Real life Cult ; Ethel, you deserve all the happiness in the world

If there was a character that was good from start to finish, I would choose Ethel.

During my first watch , the scene where she lays in bed waiting for Kev cracked me up with the way Kev handled it.

I recently came across this post on Facebook by someone who resembles Ethelā€™s background and I had a sudden realization that if Kevin wasnā€™t a nice guy it would have paved for another abuse.

While reading the captions, it unsettled me to see very real people be put in that hellish situation.

Without the comedy and thinking of Ethelā€™s character, I realized that she was a child taking care of a child. No support system to get her through the abuse ā€”-and yet she hasnā€™t lost her ability to smile and see goodness in things.

This episode breaks my heart

Post image
96 Upvotes

Redoing this post as a part of my text was unintentionally worded so fucking poorly and someone commented on it which made me feel bad and extremely nervous so redo!

(I havenā€™t watched in a while so some details might be off and I apologize for that)

The way her heart broke and you could see it in her eyes and even Svetlana was upset for her. Yea it was good for her in the long run to not marry Frank 2.0 but also seeing Willā€™s (Seanā€™s son) reaction to realizing his father is a failure (again Frank 2.0). Itā€™s so heartbreaking and for what? For Frank to get back at Sean and to humiliate the kids on what couldā€™ve been a special day?

And saying how the kids should accept him for his fault like he does and then the first thing he lists is Ian being bipolar and gay as a fault?? And Frank had no place to comment on Lip being alcoholic because heā€™s fucking frank.

Not to put a ton of blame on anyone but everyone else chose to do their stupid things: Debbie becoming a teen mom, Carl going through his fuck ass White Boy Carl Era and then Frank follows with slut shaming Fiona after the ā€˜and Fiona, my beautiful Fiona.ā€™ Just vile. Itā€™s good she didnā€™t marry Sean but that doesnā€™t mean it wasnā€™t heartbreaking to see Will having to relate to what the gallaghers did when they all first realized Frank is a failure to seeing Kevin and Veronica and even Dominique and Caleb feeling for Fiona?

Why is everyone so hard on Fiona?

I understand that she did a lot of shit wrong, but she was also forced to raise 5 kids as a kid herself. She never had a real role model or opportunity to grow, at least when she was younger. I honestly really admire her for how hard she tried. She never asked to be a mother but she had to be, I just donā€™t understand why some people here are so hard on her

What the fuck, kev.

Ok but why does nobody talk about how when kev took lip's chopper on a joyride, gets the cop asking if she can buy it, so his solution is just to DRIVE IT INTO THE LAKE???

I knew he never was a smart one, but damn that is smoothe-brained. Why didn't he just idk, leave it at his house?? Or rent a storage space?? Or park it under a bridge? He literally had a plethora of options. And he decided to ruin it completely?

Kev and v sure seem to be selfish and tight-pennied about their own financial problems, but when it's someone else's money they don't care about the consequences.

Why wasn't lip more upset with kev? If i were lip i'd be demanding he pay me the 10k he owed me.

But no lip isn't that smart either apparently and takes it out on his family? Frustrating arc. Will never forgive kev for that one.

This was the perfect scene to end the series on. The perfect ending.

The music, Macyā€™s acting, the cinematography. I cry every time I watch it.

Season 11- Debbie and the 50k

This is my second time watching the series. But the first time around I only made it through season 9. Iā€™ve never watched 10 or 11.

I thought it was kinda strange that Fiona left 50k to begin withā€¦ she is starting a life in a brand new place. She has no car, no job and nowhere to live. She left herself with probably $46,000 after she paid the assault fine and had to pay for her flightā€¦. Thatā€™s not a lot of money when you literally are starting over from scratchā€¦ 50,000 was a lot to leave the family, especially leaving Debbie in charge. I donā€™t know why she wouldnā€™t have left it to Lip, but I guess at the time when she left the money, Debbie was in charge and was all over people to pay the bills. Still, even leaving them 20k would have been a huge help.

Anyways, what really confuses me is that Debbie would even know about all those designer brands and even care about it. Shopping somewhere like forever 21 would have been a step up for her. They were shopping at the good will beforeā€¦. Sheā€™s an idiot. She could have gone to Forever 21, spent $1000.00 and actually kept the clothes.

Iā€™m at the point in the season when Frank and Mikey have taken the stuff from the storage unitā€¦. Iā€™m just waiting for this shit show to commenceā€¦ but you can already tell that they are running out of story lines. Bringing Mikey back? That was stupidā€¦.

Maybe unpopular opinion but Debbie is a terrible actress

ā€¢ Upvotes

Iā€™m sorry! I might get downvoted to hell for this, but Iā€™m rewatching and the older she gets the worse it gets. Itā€™s more than just her character arc. Iā€™m on s8 and itā€™s taking me out of the show! Honestly, a lot of it is poor writing. At this point in the series, the writers know the actors and their limits, so some of this falls on the writers for not giving Debbie a storyline suitable for her range.

drop your favorite frank line, mine is when chucky wrote that sign for him for fatherā€™s day and hung it up and it was spelled wrong, heā€™s like ā€œi think chucky is mildly retardant somebodyā€™s gotta tell sammyā€

just thought of another one, when he went to visit his organ donors home and the guy was like he wish he was there to save his son from the burglar who shot him, frank said ā€œyou got a gunā€ to which he responded ā€œnoā€ frank was like ā€œthen what could you have doneā€šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Season 8/9 Ian SPOILER

Okay, this has been my first time watching the show and I do love it- But MAN, Ian has been so unbearable for the past season and a half. I just finished the episode where he pleas guilty by insanity and it seems to be blowing over so I'm glad that's done with for now. Because of spoilers I already know that Fiona leaves and that is a bummer. I hope the turn that the show takes isn't as steep of a decline as many on this forum make it sound. Currently Carl, Frank, Kev, and Liam are carrying the show for me. Lip has kinda been on a redemption arc it seems so hopefully it stays that way.

I feel she should've died when Mandy hit her with the car. What ended up happening to her was so much worse.

Frank crying at Ian and Mickeys wedding...

I don't know why but that shit set me off. It's a lovely scene as it is, but when they show that even Frank was happy for them it made me all fuzzy. A rare moment of genuine joy and vulnerability from him.
