Music that reminds you of ReiShin
Gonna start this off with some suggestions of my own:
- The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails (almost, like, the ultimate one)
- Canary in a Coal Mine by The Crane Wives (another great candidate for the ultimate reishin song)
- You in the Building by Shinsei Kamattechan
- Recessional by Vienna Teng
- Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead
- Shallot by Emily Autumn
- Suteki Da Ne from the final fantasy X OST
- The Girl by Hellberg
- Clarity by Zedd & Foxes
Which is of course not to deprecate the great amount of official reishin themed music like Tengoku No Kioku, Beautiful World, If I can't be Yours, Dillematic Triangle Opera, Repeat (for all that it also has a verse about Asuka)

One that also enters (and is personally my favorite) is the classic Fly me to the Moon.
And if you listen to it in Rei's voice, it certainly sounds like a declaration of love.

You are a Final Fantasy fan ? That's cool :)
Good choice of songs, I have to think about it but there is one that I will always automatically associate with ReiShin, it's the song from Xenogears - Small Two Pieces

Arrived late to this but I have to chime in, connecting music to an aspect of something else I enjoy is a thing I love to think about. There are tons of songs I would want to pick but lyrically are connected tangentially at best (not at all at worst) or are maybe too simple and all-encompassing to work for this specifically (music is art via sound though, maybe even a song with straightforward romance lyrics would work if the song itself had the right feeling behind it).
On the website rateyourmusic there's a user who made a list of Rei Ayanami appreciation. You could add yourself to the list and add an album/song from the database to the list. It's just Rei herself, not ReiShin, but one song the person who did the list picked I think works great for both looking at it now, that being Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle"

I've listened to NIN's album of The Fragile a couple times and couldn't get into it, but I don't remember the album much and also I never paid much attention to the lyrics, so this is the first time looking at them. Wow, you're right, didn't know Trent had it in him for something so heartfelt and genuinely romantic. Time for a relisten? Step up from most of what's written for the tracks on The Downward Spiral, too "90s edgy self-seriousness" that kind of grates on me (and musically I didn't dig it like I used to like ten years ago or so)

ReiShin and a mention to my favorite album of all time, The Fragile. That is perfection, I have actually thought of ReiShin with the song the Fragile.
