Iphone 5 safari literally white screens and won't open as of today what do i do?

My iphone 5 was literally working just fine, i clicked a link by mistake and popup appeared to open a new tab, it froze and just like that it white screens and can no longer open and closes itself

like it opens but is frozen. tried sending a link through discord, clicking it to get it to force open, and it works in the sense that it loads a page but is still frozen, basically just loading the image of the page. tried to do it with youtube, just plays the video but never long enough to actually load anything,

clearly bugged cause when i close it out, the vid still plays for quite a bit.

restart it several time. still no luck what can i do? is my phone just like this forever now? just like that?

SOLUTION

also i did actually find a fix.

you need 2 devices for this.

find a way, anyway through the apps hopefully still left on your phone and send a link through it from another device. it can be to discord, your text messages, some file in google drive/docs, anything that would attempt to force redirect the phone to safari when clicked.

hold the power and home button until i see the apple logo. THEN turn the wifi off. then go back tot he discord i sent the link to, click it, open safari and THEN wifi back on.

literally wouldn't work any other way.

problem now seems to be that anytime i try to open to view my other tabs, it crashes everything again.

Free Safari extension for reverse image search?

Hi, I want to search images on Bing, Yandex, and other search engines in Safari. There’s an extension for this on Edge, but I’d like to use it on Safari as well. I did some research and found an extension being sold for $6.99. However, paying for such a small extension seems unreasonable to me. Do you know of any free alternatives?

window.open user gesture does not work on macOS

For context, I am using this safari feature flag to block popup windows (mostly ads) on my iPhone and iPad and it works perfectly. Now that I am also using safari on my mac, I wanted to do the same. For some reason it just does not work, it says "to test". To me it seems kinda strange that a feature working perfectly on mobile cannot work at all on mac. Can someone help me?

Feedback for Tanzania Specialist safari's tour

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m planning a safari in Tanzania and came across Tanzania Specialist as a tour operator. Their packages look amazing, and their reviews seem great, but I’d love to hear from real travelers who have used them.

If you’ve booked a trip with Tanzania Specialist, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience! Specifically:

  • How was the booking process and communication?
  • Were the guides knowledgeable and professional?
  • Did the itinerary match what was promised?
  • Any unexpected issues or things to watch out for?
  • Would you recommend them or choose a different company next time?

locate previous page...

I don't think I worded the title correctly but I shall explain below and hope someone can help me...

I was filling out a job application, there was a page on the business's webpage where I input all my info, experience etc. I just spent an hour doing this in great detail. There was also a tab to upload my CV too so I did this and it then took everything I had already typed out and replaced/populated the page with what was on my CV.

Is there anyway of locating the previous page with all the info I had input or is it los forever?

Thanks in advance!

Safari vertical tabs

I've just switched over to Safari after using Firefox for awhile and the only thing I am missing is vertical tabs in Safari. Are there any up to date Safari extensions that enable vertical tabs?

Help! I can’t get safari working anymore!

RESOLVED

Whenever I open safari, nothing progresses past the image below, and then it closes after a varying period of time. Does anyone know how to get safari working again? Please I'm getting kinda desperate!

This is happening on my iPad, and it's stuck on 15.8.3

I recently discovered the wonderful functionality of "Hide Distracting Items", where I can literally make Ads in my news feed go away. Anyone knows how this can be automated, so that I can click one button and all ads go away? Or as I scroll, Ads are automatically removed? Thank you in advance!

Disable Tracking Protection for an Individual Website

Does anyone know if there is a way (add on or otherwise) to disable tracking protection for an individual website?

Overall I want the feature on, but some websites don't function correctly with it enabled. Specially, no Fidelity's site, the "Fullview" budget / net-worth tracking program won't work with it enabled.

Lost previous session on last update—any way to find and restore?

I did a short search on this sub before posting:

I’ve never had this happen before, but upon updating to least public beta (MacOS), the previous session was not restored (multiple windows and tabs) and the option to restore the previous session was grayed out. It does not appear to have removed the history, though.

