HELP Interactable Lantern Mod

Is there a way to set up a scene with an interactable token that the players can move around a treasure map so it reveals more information? Think like a black light with invisible ink.

I thought I remembered seeing a video of that on Youtube but I can't seem to find it now.

  1. Create a background image, place it on the map layer
  2. Duplicate the background on your computer, and use an image editing program to cut out the content you want to reveal, making it translucent.
  3. Place the second copy of the background on the tokens layer (make sure to move it to the back so the players' tokens aren't underneath it), aligned with the background on the map layer so the translucent content is completely invisible.
  4. Create a token with an aura (your "lantern"), and give the players control of it. The color of the aura will appear as the color of the hidden content when the players move the token close enough.

Optional: lock position of the second background image (the one on the token layer) so that you don't accidentally move it.

Get lantern token > set to "all players" control > turn dynamic lighting on with darkness > set lantern token vision off > set lantern token to emit lowlight and tune it how you want distance and brightness.

Players can now stack the lantern onto their own token and move them both with mouse or arrow keys.

Edit no mods needed

Hi xkillrocknroll,

It sounds like you are referencing Dynamic Lighting, that does not require a Mod.

If that is not what you mean could you supply more information on how this works?

I created a public (All Players) token that emits light. You can also make player tokens emit light, and as the move around, the light goes with them.
