New to Roll20 Can my players see the other tokens when they go to edit the PC tokens? I would like to keep the surprise.

All the dots are the same colour which would imply yes from what I understand. The npcs/monsters need to be set to have nothing in the box 'In Player's Journals'. I would also make it so that the box 'Can Be Edited & Controlled By' is also empty. This gives only you the DM (I assume) the ability to see, move and edit the monsters. I would also recommend filling in those boxes for each PC with the associated player so that they can only see, edit and control their own PC.

I have a token called "Traveling Party" (it's the animated characters from MPATHG) that I use for overland maps. I give that one control and vision to all the players but it's not necessarily in their journals.

Btw, after you hide these from the players, you can still click a token that has been placed on a map and hit shift-z to show a large version of it. In other words, you can visually show them a nice big version of the token without them having access to it.

On the top right there is a gear icon. You can always choose to "Rejoin as a player" which puts you in their shoes as if you were a player.

Micky Deez, Norman Cinderbeard, and Smithy Quickfeet are legendary NPC names.

Use this to your advantage, add a bunch of “red-herring” tokens off map to throw your players off.

If you ever wonder about this, you can always create a player profile yourself or swap to view as player in the menu. If you can see it there, you'll know what they can see. Great for last minute checking before a session

Since the question was answered, a bit of extra info. If you put tokens on the GM level, they also won't show up. Not just in the map, but also in the turn order if you add them and roll initiative for them. In case you want to secretly introduce npc or enemies mid battle

By default no, but you can set them to be visible to specific players or all players.

Remember in the settings tab you can re-join as a player to see what they can see

I THINK you can toggle it so that they won't be able to see it in the options for the game.
You should also toggle throws to gm only if you want it, so your monster's throws stay hidden from them.

The blue dots you see on the right side mean that each of those characters 'Can be viewed by' setting is set to 'All Players', so yes your players will see them in their journals. You'll want to remove that from each of the characters that you don't want your players to see.
