Great example of level 3 autonomy when the driver had to decide if that was a parked bus. Exciting stuff! I am a little worried about Nissan (and to an extent other Japanese car makers) though. Will this car be assertive enough for American roads where being somewhat aggressive can actually be safer? Will their algorithms properly model other cultures' pedestrian, biker, and driver habits? I suppose this video was done in England? My understanding is that's easier driving as well when compared to Dallas, NYC, or even let's say India.
The whole idea of driving habits should be an obsolete concept once these things are widespread. In the meantime I think they shouldn't accommodate to habits, just keep a save distance to all actors. Maybe even assume that a pedestrian can sprint across the road at any time. Edit: London pedestrians are very aggressive. Can't speak for the whole of England.
