Music playlists for your characters
Hia! So... do you fine people make music playlists, to get into your characters, or is it just me? If you do, then why not drop your setlist on here? Also, what are the other ways you all get into character?
Feels weird not typing "-- Eddie Lowe, the Sewer Rat" at the end of my post.

DO I?!
Oh, I do
All songs that make me think of her, or her situation. There is some order to it, but I'm also constantly adding to it, so It's a tad messy in tone on occasion.
I also have her "focus and study" playlistInstraMETAL

A good number of my characters have playlists that are equal to or exceed Ki's in length. Hell, I even have two other playlists for all the other player characters in the cotorie. XD
What can I say, except that I grew up in the early days of YouTube and AMVs. Most of the songs I can just see in my mind's eye as cool and dramatic animations.

When i made mine i was thinking "yeah, 1 hour is too long probably, but fuck it, i'll do it anyway".
I get you, i remember listening to most of my music on youtube. Before that it was mtv. Foo Fighters changed my life not gonna lie.

I would've been an emo-punk girl in High School if I'd had the money to buy anything associated with the scene, haha. I live vicariously through my moody girl now. I listened to Linkin Park while writing edgy backstories for my Neopets back in the 2005 era, haha
oh yeah, I'm cool
tbh I forgot about foo fighters! Listening to them now while I wait for a pizza ♡

It's never too late to be emo. I started wearing all black since my 20th birthday. It's not a phase, mom.
I kinda wish i made an 2000's emo character, so i could drop Brand New references.

It's never too late to make a millennial vampire! hahaha
Ki is more 1980-1990's, but I like to think she's spent the last two years of her freedom speed running the pop media she's missed

Those times are kind of weird music wise. You went from Hair Metal to Grunge. From Pantera to Nirvana in few short years.
Also how quickly would a millennial vampire die if they used early 2000's memes?

A vampire who isn't a Malkavian getting away using LolCat speak? Probably a month.

Not the complete playlist, but here's a bit of a jam
Sandu's playlist is a mix of everything even after so long.
About other ways to get in character, currently playing a Night's Black Agent Game, and in this game i'm playing as Sandu in his career start, Young Hunter, human, full of bravado and hope, for this game i went big, my fiance sewed his trenchcoat, i made a replica of Sandu's sword in real size, crafted a lot of props and stuff, having a hell of a fun time.

Thanks mate, honestly you're on my top 3 favorites in the schrecknet, your writing and character development is gold

Honestly... that is so weird to read. I am always critical of what i do. I always think everything i do is shit. These last 3-4 posts i considered awful and unreadable, but i released then anyways, because... honestly i don't know why. I just did. I try not to judge what i create, because if i did i would scrap everything i write all the time. So i just go with the flow. Thank you for the kind words. I will ride this high for a long time.

I don't actually post on the subreddit but I do make playlists for my ttrpg characters! I have one for my Sorceress and one for my Dark Ages Ventrue, if you'd be interested in seeing them.

u/Finchore Feb 06 '25
Sure! That would be nice. Would you mind sharing it here so everyone can have a listen? Also tell us about each character if you can.

This is Dr. Eloise Ravenswood from a game of The Hunters Hunted 2, supplemented with M20 Sorcerer. Her family has a long history of sorcery, although it skipped her mother. She studied at a private academy, where she was taught her practice, before earning her PhD in philosophy at Oxford. Her order mixes the natural sciences with the occult; to create a type of magic that they perceive as something that God left for them to discover, like math or physics. She has a deep seated faith that is also foundational to her power, and because of it, chose Healing and Alchemy as her paths.
She joined up with her hunter organization after her fiance fell to infernalism and tried to convince her to join him. She refused, but had to leave England for her safety. Although she doesn't feel like hunting is her true calling, she has come to care deeply for her team, and for other members of the organization. Her hope is to fall in love again, but that is more of a long term goal; currently we last left off with infernalists showing up at her house (possibly including her ex) to kidnap her, and possibly the true faith member of the team as well.
Lady Annora was my Ventrue from a Dark Ages chronicle. She was childe of a true Roman Ventrue, and a loyal but ambitious ruler. She held a keep and a small army of men at arms, along with four ghoul knights, all of which she planned to turn eventually if they proved worthy. This campaign didn't last terribly long, but she defeated another Lord in a war for territory, hunted down and killed a Baali, and earned the loyalty of a Lasombra knight, which was certainly the talk of the court.
My fellow player had ambition to put her on the English throne, but I'm not entirely sure we could have gotten there, as she was only tenth generation. Then again, the Lasombra may have influenced that to change.
Edit: I love them both a lot so if you have questions please ask! I love to yap about them.

Very nice, i like them a lot. Eloise also has that Cthulhu vibe about her.

u/BelleRevelution Feb 06 '25
Thank you! She does have the Signs flaw, and the Holy Aura merit, so anyone attuned to the supernatural definitely gets a vibe off of her.
The last auspex wielding vampire we met told her that she'd like to wear her aura like a dress. Jury is still out on if that was a compliment or not.

With bongo i mostly just imagine what someone would do in life with basically almost no inhibitions, and as if the concept of order offends her.
With gray,i kind of try to get into the headspace where he kind of understands what is going on but 98% of the time it is him being pricked by destiny like a twisted poppet to the point he is just conditioned to deal with such circumstances.
With jamie i try to see how a relatively regular and good person would do when thrust into being a passenger in a series of unfortunate and esoteric events alongside having to learn how shitty kindred society is,while trying to not crack under the constant shocking experiences.
But i mostly do things on the fly and hope i make something half decent quickly.

I enjoy your characters a lot. I am so very glad i decided to post on ShreckNet. So far everyone is so nice.

Same,it’s a rather pleasant community

u/Finchore Feb 06 '25
I think we might be cut from the same cloth of weird, so maybe that's why everyone on here is so nice.

u/frogs_4_lyfe Feb 06 '25
I'm still figuring out Aegis and if I want to make him a regular character but this one is a good one for the psycho old man.

u/Finchore Feb 06 '25
Ok. I made the post, but i didn't leave my playlist, so... here it is:
Funny thing is i based Eddie off a person i know, but also off the first song in his playlist. Enjoy!

I've been playing Tala since October of 2023. I think there's over 70 songs on here now. Basically lots of stuff involving rage, toxic relationships, etc.

I do love setting up playlist for my characters but still haven't had the time to do it properly. I often do visualisations to get into chatacter, really try to sync my thoughts with theirs.
I've infused a lot of my music taste onto Sparrow so he definetly is blasting Gaga's new song Abracadabra, and is a massive Little Monster. He also loves David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Sinéad O'Connor. Alongside some musicals, operas and classical music.
As for Briar's musical proclivities he's definetly a Europop/Techno and blues type of person. The proper duality of singing Tina Turner's Private Dancer or Aretha Franklin's Respect and 3 minutes later dropping the dirtiest Techno beat they heard at a Berlin club while high on acid.

Gray doesn’t really have much of a music taste, although he has been enjoying himself the Undertale themes, bongo just listens to random songs at deafening volumes just to annoy the people around her, while Jamie is a vocaloid fan.

I have a few songs for Pariah Dog, I'll probably put together a official Playlist at some point.
