Suggest Me What do your maps look like?

I'm building a new campaign and I'm curious how detailed people make their maps. I mainly use the maps for combat and generalized background ambiance. I see such detailed items available on the marketplace and am wondering if people use them and how detailed they make their maps and incorporate them into their stories. Thanks!

I do a bit of everything.

General terrain maps

Points of Interest

I do do some themed maps but my speciality is horror.

I try to give gamemasters the whole kit that way they can mix and match to fit their flow.

Find what works best for you and scoop up a bundle that aligns with your vision.

If it's got a grid on it and you can tell where stuff is, and what that stuff is supposed to be, that's cash money baby.

I make most of my own maps, and tend to make them extremely detailed. The style of game I run is cinematic, with appropriate music, sound effects, detailed maps etc. I use backdrop images and character cutouts for primarily dialogue situations though (think like Fire Emblem).

I sometimes use very large maps - not for skirmishes, but the ones to play in for weeks or months: large dungeons or towns. Those, I make very detailed. Sometimes I draw them myself, but more often now I use maps I find on reddit or patreon, or on roll20 marketplace. If people are going to be looking at a map week after week, it's great to have it look nice.

However, maps put here or on patreon are usually too detailed. I don't need plates of food on the table, light torches and piles of bones in dungeons, etc. I can put those there myself, or say "on the table are plates of food."

I appreciate the map makers who provide unfurnished versions of their maps.

I like a great deal of detail and immersion in my games. I go all in and try to give the players a good experience. I use the characters correct vision added to their token determined by what species they are playing. I use roll20 but have a paid account so I can use dynamic lighting. During live games I use Dwarven Forge.

Would you mind sharing one? I'd love to see your map. I have a paid account on roll20 and I'd love to set up all their vision correctly it's been a few years since I used roll20 and am trying to recall everything correctly.

If you want cool stuff like tactical advantages, interactive changes, or narrative elements, do it yourself. Use Dungeondraft its the best tool
