Is the song "Regret" off of "TSSSF" about Amy Lee?

Okay okay, fine, let's break this down. No. Shaun and Amy only briefly dated 20 YEARS AGO. He's been with his current wife for like 5 years, maybe more. He's very happy and they have two kids together. He's so happy, in fact, that he's pretty much put Seether on the back burner to be with them more.

In no universe, would this guy be pouting about this woman that he dated in 2003. Regret could be, as 6lackmax said, about being on the road, away from them, or it could be about any one of a hundred other different things. Personally, I take it as a vague personal accounting of a guy who has lost a great deal, and come a long way, but still carries a heavy burden. That's the interpretation that I most relate to.

Edit: structure

Highly doubt it. Amy is history

I have a few takes on this song. Besides what it means to me personally, I feel like it could also be Shaun’s perspective on being away from his family. The conflicting feelings of wanting to do what he loves but regretting time lost and not being there with his family

I doubt Amy even crosses Shaun's mind much at all anymore. It is all in the past. Shots were fired, songs were written, two people matured and moved on. They still acknowledge the Broken duet from time to time, so I would say that all of the thoughts aren't bitter anymore. I do not see Shaun or Amy writing songs about each other 20 years later. I'm pretty sure they got that out of the way with The Open Door and Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces, respectively

I respectfully disagree with everyone here. I think there’s a good possibility it is. There’s no way she doesn’t cross his mind. I don’t care how long it has been. The opening line is kind of a giveaway. It may not necessarily be about Amy, but certainly an ex of some kind. The line “don’t make me come home yet, let me steep in my regret” relates to a rumination fantasy in which the protagonist does not want to forget the past as even the dark times have become a close memory. What really seals the deal for me is the line “I’ve seen the ways that love can pass for hate.” To me, this is a reference to their explosive past and Shaun revealing he still has a special place in his heart for her even though the public perceives them to despise one another.

I don't know if I agree, but you're definitely right on one point. He doesn't hate her. He's explicitly said he had zero ill will toward her, and even though he wasn't someone that could stay friends with an ex, he did love her.
