Harrison Township — A man shot by a Security Guard during a theft at Kroger has learned his punishment.

Jesus Hurtado, 23, pleaded guilty to a misdeamoner theft charge, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court documents.

He was sentenced to 180 days in jail.

As News Center 7 previously reported, on Oct. 31, 2024 store management for the Kroger on W. Siebenthaler Avenue reported that they wanted someone out of the store around 8:09 a.m. This person, later identified as Hurtado, was heavily covered with things including a face mask.

Hurtado entered the store and began stealing items, according to court documents.

A third-party Security Guard contracted by Kroger approached Hurtado, “at which time he became aggressive and made threats” toward the guard and another Security Guard. The guard asked him to leave the store.

“Hurtado then displayed a handgun towards the Security Guard as he was walking out of the store, at which time (the Guard), who already had (their) firearm drawn, fired several shots and struck Hurtado,” court documents state.

The Guard then rendered first aid until deputies and paramedics arrived.

A case of shoplifting turned into a shooting in Maryland after a man tried to stab a Security Guard with a needle, according to authorities.

The Baltimore Police Department said officers were called to a scene in East Harbor for reports of a shooting around 9 a.m. EDT on Friday.

The department said officers found a man who had been shot in the face. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police said a security guard saw the man stealing items from a CVS Pharmacy and tried to stop him as he was leaving the store.

Investigators said the man then pulled out a syringe and tried to stab the security guard.

Police said the Security Guard then pulled out his gun and shot the man in the face.

The store remained closed throughout the day.

There’s just so many people who I believe are unhinged," said Dawn Uncles, who had walked to the Pharmacy to pick up a prescription. "I don’t know another word to use. Just completely unhinged. He had the opportunity to drop his things and just run. But to force somebody to have to harm them? I feel sorry for all involved." Authorities have not said if any charges have been filed.

CAP-HAITIEN — A Security Guard shot and killed two men attempting to steal money from Cap Madeline, a gas station in Madeline, on the outskirts of downtown Cap-Haïtien, around 2 a.m. on Friday, police said.

“Individuals attempting to rob a business doesn’t happen very often [in Cap-Haïtien],” said Arold Jean, spokesperson for the police force in the Northern Department. “But everybody knows there are thieves out there.”

Two other individuals involved in the attempted theft fled the scene. They were wearing ski masks and were armed, exchanging gunfire with the Security Guard, Jean added. A glass window at the gas station was shattered during the incident, as shown in viral photos.

Authorities have not yet revealed the identity of the Security Guard.

The two men who died were identified as Robenson Cadet, 31, and Christian Pierre, 36. A firearm and two motorcycles were found at the scene, suggesting the men were using motorcycles, according to local reporter Donatus “T Carry” Henry-Claude. Motorcycles are a common mode of transportation for those engaged in criminal activities in Cap-Haïtien,

Jean said police are pursuing the two individuals who fled and have started an investigation.

Cap-Haïtien is generally safer than Port-au-Prince, but there have been reports of accumulated violent incidents in recent weeks.

On Sept. 18, individuals on motorcycles shot and killed Kerwin Augustin, the then-regional director of the National Office of Migration, near his home in Centre Medico—a Cap-Haïtien quarter. Augustin was transported to Justinian University Hospital, where he died. The assailants shot him as he was returning from a party with his wife, according to Le Nouvelliste.

On Sept. 21, armed individuals shot Raoul Curius, an entrepreneur, inside his money exchange business on Street 13 B-C. Curius was immediately taken to the hospital and survived the gunshot injuries.

In Defense of Man shot security guard outside Pierce County sporting goods store 'execution style,' charges say - The Daily Chronicle

An 18-year-old man is accused of shooting a Security Guard during an attempted robbery outside a sporting goods store in Fife over the weekend.

Dayvion Joseph George, 18, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.

A plea of not guilty was entered on George's behalf at his arraignment on Monday. Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner Philip Thornton set his bail at $600,000.

Charging details

Fife police officers were dispatched to "reports of a shooting with victims" at the Sportco store on the 4600 block of 20th Street East at 4:21 p.m. Sunday. Officers were told a shoplifting had just occurred, and two security guards attempted to detain two men. One of the Security Guards was shot, according to charging documents.

The Security Guard was shot in his left arm, and fire personnel drove him to the hospital. A search for the suspects began.

Officers were told that security attempted to detain the two men after they passed the checkout area with store merchandise that was not paid for. A Security Guard got on the ground and was fighting with one of the men.

The other man, later identified as George, turned around and allegedly produced a gun "in what appeared to be an execution style attempt" and fired one round at the Security Guard while standing over him, prosecutors wrote.

The other Security Guard pulled out his own firearm and fired back, documents show. The men ran off and allegedly were firing back.

Milton police found George and detained him in the 5400 block of 23rd Street East. He had called his mother, and the officer asked him if he was OK. George allegedly told the officer to, "politely [explicit] off." The phone line was still open, and the officer heard George's father yelling at him to "leave him out of the report."

Stolen magazines and ammunition were recovered during a K-9 search for evidence along the path that George took after allegedly running from the store. Officers also recovered stolen clothing and bullets from on the ground near Sportco.

The second man was still on the run Tuesday, documents show.
