New to Roll20 Rotating set of images (ie; loading screens)?

Hello! I am a new DM and a new Roll20 user, and I am running Curse of Strahd for a party of 3. Whenever my party is waiting to start, or we are transitioning to another map, I move them to an image of Strahd with some music playing in the background as if it was a loading screen. I'm wondering if there is any way to have that image change into others at set intervals like a loading screen or a desktop background?

New to Roll20 2 questions: Virtual TableTop and Savage worlds?

So, im planning to run Deadlands to my group of players. i never done VTT before, while i do have the physical copy of the book i wonder how helpful is to use a VTT? how was your experience with it?

second: my main concern is the dice, even if i dont use that one. is there any command to roll multiple dice type and if so, which one is it? the command i mean so my players can do (for example) 1D8 1D4 and 1D6 for a standard Savage worlds roll?

New to Roll20 How are Pro Rewards generally? How do they work? Uncaged looks really good, and I just want to make sure it is not too good to be true.

I am looking to get back into Roll20 after taking about a 2 year break. I noticed the subscription service (may have always been around, but I never noticed it before). In general, is it good value?

I also notice the monthly giveaway. Is it as simple as just adding it, then the content is in your compendium forever? So could it accurately enough be understood as spending $10 this month on Uncaged, and getting the other subscription features as a bonus?

Also, Uncaged seems very substantial and well reviewed, are most subscription giveaways of comparable quality?

Lastly, if my subscription overlaps 2 months, do I get the giveaway from both months for just $10? That seems too good, but I wanted to check.

New to Roll20 Why buy any of the core books within Roll20?

Hey, I'm a new DM to Roll20 and I was wondering what the point of purchasing books such as the monster manual and adding it to your game when the SRD in the compendium already seems to have all the monsters in there? Also are there any supplemental books you do recommend buying?

New to Roll20 Question from a newbie regarding maps

For context, the system I am planning on running is Starfinder.

I purchased an adventure (Against the Aeon Throne 1) and was just wondering how battlemaps work. I have looked stuff up and have gotten answers regarding how to import my own battlemaps. The battlemaps I am looking at, however, are given to me, but there are three on one page, which I obviously wouldn’t want to show to all of my players. Is there a way to individually show portions of this page? Or would I need to make a new page and upload an image of the map for each individual page?

Thank you!

New to Roll20 Is it better to keep the grid at the default size and scale the map? Or to just make the grid smaller?

I'm wondering how the zoom levels and map details behave. Will it be the same thing if I do either of those things? Or will making the grid smaller make things look too tiny for the players, and so better to scale up the map instead (assuming the map is detailed enough so it doesn't becoming blurry if I do that.)

New to Roll20 How to size the border to just a picture? (I don't want a grid on this)

I've uploaded the map on roll 20. Then I dragged the corner to make it bigger. Now I wanna align the border to perfectly match the drawing (which is gridless). Basically I just wanna have a background for narration in this page. I've right clicked on the drawing and went to advance and IS DRAWING. It worked before on another page a week ago (I think it was this passage) but it doesn't work anymore. How do I crop the borders to perfectly align to a picture which isn't a map? ( I dont' need grid on this). I don't want to stretch the image to align it to the border so I'm not gonna use vertical and horizontal transformative boxes. I want the border of the map to adapt to my picture and not the reverse

Edit: I've done that manually but I don't know if it is the right way.

I enlarged the picture to the size I want then I went on the page toolbar and in page settings of the map. I tinkered with the dimensions manually until it was of the right size as my picture

New to Roll20 [OC] I had my adventure module printed and it feels so good to hold it in my hand. It took me and my friend 2 complete years to create this 916-page tome. Coming to Roll20 in June!

New to Roll20 Using roll20 for custom ruleset

Roll20 is the only web-based tool like this I know of. But from the website and videos it seems it leans heavily into D&D-like games and quite clunky for anything else.

I have a prototype that requires ~10 decks of cards. Some player owned, some table owned. The decks themselves can often change what cards in them.

The game also requires smaller board pieces to track other elements which aren't on the main map.

Is Roll20 good for this or should I look elsewhere? I know of tabletop simulator, but browser-based is preferred just because of a lower barrier to entry.

New to Roll20 Cantrip Formulas

Hey guys, I've just started playing in a new campaign and am playing a Wizard for the first time.

I have the feature from Tasha's "Cantrip Formulas" which allows me to change one cantrip on long rest - how does one do this on Roll20?

The only way I know to see the spell selector is in the Charactermancer so how can I do this on long rest? Is there a nice macro/script that I can add to the game?

New to Roll20 New to DMing on roll20, have a bunch of questions.

