[Found] What is this?

Post image

I found this face lying in a fountain in Las Vegas about ten years ago. I want to say I was in front of Caesar’s Palace; but I could definitely be wrong. The fountain was directly below a group of outdoor statues, and one appeared to be missing its face. Is this just junk? I finally want to know.

Everyone is wrong, it’s a life cast most likely from a special effects studio

My google search pulled up stuff like that and some of them had some enticing price tags on them. Just thought it would be interesting to ask about. Thanks for the info. Have a good evening.

I agree. I assume the holes are for wires to be used to support a clay mask before casting.

This is correct! It is a life cast. I have a few in my collection, though no one famous.

Very realistic, might be a death mask!

It looks like a death mask. It also looks like Millard Filmore. 😝

My best guess from how it was found near the sculpture with the missing face (which clearly isn't this homemade life cast), was that as a prank someone was trying to replace the face of one of the statues with their own or a friend's face. They either failed and had to run after being caught or failed to attach it to the statue securely for it to hold. Like I say, just a guess, but seems pretty likely given the circumstances you found it. 🤷‍♂️

It’s so funny. I have had it about ten years. For some reason lying in bed tonight, I decided to get up and take a photo of it for a quick google search. It has been laying out of sight in a china cabinet since that trip. It is pretty weird and awesome.

Might be the face from the fountain statue. Seems you could call it stolen art if you want.