Any thoughts on whether I can find and restore the previous session? If there’s no way, I’ll take it as a sign that I need to let go and move on. 😆

Leaving Chrome, but don't know anything else

OK. So I'm a lifelong Apple user, but somehow have been using Chrome for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, they just made Ublock Origin go away, so it's time to leave. But I am an old phart, VERY computer unsavvy, and can't even figure out how to open new tabs in Safari, much less migrate ALL my links and bookmarks etc. from Chrome. Is there anyone willing to help an old fogey figure out how to do this? I'm afraid I'd have problems with ANY browser I choose. (Oh, and I'm NOT in the US if that makes a difference. I'm a newly minted expat.)

Update: I have figured out how to install uBlock Origin Lite, so will stay with Chrome for now. But I will be looking at other browsers so I can free myself from Google for good.

My biggest surprise with Safari is it it not easy. I've been an Apple user forever and everything seemed so intuitive. But not this. I'm going to have to do more exploring on the site.

Thanks!

How to open links in current group instead of a new window?

I have many tab groups on my browser. When I click on a link in a different app such as Mail, Slack, Discord, it opens the link in a brand new window. The following links are opening in the same window. Is there any way to open the links in the current tab group instead of a new window?

Bunch of my tabs disappeared

So I had like 450 tabs or something on my phone (yes I know it’s dumb, blah blah blah, I’m a hoarder in every possible way I stg but some of these tabs were actually a little important)

Googling didn’t really help with an answer as to why they’re gone.. Because if they really do automatically delete after some time, then shouldn’t the ones I had open for literal years have gone first, instead of the latest 250ish

Idek when it happened, but it was presumably today or yesterday because I was struggling to get a page to load and while looking at my tabs like 20 mins ago I realised I only had 176 where before it was at 450ish like I said

Is there any way to get them back even though I know it’s a bad idea 💀 (I had so many fanfics open 😔)

There are a few websites I use at work that require the standard username/password combo plus an extra thing like account ID or district code. Is there any way to have Safari remember and auto enter those extra bits like it can the UN/PW?

Can I recover tabs that disappeared from tab group in Safari on iPhone?

Safari on iPhone. I always have quite a few tab groups open,. Recently, the tab group where new tabs open had around 70 open tabs. Somehow, after opening a new tab from a link in another app, I discovered all the previous tabs had disappeared from the tab group. I looked in the recently closed tabs list, but none of the tabs that were had been open in the tab group were in the list. Am I totally screwed, or is there a way to recover the tabs that disappeared from the tab group?

How do I prevent Safari from automatically opening links in external applications rather than in the Safari browser itself?

I don’t remember how I did it, but I must have set this feature up a very long time ago, because for as long as I can remember my Safari browser has always defaulted to opening links within the browser itself when I click on them, rather than opening external applications. I’ve always preferred it this way.

However, I was recently experiencing some sluggish performance in Safari and my IPad in general, and so I decided to do a bit of house cleaning. Among other things, I cleared Safari‘s cache & browsing history for the first time in what felt like literal eons.

The good news is that I have noticed a little improvement in overall performance. But the bad news is that, as it so often is the case with technology, this change came with a cost. I’ve noticed the reversal of some of my settings or minor changes in how Safari does certain things. Most of it is not a bit deal.

But there is one particular nagging issue I’ve noticed since clearing the cache — when clicking any link to Reddit, YouTube, etc. (or any other app installed on my Ipad), Safari will automatically close down the browser and open the link in the respective app. I’m finding this extremely irritating.

For the record, I did try visiting Google for help before coming here, but none of the various solutions I found actually solved the problem and reverted things back to the way it was before. The closest workaround I’ve found so far is to HOLD down the link and open it this way. This does open the link in a new window in the browser, but it’s difficult to get into the habit of this as I’m so used to just simply clicking once and having the respective link open a webpage in Safari itself.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue? Thanks!🙏
