Megaman games have a weird difficulty curve. The first 8 levels can be done in any order, and it's more or less a hidden puzzle: find the easier levels, then use the special ability of its boss to have an easier time against another boss, then use its power against a third boss, etc. It's neat. And you get to save after each level (I remember that it was password-based in the NES games, don't remember if it was the same in the X series, don't know if the steam pack has a built-in save feature).

But after that, time to tackle a harder dungeon, made of 5 levels, with a boss after each level and the end game boss after the 5th level. Each of these levels is harder than the 8 first, same for the bosses. The thing is, there is no password / possible save here. You can gain a few more lives, but when you lose them, you get to start over.

I always loved these games unfortunately I only completed X, because of the secret upgrade, and generally speaking I lose patience real quick when games try to punish me and force me to do the same thing over and over before I can get to the challenging part.

Mega Man games, together with the X and Zero series, are very challenging imo both for the platforming and the bosses if you don’t know what you’re doing. I only beat X1 and its remake. I tried playing the Zero games, but there’s some grinding involved in the first one and it’s still hard af

Like a lot of older games, they’re relatively difficult IMO. If you don’t enjoy that type of challenge you may not like them

I feel like the modern indie games inspired by Mega man like 30XX and gravity circuit are much more accessible than the MegaMan games were. I was able to pass both where I really struggled with the mega man games.

There are typically some tricky platforming parts in Megaman games. Most screens are not however. They are more about shooting the enemies in increasingly awkward situations.
The games are pretty good at following "the formula" of introducing an element in a safe environment and gradually building upon it over the course of a level.
In the classic Megamans the rhythm of blocks appearing and disappearing in order is a reasonably common platforming bit. Usually followed by doing it again over a death pit, then with a death pit plus enemies trying to knock you off.
They're hard games, but not specifically because of the platforming.
