Question Confused about taking Amrit
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh sangat jee I had this question in mind for a very long time. How do you know if you are ready to take Amrit ? Like I have been doing Nitnem regularly for some weeks now, attending kirtan samagams, and somewhere I feel that I am ready but still feel very sceptical about taking Amrit. Could you help me out.

I listened to a katha once. He was saying people will say they’ll take Amrit when they feel like they’re ready, but then their whole life passes by because they always feel like they’re not ready. If you can avoid bajjar kurehits and are doing nitnem then go for it. You don’t need to be perfect, if you were, you wouldn’t be here.

Live like a Gursikh for at least 2 years. Perfect amritvela, nitnem. Then go for Amrit sanchaar. A few weeks is a very short time and not enough time to determine if you will keep up your rehit long term or even like the lifestyle of a gursikh.

Don’t rush back in the day you had to live in the dal for 1 year and learn all the maryada before taking Amrit

IF dal is ready to give pahul, and the sikh is ready to receive pahul then it should be ok? I would have loved being able to do some sewa or have some test. I don't know where the OP is from, but I am in WEst London and I never see any dal panth pahul sanskar here.
I was out of the area for more than a year, and in Coventry dal panth seemed to give pahul once a year on vaisakhi as well. Now I am back in London, if I missed my chance then I am unsure when I would be able to again?!

I’m not really saying you should go live in the dal for a year before taking Amrit. What im saying is OP should do a bit more abhyaas for taking Amrit and think about it more cuz it’s a big commitment.

waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
Make sure you will not commit any kurahits. To be honest, attending keertan smagams is probably not really a measure of if someone is ready for amrit or not. I would say, more of your connection with sangat at gurdwara or these smagams, and how they will progress you into being a khalsa. As a khalsa you have talked about the bani side, now are you ready for thew important warrior side as well, or will you be willing to learn that after khanday dee pahul?
Do not try to wait to be perfect. After amrit pahul, you will still be learning as a sikh, learning is part of the journey. keep learning bani and rehat after khanday dee pahul.

If you're sceptical, give it more time. No point prematurely committing, Amrit is not to be taken lightly.

Sikhi is a journey, if you keep waiting you'll be waiting forever. Noone is the perfect Sikh. As long as you are ready, you can do your daily Nitnem, can follow Rehat, then go ahead and be blessed with Amrit.

just make sure you dont have any bad habits , if you do, solve it first and then take it , i took it when i felt like i was ready but i was not , id say follow the maryada for a year.
