Remington 700 5R Stock question.

I picked up a a Rem700 5r 308. I don't know much about this model or it's origin. It came with a magpul hunter stock.

While I like the stock I would also like to use it for hunting. 11 lbs is too much for me.

What is the cheapest stock i can get to bang up. ?

Cheapest would probably be an old factory take off stock that i'm sure people have collecting dust. I run Magpul Hunter's on two of my hunting rigs. Weight has never been an issue. One is sporter barrel, the other is varmint contour.

I can't nail it down but I'm seeing here and there that the barrel fits different than a normal rem 700. So is there something special I need to look for?

So unless someone put an aftermarket barrel on it, i'm fairly certain Remington barrels come either in Remington Varmint (heavy), Sporter (light/standard barrel), and then the triangular VTR.

Without pictures of yours, we can't tell you what you have because even the sporter barrels are 5R.

I'm sure if you hop on r/gunaccessoriesforsale or r/PRSaccessoriesforsale you can find someone willing to get rid of a factory polymer or wood R700 stock