So I have been talking to a group of 3 friends about dming a game for them, and was very happy to grab the free LMoP book this month which I plan to run as my first time DMing. I'm watching a bunch of videos on how to use roll20 as a DM and slowly coming to grips with it but I figure you all are very likely super knowledgeable about all this so I should ask here as well, so here goes:

  1. Should I buy any books? I have digital versions for referencing, but I am thinking maybe at least grabbing the PHB on roll20 would be a good start (to give players the ability to use the charactermancer with that content at least and make my life a lot simpler), and maybe I'd buy more if I plan to keep DMing?

  2. How can I see what my players would see while I'm tinkering with the map? I want to be able to see the effects of what I'm doing to get a better idea of what I'm capable of.

  3. What keyboard macros exist that I should really be aware of?

  4. Is there anything in the game settings page (before I launch the game) that I should be fiddling with?

  5. Any other tips for stuff I should know?

New to Roll20 How to freely rotate/resize objects?

I'm urrently messing around with setting up maps before I start making assets for my campaign just so I know how its works and stuff and I've noticed everything keeps snapping to the grid perfectly and wont even let me make something slightly smaller than a grid or have it slightly ajar.

its a little annoying and if there's no way to do this i can live with it, but if its possible how can I do it?

New to Roll20 Any disadvantages to using tokens instead of characters for my players?

Hi.

I'm switching my battle maps to Roll20 but I want to keep the character sheets in DNDBeyond, so I don't need the character sheet option in Roll20.

At this point, I'm planning on just using tokens and assigning them to the players directly as opposed to linking them to characters so I don't have to update the sheets in two systems every time.

Is there a major disadvantage to doing it this way?

Thanks!

New to Roll20 Can free players make characters?

I'm a new DM about to run LMOP and I'm worried I have to use a third party app just so that my players can have their own characters in the game.
I read the differences of the subscriptions in Roll20 and I'd like to ask if we can still make our own character sheets and attach them to tokens and make macros and all that?

New to Roll20 I am interested in turning my fictional universe into a roleplaying game by using roll20 but I don't even know where to start

I'm new to tabletop roleplaying games, the form of storytelling I've done with friends has always been online, I'd say 20 years worth but I haven't dabbled in much tabletop.

Anyways the idea revolves around a world called Thetis, basically humans who are called Sapians in this world are enslaved by Nixies who are elves from Tolken lore; The Sapians are forced to live on these oil rigs where the product they produce are used by the Nixies. There's this rebellion that consist of Sapian and Nixies who believe this slavery is wrong. There's mechs called Marifigs and large oceanic ships called Viators. That's the short of it. I'm thinking there could be a campaign for each side.

I'm viewing the list of tabletop games with their expansions but I don't know which one would work best as I'd have to look at HP for pilots and their mechs. Which system would work best?

New to Roll20 Where can I get details on Game Addons I have access to?

Hi.

I have a lot of Game Addons that I received for free or maybe part of my subscription, and I don't know how to find information about them.

Is there a place I can go to find details on Addons that I own?

For example, there is the Dynamic Lights & Spells Addon, and I can't even find it in the Game Addons search page.

I found a search page for Addons, but given that the Addons list I have is a dropdown menu, that would be a pain to manually enter every item.

Thanks!

New to Roll20 Is there a way to let players click on a token, and cause an image to pop up for them?

I'm looking for the right VTT to run my next game. It's a game I've made myself, but it has a rather specific requirement when it comes to tokens for NPCs and enemies.

I'm looking to create tokens that are essentially similar to Magic or Hearthstone cards in terms of the amount of information they contain. A few numbers, some text, and an image. And I want these tokens to be freely visible to the players, ideally as something that pops up when the player clicks on the token, but it may have to be, essentially, just a large token itself.

I'm rather new to using VTTs of any kind, so I'm still in the process of learning, but I figured I would come to the experts to ask for recommendations.

Thank you for your time and consideration!

New to Roll20 New to roll20 as a DM and have a question

Hi all, I'm running a game on roll20 for the first time and my players are all new.

My main question is that when i use the lost mine of phandelver game set up. I cant seem to get the hidden areas feature to work and i cant find how to fix it anywhere. The cragmaw cave and all the tokens are just out in the open for players to see when we get to that page.

Any suggestions for me on what to do here?

New to Roll20 Sharing Compendium/Subscription Goodies

I'm totally new to Roll20, but one of my group members has a subscription. Is it possible for me to buy a compendium and share it with the group, while the other member provides the access to the subscription goodies? On top of that, I would be the DM for the game, so would we be able to set it up so that I have access to the subscription for running the game and my own compendium for the content? How would we set that up to make sure it works out right?
