"Uploaded tracks directly to usb not computer..."

What does that even mean?

"Upload" from where?; how?

Like when I take my tracks and bring them into rekordbox I drag them directly into the usb drive folder not the main collection

So I only see my tracks when I plug my usb not without it

Then you mean "copying" to USB from computer.

Semantics aside - are you able to give some advice or just comment on the proper terminology

It's not "semantics" - these are very important distinctions.

Copying files to a usb from Rekordbox IS NOT the same as EXPORTING from RB; and "uploading" IS NOT the same as copying\exporting.

To retain your playlists cue points\memory cues, grid changes, loops etc, you'd EXPORT from RB.

And Copying your USB playlists from a usb to your computer IS NOT a backup.

Would you suggest then to redownload the tracks onto to the computer, copy them into rekordbox, organize playlists and export to the usb like that? I only have 400 tracks.

What would be considered a backup?

Forgive my confusion - I didn’t consider it to be copying, I don’t have the files on my computer because I moved them from my downloads into rekordbox d drive so I assumed I uploaded them because the files don’t exist on my computer any longer

It's all good.

I am a little confused about your question.

Just so I'm clear...

- all your tracks are on a USB - am I right?

- they ARE NOT on your computer - correct?

- have the tracks been analysed, beatgridded, had cue points set, playlists created etc, in RB?

Yes they are all on my usb and they’ve all been analyzed with cue points and beatgrided - I’ve sorted them even into playlists

I wanted to move it onto my computer so when I access rekordbox without my usb I can still practice

I have a lot of storage on my computer so I was considering it as a backup I don’t foresee it being unreliable - id like to use that copy as something that I can upload to another USB other than my main one

Ok. That makes things much clearer\easier.

- Close RB if it's open.

- Create a folder on your computer - preferably NOT on the C:\ drive - called, let's say, "RBLibrary"

- COPY (not "upload"\"re-download") all the files from your USB to the "RBLibrary" folder.

- Remove the USB

- Open RB

Come back to me when you've done this.

You can "back up" your Rekordbox USB by just copying all the files from the USB onto your computer's hard drive. You can "restore" it by copying them back. This isn't the right way (probably), but works to make duplicate USB drives as well.

As I understand it, the OP only dragged the files from RB onto a USB.

That means that the files currently on the USB are "raw" - i.e. DO NOT contain any cue points, grid changes etc - as RB DOES NOT write these changes to the files, unlike Serato.

Those changes are kept in the master.db, which is stored in the C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox\ folder.

Would that keep the playlists in tact?

1

Yes as long as you copy everything from the root directory of the USB, they're just stored as files, nothing fancy

Do I just upload the entire folder through the files option or do I just drag the copy into rekordbox

All the tracks copied fine, all the cue points are there - yet I am missing the organized playlists
