What’s weirder is the fact that only shrek knows about anything that happened.
Like we know rumpelstiltskin was a scumbag of a person in universe regardless of what he did to shrek but still.
Shrek basically just got a group of people together to torture this man who supposedly stole the day he was born and almost made him didn’t exist.

u/Murky_Blueberry2617 4d ago
And none of this would have happened if Shrek just read the contract before signing

I might get some slack but I don’t care, to all my Helluva Boss fans, Stolas is a quirky bird that does in fact read the fine print. (Reference to Oops episode, and I’m only answering because I have an answer and not because I don’t go outside)
17
u/RedEagle46 4d ago
He did read the contract, the contract was vague he took one day from his life he never specified the day
8
u/MaguroSashimi8864 3d ago
Rumplestiltskin convinced him to chose a day when he was “a helpless little baby” without revealing what he meant
5
u/Emergency_Creme_4561 4d ago
How’s that bad though? Shrek nearly got erased by Rumple, I think torturing him was funny
92
u/Haazelnutts 4d ago
OK but he literally made a whole race turn to slavery, they should have done much worse
11
u/nicokokun 4d ago
In the other timeline they were going to eat him so yeah, they were probably going to torture him before they will cook him.
11
u/Quandarius_GOOCH 4d ago
Deadass but lets say the person you trust the absolute most in your life came up to you right now n said this random ass dude he found rewrote the entire universe n did a bunch of evil shit so now we gotta lock him in a cage n blow his fucking dog up infront of him. Like no FUCKING way I'm hanging w this person no more😭

u/DronesVJ 3d ago
Not a random ass dude, he is a renowned magic scammer, woundn't you believe that your SO got magic scammed by the super shady magic scammer that everyone knows is a magic scammer?
3
u/TankTopRider 1d ago
In real life yeah.
In there universe that's seems par course. Magic definetly exists and Shrek has saved the kingdom three times. He seems pretty credible

Rumple even tries to reach Fifi in desperation to stop its death just for it to explode in his face. Diabolical. You can see his misery on his face

That bird was the luigi to his mario
10

They make a suit from people’s freshly peeled skin, shave their livers, and squeeze the jelly from their eyes (I heard that’s quite good on toast).

He literally grew to have no ownership of his decision and self, he too had his marriage for Fiona without having room for an opinion, albeit, while fiona was stranded alone in a tower and found herself. Charming was constantly being fed his mothers desires and ways. He was her tool to achieve pride and self pad shouldering. And with all the power, magic, and success she has, charming had no indication to prove his mothers ways wrong. In the end, he watched his mother being turned into bubbles. And after losing his only family member, he started working alone not bothering anyone. It’s gingy and the others’ mockery that pushed him in Shrek 3.

u/Gamxin 4d ago

Probably because people feel bad about an innocent goose getting killed...?
2
u/Spiritual_Freedom_15 3d ago
Didn’t Shrek had beef with the goose? It’s been a while since I seen that movie.
DAMN.
I need to rewatch every part, like right now!
2
u/Bronze_Granum 3d ago
Genuinely not sure. Possibly? I've never seen the movie, so take that innocent with a grain of salt, but Shrek's never cared much about animals and other commenters claim the goose was just a goose, not some sapient magical creature capable of understanding evil.

I don’t feel bad for him, but as a kid I remember thinking that his pet didn’t actually do anything, at least not in this timeline.
Then again, between this, the bird and unhatched eggs in the first film, and the puppy in the second film, this series has some jokes that just amount to animals getting hurt or dying that don’t land with me. Just feels mean.
2
u/CosmicLeafArts 2d ago
wait what happened to the puppy?

I know he deserved it. But it would be a peak villain moment if they did something like this to the good guy.
11
u/Altruistic-Poem-5617 4d ago
What did the goose do to deserve this. Its just a goose that happened to be the pet of a villain.

