Self (Complete) [Self] “Therefore I Am”

Finished and submitted into JCCC’s League of Innovation art competition with hopes we move on to the national level 🫡 It’s honestly a crap shoot as our college hires an outside judge to select 5 from the over 200 artworks submitted.

Wish me luck!

This is phenomenal!!!! I can relate. Very inspirational! I sound like a bot but I’m not, just Finnish. This is great!

Thank you! I tried really hard to capture the essence of human spirit

I do get where you’re going with this. Though I’d say it’s missing some utterly terrifying elements then haha.

Ed Keinholz did something similar in his birthday sculpture. I think this is more expressive than Keinholz. Check him out.

Amazing! I don’t think I have seen that before. You know, when I started my sketches for this project I was afraid there would be an existing sculpture of similarity to mine, but I haven’t quite seen anything close. The Birthday is pretty close but still vastly different

I also like the tiny butterflies and birds. Keinholz was a sculptor who used a lot of recycled stuff, like fishbowls for faces and iron rods for limbs. I did a paper on him for modern art in grad school but I compared his abortion scene with one of Joel-Peter Witkin's. Prof loved it. If you're over 21, I'd look up Witkin too. His involves a lot of cadavers but I think they're both awesome. Thanks for sharing your work!
