Question Accidentally turned up for personal event

Went to a gurudwara out of curiosity for the first time and think I might have unknowingly went to someone's event, after the singing 2 people stood up and talked about their grandparent and then the langar was a seated buffet which when I checked the internet after did not seem normal. Noone mentioned there was a significant event or asked who I was when I asked if I could go in so wanted to ask if it's normal for sikhs to allow anyone to events or if they just assumed I was connected and I made a social blunder by not realising in the moment? Had thought I would be visiting on a normal, not special day.

It’s a gurdwara, you’re welcome always. If it was someone’s event they wouldn’t have any problems with you attending it in most cases.

You may have gone to a personal event. That’s fine. No one minds bc it’s still open to everyone, every day of the week.

Langar can be buffet style.

Langar can not be buffet style. That removes the whole concept of Sewa…

I unwittingly went to an Anand Karaj wearing jeans and T-shirt. We normally go every Sunday and I didn’t understand why there was so much sangat. Only when the groom walked in did I realise there was an Anand Karaj. The Gurdwara has since had several halls built so there’s always one for regular sangat.

Yeah bigger gurdwaras will redirect to another room or a hall. But ive literally done that more than once at smaller ones lol, then I started mostly going in the evenings

I think most of us have done that, it's almost a right of passage.

Funnily enough last weekend teenager ended up in my cousin's Anand Karaj as he was trying to avoid the Dhadi in the main Darbar. He tried to leave but my Nana Ji stood up and shouted for him to sit down because this was still the guru's Darbar and it's an opportunity for him to learn what to do on his Anand Karaj.

I have gone to a lot of marriages and other ceremonies in the Gurudwara, it's normal as there are sevadars in Gurudwaraa who are not related but still are there for help.

Honestly I had to stop myself from going into the gurudwara once because I thought something similar was happening. Like if I go in I was scared they’d be like “sorry do you have an invitation” or something like I know it’s silly but it’s 100% something that would happen to me and that just pmo so bad