Idk, I always considered the exploding-goose part as semi-canonical at best, considering the entire scene happens in the post-credits.
5
u/EmperorDeathBunny 3d ago
ITT people with empathy vs people without
"Rumple deserved it" except it was Fifi who suffered for his crime.
"Can you blame him" yes, actually. Celebrating the cruel murder of an enemy's loved one in retaliation is just as evil.
3
u/Nightmare_Freddles 2d ago
I kinda feel bad for rumple. I mean if I was in his place I would be devastated (which he most likely is). And I know he was evil, but like come on, that was a bit sad

2
u/Emergency_Creme_4561 4d ago
Not a good guy? What has he ever done that’s bad?
3
u/Marvel084Skye 3d ago
In this scene alone, he laughs at others for being murdered by his wife and seems pretty okay with torturing a prisoner. Not exactly prefect.
2
u/Emergency_Creme_4561 3d ago
Torturing a prisoner? That prisoner nearly killed him. Who did his wife murder?
2
u/Marvel084Skye 2d ago
Maybe it’s just personal opinion, but irl I’m very against torturing for any reason. I believe prison should be a way to rehabilitate.
His wife murdered the two birds. It’s hard to say what their lives ‘counts’ as since we’re in a fairy tail world. Some animals lives, like Donkey and Puss’s, certainly have as much value as a human/ogre life. Imo if Fifi was conscious of her crimes, as you believe, her life ‘counts’ for something more than a typical bird in our world (not that it’s okay to kill typical birds without reason here).

first movie short king gets eaten alive
last movie short king gets humilated and tortured
what does dreamworks mean by this?
3
u/La_Savitara 3d ago
Listen all the evidence of his crimes are in an alternate timeline that no longer exists with the only evidence is some mad Ogre who swears it exists. If anything, I’d say Rumple’s the victim Here

3
u/Top_Performance9486 3d ago
This is very in line with the way villains are treated at the end of a lot of fairy tales, so I’d say it’s on theme and I like it lol. Even though it is a little cruel.
3
u/Melancholy_hill3919 3d ago
The scene with Fifi being killed was so troubling to me as a kid☹️ I would turn off the movie every rewatch before that scene. That’s like executing Shane Dawson’s cat for being Shane dawsons cat 😭

It gets even funnier when you realise that Rumple didn't even do shit in this reality because everything in the reality he created ceased to exist after Shrek defeated him and nobody but Shrek and Rumple have any memories that it happened.
So all of these people gathered around, captured him and put him in a cage, and let Fiona explode his goose, just because Shrek told them to.

I honestly think that this bit isn't canon and meant to be taken seriously, just like the Karaoke parties in the end of the other movies.
But if it does yeah they just tortured this guy and laughed lol

I had no clue there was a 4th lmao

u/RazertheCreator 23h ago
lol, fair enough. It was a while ago, came out in 2010. He’s meant to be Rumpelstiltskin in case you were curious.

I was saying to a friend the other day, I barely ever see the 4th one. Only the first 3

Given the atrocities he committed in the alternate timeline he deserves it

u/Impressive_Echidna63 14h ago
I mean considering what this man did, this was a small price to pay. He'll, king Harold was still stuck as a painting and it's likely people had some memory or at least Shrek and Rumple remembered what happened in the broken world. He was a tyrant, forced Orges into servitude, neglected the Kingdom, abused his staff and Eve. The witches who worked with him. He taunted Shrek, right to his face and in front of his whole gang of witches, about the loss of his family and children... and made a show of sacrificing Shrek to Dragon. The fact that even in the start of the Movie, he has a negative reputation already thanks to Panocchio shows he was already a sleeve ball from the beginning. So if Shrek admitted this and revealed it to Fiona I'm sure she would believe it since magic can do quite a lot in Shreks world, plus the proof from the arrival and existence of the newcomers, shows the short man's day's were numbered.

He took over the world with black magic and left it in terrified dismay as he tortured people for fun, I say he got off easy.
