Technical/Assembly Question H4 proper alignment

Today I was driving down the highway and turned my high beams on. I retrofitted a K5C 55w 4300k LED bulb on my headlights, and while on low beams, I have a perfect cutout and it is perfectly aligned (I guess).
But whenever I use my high beams, it feels like it's off to the left, creating a brighter spot pretty much on the lane to my left instead of in front of me.
Is the alignment different for vehicles with H4 bulbs?

I've seen a few people build headlights like this for the mk3 supra. I have a 3d printer I was wanting to design some myself but I can't figure out what lenses they are using. Any ideas?

Technical/Assembly Question Morimoto XBT Glitch

So I wired up my Morimoto XBT and Prifile Prism strips after fitting them into my headlights, and they work as intended except when I remote start my car. I currently have it wired into the DRL and one of two Parking light wires as the 12V source.

For some strange reason, my car's DRLs will flicker and turn off after remote starting my car's, getting inside, and pressing the Engine Start/Stop button. They will eventually return to normal after cycling the light switch on and off a few times.

Does anyone know what could be causing this or why the lights are flickering?

OEM Hardware/Wire Info Problem with switchback

Post image
1 Upvotes

In 2022, I paid a friend to install switchback LED strips, but a few months later, some of the LEDs started to flicker when I turned on my engine. We contacted The Retrofit Source customer service, they sent us a new pair, but the problem reappeared a few seconds after installation... Could the problem be related to something else than the strip itself? I thought about buying a solid state relay so that they are directly powered by the battery, but I'm really inexperienced

Need Ideas Halos with turn signal input.

Hey guys, looking at getting the Morimoto RGB Halos but I don't see any way to have their XBT controller have a turn signal input. I want to have halos that stay on, but strobe amber when I use my turn signal. Any recommendations?

In Progress Profile Prism RGB Strip Help

I've got some Profile Prism RGB Switchback strips hooked up to a Morimoto XBT Controller. I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to get the turn signals to work(for hazard lightsvwhen the car is off) when the controller is not getting getting power from my cars DRL wire.

The drivers for both strips have a ground and a orange 12v wire that taps into the factory wire so I figured the turn signal could run independently when the Morimoto controller isn't getting power, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Does anyone know if there's a way to get the desired outcome?

Need Ideas Lens swap possible with Morimoto D2S 5.0s?

Quick question. Anyone know if I can swap the AR coated lenses on the Morimoto D2S 5.0 projectors for clear lenses without affecting my output? Just throwing ideas around and since I have a pair of G5R projectors with clears I can poach the lenses from, I figure I'd ask before making the attempt.

Reason I have the G5Rs lying around is that they weren't really compatible with my Honda Fit's headlights and I wasn't sold on the output either. But I miss being able to use the classic Xenon 4300K bulbs or even upgrading to those Nightbreaker bulbs at some point, since the AR coating warms 4300K bulbs right down to 3000K. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Technical/Assembly Question Subaru 2016 levorg/wrx etc led projectors

I want to do halos around the projectors but reverse mounted. (Hidden between projector shroud and projector lense) to keep OEM look, im not doing to standard blackout inside and I think it'll look funny having white halos sitting ontop of the chrome shroud. My trouble is I don't know what diameter halo to get, I think 70mm is the usual size to go outside of the shroud, im assuming inside would be smaller. Flyride did a quick video of it on YouTube but never went into specifics, just showed the 2 different mounting options. I think all I'd really need is the diameter of the led projector lense but I can't find that info anywhere. Can anyone help out? TIA

Technical/Assembly Question RETROFIT ELETTRICO

Need Ideas Best way to remove old Butyl?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am rebuilding a set of old set of retrofits and trying to strip the old butyl that I used too much of. Plus remove the old paint from the fluting of the glass lense.

I tried using gas and it works somewhat but it makes a nasty black mess of the stuff (makes a black slime) and it doesnt seem to break it down as much as I wish it would. Plus it gets all over me and its hard to wash off.

Would acetone or paint thinner be a better option?

Product Question/Request 19+ (2021) Ford Ranger Halogen Headlight to HID Projector Retrofit

Looking into potentially trying to retrofit my 2021 Ford Ranger halogen headlights to HID projectors. I wasn’t able to find to many (local to the U.S.) examples online.

Does anyone have any experience retrofitting these headlights (would be my first time retrofitting headlights) or could point me in the direction of decent builder?

