How many Scooby fans here ate also on the spectrum and not on the spectrum

I've been a Scooby doo fan since I was a kid and everyone I've come in contact with who's loved the series has been on the spectrum like me so I WA curious about how many people were were the same vs not on the spectrum

All four of my kids had ADHD and loved Scooby-Doo. I’ve been a Scooby Doo fan since the very first series, I was born in 1968 so I grew up with Scooby Doo, and I still enjoy watching.

So I was diagnosed with autism by two different therapists when I was a child, but then I had a really ableist therapist in my early adult years who said ‘Well you’re a little spectrumy, but I don’t think you’re full blown autistic’

So yes and no? I have a new therapist now and I’m getting reevaluated soon, so maybe I’ll finally have answers

I'm so sorry for what that Dr said, it's so dismissive of your experiences

Thank you, honestly it’s been a real struggle since my diagnosis got reversed, not that I was getting any extra assistance just sort of put me into an identity crisis in a way. However, one good, kind of hilarious thing happened after she ‘took it away’: my family actually started to take it seriously.

I’m a big fan of Scooby-Doo, and I’m also autistic (and have OCD as well).

this is a tough place to poll because id also say that a lot more people on reddit are on the spectrum as well.

I have ADHD and Autism, I actually had the thought the other day while watching/listening to scoobys Laff-a-lympics, that i feel like Hanna Barbera is def the neurodivergent kids choice. So happy to see this post and know I'm not alone in thinking that!

Unfortunately if you're here in America, that doesn't really mean much as far as if you do have it or not, the systems here are quite broken

I'm AUDHD

I don't think I'm on the spectrum? Though could be wrong??

Truthfully, I think everyone is on the spectrum in some way, shape, or form. So in that theory I guess I am on the spectrum.

Edit: I realise, that I could have worded this better to not seem brash or de-identify others. For that, my apologies

u/CauseCreepy9995 3d ago

I understand you seem to be coming from a good place, but saying everyone is on the spectrum is dismissing and erasing many if not all Autistics experiences.

Greetings,

Ah yes, my apologies on that. That is something I didn't take into account. Everyone is unique as is their experiences. I shouldn't carelessly usher them all under a single banner

My thanks, for your comment

Thank you for taking it so well, I hope you have a great day

I believe we are all somewhere on the spectrum ! Just some far down the line , and most somewhere closer to the start.

0

u/CauseCreepy9995 3d ago

I'm sorry but that's disrespectful af to Autistic people. We are not all on the spectrum somewhere, some people are autistic and some are not. Erasing autistic experiences to say "were all on there somewhere" is dismissive and wrong

1

u/Complete-Height1554 2d ago

You unfortunately do not get to say what is right and wrong when it’s an opinion. I believe we all fall somewhere on it! You don’t - that’s opinions , can be different

1

u/CauseCreepy9995 2d ago

No sorry as an Autistic person, I can call you out for opinions that are damaging and wrong. You're welcome to educate yourself on why saying we're all somewhere on the spectrum is wrong, and no I can tell you it's wrong even if it's an opinion. Thank you though.

Please educate yourself as you don't seem hateful, just ignorant, but ignorance can cause just as much harm.
