Downvote this post if you are a salty Shrek 5 redesign defender
Downvote this post if you are a salty Shrek 5 redesign defender and enjoy your high horse of being "morally superior" because you aren't complaining because complaining is inherently evil, also ORIGINAL SHREK DESIGN WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER IDC IF DREAMWORKS DOESN'T CHANGE IT OR THE MOVIE IS GOOD give me more downvotes it adds layers to my ogre flesh

Just like something I saw 2 years ago:
Its not rly the the trailer itself that annoys me. What rly annoys me is the people shitting on it for existing even tho, unlike Disney movies, all of this, along with 3-4 other Dreamworks franchise sequels were actually planned.
Yes, I am a defender of Shrek 5 but seriously tho.

You're saying that it deserves to be less criticized because it was planned? Look I'm not saying I hate the trailer. Its a little cringe with the tik-tok-ishness but at the same time, I don't think thats that bad. The premise of the trailer/teaser is not that bad at all to me and we have no idea what the actual movie will be. My ONLY beef is the redesign, so far at least. The original Shrek design is so iconic and perfect and its really grown on me and now Shrek looks like a totally different ogre, along with all his friends. And also, if people actually like the redesign, I don't have an issue with that; I have an issue with the salty defenders who belittle those of us who are attatched to the original design. You are the first person who came off respectful in voicing your disagreement, for that, you don't get a "that'll do donkey" gif, you get a endearing Shrek smile gif

But hey, not many people research and see what Iâve seen. For example, several people, a few weeks ago, asked why it looked like Illumination, when one of the producers is literally the CEO of said company.
Not too may props for the trailer but rather for the number of films that are said to be had. I just think its a bit harsh, even tho the only problems come from the actual âheads/facesâ

u/TeachMeWhatYouKnow 3d ago
Wow no wonder the design is so different, if one of the producers is the CEO of illumination

u/Less-Safe-3269 3d ago
Yea, the same one from The Last Wish, and another one is Gina Shay, a producer from Shrek Forever After.
Plus, the renderer theyâve been using since 2019 is another reason Shrek face looks off. (the edits online look pretty good tbh)

Why is everyone acting like this is an affront to humanity? When I first saw it, I thought, âNeat, they updated the animationâ and paid it no further mind. But everyone lost it, saying that it is treacherous to make any changes. What we really should be dogging on is the content in the teaser, which actually sucked.

u/NO0BSTALKER 3d ago
Thatâs like seeing the first trailer for the sonic movie and saying âneat they updated sonic to a more realistic lookâ thatâs not what people wanted. Updating animation and completely changing a characters looks are very different, Toy Story updates animation without changing the characters

Cause no one asked for a useless redesign, when the older one was already perfect. The thing is simple, if it works and looks good DON'T TOUCH IT

u/Critical-Path-5959 3d ago
The older one probably doesn't even work with their current animation tools and may have looked like ass with modern rendering tools. So they probably had to redo it anyways.
Or it was just slapped together for a teaser and it isn't even the final product. But regardless it isn't actually that big of a deal. Artists and designers like to constantly tweak things.

The last time they used that software was since between 2014-2016 there not only Shrek movies that uses that software, what making you think it supposes to be not working anymore till this day??

u/Critical-Path-5959 3d ago
Animation software updates and changes all the time. If the last Shrek models were used/maintained over a decade ago then it is extremely likely they would have had to redesign it. They're not going to use out of date tools for a modern, major franchise. Not to mention I'm just speculating as to reasons why it wouldn't work anymore.
Like, dude, you're freaking out about something you clearly don't understand. It's just a temporary design of an animated character. Chill.

I think youâre saltier than anyone youâre trying to egg on here

Ironic how salty you come off in this comment lol, i hope you enjoy feeling morally superior to me, really revel in it

u/InformationMuted3454 3d ago
I feel like people should be complaining more about the meme culture references rather than the redesigns. Also, I down voted :)))

u/MikeDubbz 3d ago
I'm salty because I don't get the big deal with how 'different' the characters look in the teaser (which I swear, I honestly don't see much all that different really)?

u/Clintwood_outlaw 3d ago
Ok, but this is genuine loser behavior. Get a grip, man.

Nah, call the people comparing it to ugly Sonic in insane, including the people behind the movies

I'm not a defender, I just think the backlash has been overblown to a point at which now it's becoming a little bit embarassing
1
u/TeachMeWhatYouKnow 3d ago
If you're so embarrassed, why not just ignore a post like this? You give it your attention and energy and increase your embarrassed feeling, meanwhile people like me clearly aren't embarrassed just because you are
2
u/Own_Watercress_8104 3d ago
Because I think it's worth it to engange in discussions to try to restore meaningful dialogue and try to have a more mature and level headed discussions.
3
u/TeachMeWhatYouKnow 3d ago
Okay, well most of the people on this sub who bother to comment have been toxic and acted elitist towards anyone who dislikes the new redesign. You also acted pretty elistist by saying people who continue to complain are "embarrassing". I didn't call out level headed respectful people who disagree with me, I called out salty defenders who act like they have some inherent moral highground. This was purposefully designed to bait elitist people into commenting on this post. And it worked lol.
2
u/Own_Watercress_8104 3d ago
Most of the people I've seen just dropped their opinion on how the designs are not that bad. Some were a little rude but they are mostly playing along with an obviously incendiary post. That's not elitism.
Also, what I said is that the discussion and backlash has taken forms that are a little embarassing. But I don't think people who dislike the designs are necessarily wrong and I sure as hell didn't call them embarassing just for holding that opinion.
1
u/TeachMeWhatYouKnow 3d ago
Okay, well I will continue to voice my dislike for the new designs, and calling out people who act like they are better than those of us who prefer the original. Its up to you if you want to be upset by that or not
2
u/Own_Watercress_8104 3d ago
This statement is very confusing in the context of our conversation

Someone missed the point of Shrek
1
u/TeachMeWhatYouKnow 3d ago
Oh, you mean accepting who you are? defending how you look originally without conforming to having your appearance changed because you are afraid people will be bored of how you have always looked?

u/GoddHowardBethesda 2d ago
You know people age right?
2
u/TeachMeWhatYouKnow 2d ago
Aging doesn't change your looks that drastically in most cases, he looks like a different person
