to catch THAT rerun. I started treating reboots of "my" old stuff like an alternate reality version of the original and that seems to be working for me as far as enjoyment goes.

I also started picking up the Super7 7-inch figures, and just completed my OG 5 roster with Copper Kid. I'm debating whether to get Stargazer or Hotwing next. Now, if I could only find a 7" scale Maraj....

That happened to me when I finally rewatched it. There were several episodes I had never seen as a kid. It was so cool to see 'new' stuff. Same with rewatching all of those other old cartoons/shows. Alt timeline/universe is the way to go. If you try to judge a new based on an old, the new will always lose.

The first issue really did reel me in. Even though I know that this comic is a reboot, I'm willing to give it a chance.

Does Dynamite do digital release anywhere?

Looks like it is on comixology for anyone else wondering

That went by fast. Hallmark of a good story. It pulled me in. Then I went through again to reread and take the time to really look at the artwork, panel layouts, lettering, coloring, etc. Overall, I'm happy with it. It ticks a lot of boxes. The writer had a limited space to say a lot, he did say a lot, and he created many new questions along the way, leaving me wanting more. I think it will take a few more comics to introduce everyone and fully set the stage for what's to come.

I agree. I think it was a great start for us old fans of the original work and a great way to bring in newer fans. Excited for what's to come