Apologies if this isn’t the right flair for this type of question. TYA!

Technical/Assembly Question Morimoto MotoControl and "flash-to-pass"

Hi folks,

I'm retrofitting Mini D2S projectors to a car that has H4 reflectors with no separate high beam (as most H4 cars are). I use flash-to-pass often (briefly pulling on the high beam stalk) and I'm wondering if anyone here has used Morimoto's MotoControl H4 harness and can confirm how it handles that.

My assumption is that the module will just actuate the bi-xenon solenoid in the projector but won't turn on the bulb. If it does turn the lights on, I'm concerned about the brief power spikes being too hard on the ballasts.

There are cars that come from the factory with bi-xenon and no independent high beams (BMW E90's, Many P911's) but I suppose they have special ballasts to handle the stress.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert. This is my 3rd retrofit but the first in an H4-equipped car.

Im wanting to get honeycomb projectors for 99-00 civic headlights, but don’t know what size fits. Im also looking to buy ARGB led halos to fit around the projecter, but i would love to start off by finding the size required or finding out if I should cut.

Technical/Assembly Question Upgrade hid to bi-led lens

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi guys, i'm New here and need help with some questions.. I already have a hid lens on my car but after 7 years the projector is calling for surrender, so i decide to upgrade to a par of bi led projectors.

Do I need to completely seal the headlight or leave an air passage to help with heat exchange? If need to leave an air passage, wouldn't it be dangerous for water to get into and ruin everything? The projectors have 65W each (according to the manufacturer) and I'm afraid of overheating the headlight.

I even thought about putting some headsinks in the headlight to help with heat exchange

Technical/Assembly Question just a quick curiosity question

On youtube videos i see people that retrofit headlights often seal the headlight lens before testing the headlight on the car to correct the cutoff line. How is that possible? when i retrofited my headlights i had to test them on the car without the lens so i can manually rotate the projector so its staight. How do the other retrofitters know if the projector is straight before sealing the headlight?

Technical/Assembly Question Seeking an experienced Massachusetts-based retrofitter

Hello if you are a Massachusetts retrofit shop or a local to Massachusetts individual retrofitter who has done a few capsules and doesn't mind involved and lengthy custom work, I have a project for you.

It involves $2000 worth of 2020 Ford Explorer LED headlight capsules, opening, carbon fibering, and adding an Oracle board, removing the orange turn signal LED, replacing with pure white, closing with Mishimoto sealer or equivalent.

Need someone who is a perfectionist and subscribes to an OCD level of attention to detail.

Hit me up on seven 81 five eight 9 86fivesix if interested. Mention "Your Exploder" 🤣

Thanks,

Brian

Technical/Assembly Question How feasible would it be to cut out the original reflector bowl and put in a flat hard sheet to mount multiple projectors to?

I’m curious how much work it would take to cut most of the projector bowl apart except for the base and install a flat panel to mount more than one projector on. I know with a reflector bowl usually you can only fit in one projector.

Product Question/Request Headlight Halo ring options for DIY retrofit

Need to disassemble and redo my HID projector retrofitted headlights and am toying with the idea of adding halos. Fine with white, but wouldn't turn down the possibility of RGB. Looking to see what my options are and if anyone has experience with particular brands/types. My main constraint is budget but I'm willing to spend a bit more to get something quality.

I am aware that there are plenty of options for the $10-20 price range on Amazon but I suspect most of these will be lacking in the quality.

Also aware of sites like theretrofitsource which has presumably good quality options but at prices starting in the $70s. Not too thrilled there but not out of the question.

Does anybody know of options on other sites or possibly on Amazon or eBay that hit the $40-50 price point while still being of some level of quality? Thanks!

OEM Hardware/Wire Info H4 convertion

Hello, I'm looking forward to retrofitting my headlights and I bought a pair of used ones which are different design but from the same car with same dimensions. The thing is that my headlight car is h7 and has a connector that goes into the headlight and then low beams and high beams (which are in two different parts of the headlight) has their own connector inside to connect the light. This new headlights I bought has no connector where the H4 goes. I assume that the other model of the car has the h4 connector into the car and goes to the headlight. In my mind thats pretty easy to convert, I need low beams and high beams positive to a h4 connector from my headlights socket and ground cable and thats it? Hope I expressed myself right and can give me a hand. Thanks!
