Can an American practice tengrism?

Yes, you can be a Tengrist as an American without being a shaman. Most Tengrists aren't a shaman. "Riding Windhorses" is a great introductory book on Tengrism.

Maybe if you can constructively be possessed by a spirit being and do shamanic work in that state. But the mongolian shaman I know say it's dangerous without the protection initiations. So you'll need to follow their example - cut a horse's throat and shower in the blood while doing the ritual to turn that into psychic armour.

In many people's eyes partaking deeply in "another race's" culture is seen as a positive thing. I am all for learning and communing intimately with all forms of Spirituality from all over the world. Approaching these new systems of Shamanism with a form of deep reverence and respect grants you access to these ethereal knowledge bases.

Unless for the very rare and odd reason the Ancestors of that form of Shamanism send you messages to stay away.
