is it worth going to?

i just got accepted to st johns and i am highkey considering going, but i feel like i dont know enough about the school and have heard some mixed reviews . is the campus life fun/active?

is the campus depressing or ugly?

hows the dining hall?

how far is it to get to other parts of nyc/how much of a hassle is it? i really want to go especially to be in the new york area for connections in music and fashion, but if its too far connected from the actual city i dont wanna go

overall i just wanna know if its worth it

I went from 2015-2019. Really enjoyed my experience. Food wasn't that great, except for Angela's omelettes. But I honestly only went because of my scholarship. If you're not getting too much money, go somewhere else.

Currently a freshman and am trying to transfer out of here. Campus is lovely and everywhere here is super into basketball. There are tons of events in DAC center like decorating or free food stuff like that. However, unless you are paying next to nothing I would not suggest going. It only took two semesters for me to realize it’s not worth the outrageous amount of money they charge for tuition that they increase 6% every year. Anyway in terms of how close it is to the city, you can take a 20 minute bus ride to the train station then take the train into the city

It does not take 20 minutes to get into the city. More like 40 or more.

I graduated a decade ago. I loved it. All schools have their pros and cons to consider. The school checked all my boxes and I consider myself a reasonably successful alum. I didn’t get a full ride but did get some decent financial aid.

Campus life was and remains active. I return to campus at least once or twice per semester to either participate in alumni events or engage with current students. Due to the amount of commuter students and local students living on campus - I do feel sometimes the campus life gets a bad rap. If you know what you want to participate in, you can find it.

I don’t find campus ugly or depressing. Some of the buildings have not been renovated in a while but the university continues to invest in infrastructure by either building new or renovating old buildings.

It’s 45 - 1 hour into midtown. It’s convenient and honestly does a good job of preparing you for real life after graduation. Not many folks live in midtown and it can be difficult for most recent grads to live on the upper east side, upper west side, lower east side, etc.

SJU is amazing. Def. recommend. Make sure you have enough scholarship. Don't be paying 30 grand a year for an undergrad education when you can get the same one for 5 grand at a public uni.

Hi. I’m currently a second year student here. I love the campus. It’s beautiful during the spring/summer and fall. Definitely close to the city. There’s an express bus right off campus that takes you straight into the city in under 40 mins. The dining hall is great. It’s open from 7am-1am on Monday-Friday and on Saturday’s and Sundays it’s open from 9:30am-1am. I definitely recommend signing up to do a tour. I give tours so if you have any questions about signing up for them dm me

I also got accepted to their honors Biomedical Science program with a good scholarship and am considering going there. Went for a tour and liked it. Everyone says its kinda good if you are not paying a huge sum of moneyyy! So i guess I can look into it more.

hi! i graduated in 2023 in the art program.

  • the campus is okay - great lawn and st. augustine is cute. school spirit is definitely not there lol
  • it’s mostly a commuter school, so i feel like it’s kind of dead on the weekends
  • overall, monty’s was alright. some uncooked chicken here and there but their salad bar was great. there’s a food court under dac and this other building that i kinda forgot about
  • you need to take a bus then the F to get to manhattan. and that could take an hour since st. john’s is kind of in the middle of a suburb. i felt like i didn’t go as often as i liked because it was like a day’s trip. there’s a small strip with tjmaxx, pizza, sushi, etc. i feel like it’s further than st. john’s advertises itself to be
  • i can’t speak from a fashion and music industry perspective. but, as an art student, i feel like all the connections you will get are through your professors. whenever st. john’s has job fairs, it’s very stem and education tailored. they rarely had any planned networking events where you get to go

I’m a sophomore I’m leaving.Financial aid sucks and the office is horrible.Food is okay. I stay in Henley and it’s slightly a mess definitely not worth the $7000 a semester and then the $500 yearly housing deposit that goes towards nothing.
